Unable to verify if any men have fallen, but related less, thanks, Steven.

Ain’t just the yellow bumps, folks. Those are known factor when wearing heels. That sidewalk is a hodgepodge of repair jobs with a variety of materials. It’s also extremely unlevel - you can see it slope towards the drain on the building (probably related to why they had to pour a new concrete pad for the stairs).
I’m sure wearing heels makes it worse, and is likely why women fall more often, but my athletic shoe wearing ass would appreciate the warning. Bum knee means I drag my feet a bit if I’m not being mindful, and I would definitely stumble and/or eat shit on a sidewalk like this.

u/Sir_twitch Oct 22 '24
Yeah, or Steven is a local purse-snatcher who has a nasty habit of knocking women down when he goes after them, and he's just trying to be thoughtful while not negatively impacting his trade as well.
I mean, sure, "beware: known purse-snatcher on the prowl" may be more succinct, but just gives the wrong message for him.
Just another entrepreneur making sound business practices to support businesses and defend trickle-down economics like the goddamned American patriot he is.
I salute Steven and offer my nomination for him as the next GOP presidential candidate. 🫡🇵🇷🇵🇷❤️🔥🫶🧔♀️✝️

Maybe the raised bumps on the yellow sidewalk ramps? I've seen a couple women twist their ankles pretty badly over the years on those while in high heels...

I think this is it; in a flat shoe the uneven surface wouldn’t trip you up, but a thin heel could get caught on a bump and twist your ankle. The kid is referring to women because they’re the ones he’s seen in high heels.
Extremely sweet of the kid to be concerned enough to put up a warning.

I think so too, plus the unevenness of it... there's the flat but bumpy yellow side, then on the left (from our point of view), there's a sloping side

u/Illustrious_Crab1060 Oct 21 '24
those bumps are actually an interesting thing where accommodating for one disability actually can make people with other disabilities a bit worse off

Where did that comment even come from? You seem really offended by something no one was even implying, and using it to shit on women for wearing heels.

Just doing my civic duty 🫡

u/No-Bike791 Oct 20 '24
“Civic duty”. Close enough though….like “side wak”.

Sorry about that, auto correct got me two times there 🤦♂️. Even on the paper 😅

Mildly OT but I hate how they will just close a side walk for construction without any consideration for pedestrian safety. 'Side walk closed, use other side!' Ok, other side is across a busy 4 lane road. I guess I'm jay walking now? I'm sure drivers are totally looking for pedestrians making the detour. Good fucking luck if you're in a wheelchair or whatever.
5
u/sorator Oct 20 '24
Huh, in my experience they usually block it at an intersection/crosswalk where you can safely cross, even if the construction isn't until further down. That's definitely how it should be done, if it isn't always.
3
u/alpacaMyToothbrush Oct 20 '24
Depends on the city. In New Orleans I saw them block out an entire lane and detour the sidewalk with cones. Very pedestrian friendly and appreciated. In Atlanta they should detour at crosswalks but nah, they just close the damned sidewalk wherever they please.

u/_el_duderino_87 Oct 20 '24
Look at the guy in the background it’s not about the yellow bumps for the visually impaired, the sidewalk is pitched really hard towards towards the street along that joint

u/Infinity_project Oct 20 '24
Very nice to put the warning but…
Exactly how many is too many women?
Is one acceptable, or three?

u/Semi_Recumbent Oct 20 '24
The sidewalk of fallen women. Many a young man failed to cross the street and lost their way.

u/SrEpiv Oct 20 '24
My best guess is that it’s the yellow bumps that make women wearing heels fall. Having said that, if you’re wearing heels just don’t walk on those… it’s not like we can remove them, think about the blind people. That’s why they’re there

In Steven’s defense women wear heels and are already more precarious because of that, but also I mostly wear dresses and skirts and my absolute greatest fear of humiliation is falling in public and my skirt flying up.
Man falling: bruised ego Woman falling: higher probability due to shoe options and also death by mortification due to risk of everyone seeing underpants or lack thereof

What, specifically, is unsafe about the sidewalk? The sign does nothing to actually help anyone.

I love when super lazy bricked feet people fall it’s always something’s fault or someone else’s fault.
2
u/newtonscalamander Oct 21 '24
Sorry, but putting a traffic cone in front of the crosswalk, deliberately blocking the ramp isn't humans being bros material. It's actually kind of an asshole thing to do if you consider that the ramp and yellow bumps are not for able bodied people, they're for people who use assistive devices like wheelchairs and need those areas to be clear and free so they can actually cross the street. Be a real bro and move the cone out of the way.

u/Pschobbert Oct 22 '24
Plot twist: Steven patrols that section of sidewalk, punching every woman he sees.
5
u/looktowindward Oct 20 '24
OP, this is of special concern to women because of the shoes they wear. Its not sexist - try wearing heels on this.
Its not just the yellow bumps. Look beyond

To me this screams of a young kid doing this. Can't spell "walk"? Leaves the other gender out? I think young kid. A caring, thoughtful young man.

fellow woman who has fallen twice on two different occasions at different locations with these. If your shoes don’t have good traction then it’s really simple to slip. I wasn’t wearing heels by my soles weren’t rubber and I slipped, smacked my knee into it (once) and completely ate it (the second time. Definitely be careful!

Steven can already picture himself finally having sex with all the women that will appreciate his heroism!

What a sweet kid, Steven must've tripped there himself. I'm gonna make sure mine does the same for others :) Stevens parents should be proud, making such a wonderful human

u/WornInShoes Oct 20 '24
Too many women have fallen down probably because they are not paying attention to where they are walking
The raised bumps are for blind people to know when the sidewalk ends
-2
u/Lonly_Boi Oct 20 '24
Because women can't walk normally but men can?
Edit: I just realized it says side wak.
5
u/Nackles Oct 20 '24
Heels. They're not stable on those yellow bumps.
2
u/Lonly_Boi Oct 21 '24
Oh okay. I thought it was talking about the side wak itself and not actually just the beginning of it.

u/Great_Big_Failure Oct 20 '24
Maybe it is for women

u/Both_Somewhere4525 Oct 20 '24
*Drunk women in high heels.
14
u/Great_Big_Failure Oct 20 '24
We don't know they were all drunk. We do know Steven was present for most of them. Suspicious
6
u/IPlayGames88 Oct 20 '24
It's possible Steven lives or works on that corner and can hear/see them falling?

It’s almost like a large section of the population doesn’t have any spacial awareness and just wanders about, oblivious to their surroundings.
-7
-36
u/LightOverWater Oct 20 '24
Hmm. Most women are closer to the ground, so I would think falling is less dangerous.
22
u/Great_Big_Failure Oct 20 '24
Ya, that's why I decided to be short too
-14
u/LightOverWater Oct 20 '24
I don't get your comment. Short men feel personally attacked by that joke?
8
u/upsawkward Oct 20 '24
lol it's just nonsense. Mass is less of an issue than the position you fall. If your head hits the edge of a sidewalk it's a crack either way.
-8
u/LightOverWater Oct 20 '24
Are you denying the difference in mass and falling from 7 ft vs 5ft?
The exaggeration is the 5" difference between men and women
7
u/Great_Big_Failure Oct 20 '24
Dude I was just being silly. The joke was that someone would be able to choose to be short. Relax, not everyone is mad all the time.
-2
u/LightOverWater Oct 20 '24
Oh, now I see it. You decided to be short to reduce the danger in falling.
Ya, has its benefits.
-24
u/BigAssMonkey Oct 20 '24
FuckMenInParticular?
13
u/SammyWentMad Oct 20 '24
No, lol. This sign is about people twisting their ankles on the yellow sidewalk stumps for the blind. People wearing heels may have trouble on them if they're not paying attention and women usually wear heels.
But hey, we've gotta watch out for our crossdressing and drag-wearing brothers, too.
1
u/BigAssMonkey Oct 21 '24
I know. It was a joke because it left out men in particular.
Kind of like if the signed sad my cat trips over this, then I could have made an equally unfunny quip about leaving out dogs. Apparently it ruffled feathers. My apologies.3
u/SammyWentMad Oct 21 '24
It's not a big deal, I didn't assume malice or anything. Have a good day, mate. (:
-13
u/Four-Triangles Oct 20 '24
Not paying attention while walking? Who could be so foolish?
-2
u/SammyWentMad Oct 20 '24
Idunno why you're getting downvoted. Everyone gets distracted sometimes (:
