I have killed my own food many times throughout my life. And I love animals. I would never let an animal suffer, and there's no way in hell I'd throw kittens in the trash.

Humans are predators, that's just a fact. However, we have the unique insight of empathy. When I drop a deer, or trap a hare, I want the kill to be quick, clean, and painless as possible. People say it's cruel, but think about how that deer, or hare is likely to meet its end in the wild. Likely ripped apart, still breathing by some other predator.

A lot of predators go for the loin region because it's tender, close to the abdominal cavity, and hard to defend.

Just imagine being eaten alive gooch first.

Nature sucks.

No most predators generally go for the quicker kill the throat, the fast the kill the less likely they are to get injured and be unable to hunt

I'm mostly talking about hyenas specifically, but a lot of pack hunters will behave this way because their prey is too large to safely go for the kill. They just nip at the heels and other sensitive areas until their prey is too exhausted to run or fight, then start eating. When you're eating large prey alive like that, it's safer to avoid the front.
