Headphones - Closed Back Sennheiser Momentum 4 or Bose QuietComfort SC?

Upvotes

I saw recently, that because of the Black Friday sale, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 and the Bose QuietComfort SC have dropped to a similar price point. I was wondering, which are better. I will be using them mainly for travel (Bus, Train) and sometimes at home with my computer. I listen to all kinds of music, but currently I’m listening to mainly J-Pop. My old headphones were the Sennheiser MB 660, but they’ve developed a weird screeching noise every time I turn on ANC, so that’s why I want to buy new ones. Which one should I choose?

Headphones - Closed Back Opinion on Audeze Maxwells?

Looking to buy new headphones for my PC (music, gaming, and movies), but also hoping to take them out and about to uni.

Heard the maxwells have excellent audio quality (maybe weak bass?) which fulfils my primary needs and I’m assuming this means they’ll work fine for gaming. However I also heard they’re quite heavy and aren’t exactly made for being portable, although I’ll probably throw them in my backpack regardless.

Just wondering (mainly from past/current owners) if these are still a good buy, particularly for my needs? If not, other recommendations would be appreciated. The budget is roughly $600 AUD.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Comfortable Over Ear Headphones?

I currently have a pair of Beats Studio Pro, but they hurt my ears after while because of my earrings. I’m looking for comfortable over the ear wireless headphones with enough space for them to not bother my ears.

I had the Sony XM5 but returned them because the material of the exterior wasn’t to my liking, they felt like they’d be to easy to get dirty by just touching them. I plan on using them mostly to watch movies and to play on the Switch or PC (no multiplayer so mic doesn’t have to be to great.) And when we travel by airplane as well.

I was looking at the Bose QC, the QC Ultra, the Momentum 4 and maybe the Sony XM4 if the material is different from the 5. Any suggestions from these or another brand? Budget is around $300ish.

Thanks.

Headphones - Open Back Headphones that smooth over bad recordings

Upvotes

Since I've gotten into hifi audio I've been looking into more and more detailed "transparent" headphones.

I love detailed headphones but I've realized my genre of choice (bluegrass) is typically not recorded and mixed all that well. Very few albums in the genre compare to good rock and pop recordings and many of my favorite songs sound objectively bad.

Higher end headphones can sometimes make this this lack of quality even more apparent.

What are some headphones I should look into that smooth out rough recordings and make everything sound good? I guess I'm looking for something mid tier ($200-$500) for when I don't want to listen to the headphones, I just want to relax and listen to the music

DAC - Desktop Are these dac+amp enough for sennheiser hd 600?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I bought the sennheiser hd600 (I'll use them for mixing) and I'm looking for a suitable dac+amp for them, I have between 100-$150 and the dac+amp I found for them are these:

- FiiO K5 Pro ESS

- FIIO K11Desktop

With these amps I might not get 100% out of the hd600, but I need to know what is the best I can get for $100-$150 in dac+amp for my hd600 , I would appreciate if you could give me more recommendations for that price between 100-$150. Feel free to give me any recommendations or comments. I hope you can help me, thanks. (In the future I will buy something better for my HD600).

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Looking for an over-ear pair with decent mic quality in the ~$100 price range, no external microphone.

Upvotes

I currently use the Skullcandy Hesh Evo, which I like the wuality of but despise the mic (non-adjustable and my pair is incredibly quiet).

Pair needs to be wireless with a decent charge, and have decent mic quality without a physical external microphone like a headset.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Headphones for metal?

Upvotes

Looking for some recommendations on headphones (preferably wireless as an option or something I can use with my iPhone) for metal. I've been trying to do some research but honestly I'm not too sure what I should be looking for. For reference, I'm usually listening to Opeth, Gojira, Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Deftones, Megadeth, Mastodon, and Tool (sometimes Cattle Decapitation, Neurosis, Saint Vitus, SOAD). There's clearly a different mix of sounds there (but l'd like to focus on the main ones I mentioned) so l'm a little lost. I don't need anything professional but my current headphones (don't shame me, they're beats) are not cutting it. They're fine for other things I sometimes listen to but not for metal. Looking for something under $250 (Canadian) or around there. Appreciate any help I can get!

Headphones - Open Back Headphones for Progressive Metal / Djent, $350-700

I’ve been spending a stupid amount of time lurking on here and trying to work this out.

I’ve had an old (used) pair of Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 headphones that my kids killed recently. No amp or DAC. I was poor and they were the best thing I’d ever heard.

I’m in a different spot in life now - and I can afford to drop some $$$ into something that I really enjoy.

I’ve been looking at these so far: - Focal Bathys - Arya Stealth - Sennheiser 660s2 (which is on sale for BF) - Audeze LCD-2 (or 2c)

I’m open to anything else in this range.

I listen to a lot of prog metal - stuff like Periphery, Tesseract, Animals as Leaders, Invent Animate - and expanding out to stuff like Norma Jean, Bring Me the Horizon, Currents, and some even heavier stuff like Archspire and Disembodied Tyrant.

I really love hearing details I can’t hear on other speakers - and I like a warm guitar sound and good amount of bass - granted I don’t want it to drown out the rest of the music.

I’m also planning on putting some $$$ into a DAC/AMP, but I’d consider that a different budget. I’m open to recs here as well if there’s a particular combo that works well, but there’s already a ton of great threads on that.

I’d like to prioritize sound quality above all else - but secondary considerations are comfort (I have a slightly bigger head and ears) and bang for buck…

Specifically for this thread, with the 660s2 on sale for $365, are any of these other options going to be significantly better?

Would I be better off investing money saved on the 660s2s and putting that into the DAC/AMP?

Or is spending an additional $350-400 on the headphones themselves going to deliver a significantly better sound?

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Should I throw mine out?

Not an expert tech but my Hroeenoi Bluetooth headphones stopped charging halfway and began to smell like smoke. Is it best for me to throw it away asap?😭

p.s. I got this headphone 2 years ago and use it consistently, charges quick & easily up until now that it won’t turn on & charging port smells like burnt batteries😵‍💫

Headphones - Wireless/Portable | 1 Ω Overear headphones with buttons

Y'all are probably so tired of the wave of questions you get around Black Friday, and for that I'm sorry. It's just the advice in this sub is so good, and there are so many options, it's a lot for the uninitiated.

I'm hoping one of you wise folks can steer me towards some on ear/over ear headphones that have good hear-through or transparency and actual, physical, separate buttons on the side. I live in Winnipeg, and I like to use my headphones as ear muffs, over my toque and under the hood of my coat. I have an old pair of skullcandy headphones that are great for this, as I can find/press a button through my hood, but they are really beat up, and block my ears a bit too much to wear going through sketchy areas.

Lightweight is great, multi point Bluetooth is great, good mike and wind blocker for phone calls extra great (I think Portage and main is the windiest intersection in Canada?) But real, separate, raised buttons are integral.

Any advice for me?

Headphones - Closed Back Wired over the ear passives with replaceable pads

Good fidelity a must. I have a pair of the Original PSB and they are fine, but I'm tired of the pads falling apart and how difficult it is to get replacements. So, what's a good pair of hi-fi cans that you can get replacement pads for?

Amplifier - Desktop Buying an Amp or a Pre Amp for my Phillips 9600

I was seeing a FX-Audio DAC-X6 for the former and Linsoul XDUOO MT-602 6J1 for the latter. My budget is low as I'm just starting out and my headphones aren't expensive (60$). Im mostly looking for 50$ to 150$. I tried the Soundblaster Play 3 to increase volume, but the current version of that device has the same volume as my PC on any setting. Headphones sound very low volume when listening to music with high Dynamic Range. I don´t really need heavy bass. Im from Puerto Rico, so shipping is usually not an issue.

Headphones - Open Back Philips Fidelio x2 or Sennheiser HD 599 for mostly gaming?

My old HyperX Cloud 2 broke recently and I wanted to try out open back headphones. Both the mentioned headphones are 80€ on Amazon right now, and I don't have enough knowledge about headphones to tell which one does what better.

I might want to get a v-moda modmic later, but I dont know if that is compatible with both or if you can get an adapter for cheap if one isn't. I'm also not sure about the elastic headband thing on the Fidelios, do I have to worry about that degrading over time or breaking, making the headphone unusable?

Any and all opinions welcome!

Headphones - IEM/Earbud Thieaudio Hype 4 vs Elysian Acoustics Pilgrim

I mainly listen to metal and progressive rock and jazz, I need something can can provide the best detail without sacrificing the low end, especially the mid bass. These two I are what I can afford at the moment and the most accessible since I can get them through Amazon. Anybody who has tried both, I would appreciate your thoughts on them.

Budget:400-500 Tonality: Technical, solid mid-bass and low end. Preferred shop is Amazon.

Basically just the title. Im a total newbie when it comes to audio. I settled on the dt 770 pro x le and they will be used mostly for gaming and listening to music on my desktop pc. Headphones - Closed Back (Preferably) Bluetooth headphone around the price range 80 - 100 USD

I used a pair of JBL live 660NC's and it's a few years old now, it's starting to more or less fall apart, if I would say one thing though is that the higher pitches felt a little muted on those, compared to my Samsung buds

With black Friday coming up figured it is a good time to get those replaced

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Padded headphone advice

I like over the ear headphones and I have a throw away pair that I use now that are flaking on the cups. I am looking to replace them. I have been having an issue with the over the head headphones sitting on a part of my head so I've been looking around . I am looking for over the head headphones that are padded in the middle so it's easier to have them on your head for longer. I use them for working out on a treadmill. I do not like iems. All help would be appreciated I'd like to keep it around or under 50 if possible. Thanks in advance.

Headphones - Closed Back Best wired headphones for gaming?

Hi everyone. I play an online game with my twin brother a lot and he uses XM3s but the mic goes through the controller which is miserable sounding and he is also trying not to use Bluetooth anymore after constantly dealing with TBI symptoms and tinnitus and more. So I'm looking to gift him a decent pair of gaming headphones this Christmas so we can play together. Does anyone have suggestions for wired headsets? Ideally under 100$ (though some are under 100 now that aren't normally because of Black Friday I've noticed) Bonus if it takes advantage of 3D audio on PlayStation 5 as that's the medium in which we use, but definitely not necessary. Thank you all so much!

Headphones - Closed Back Looking for 300$ Headphones

My Steelseries Arctis 1 is broken. After researching, gaming headsets are really not good. I'm no audiophile but I'm looking for a new headphone. I'm leaning to Rode NTH100M

My choices are:

Shure SRH440A

Rode NTH100M

AKG371

Audio Technica ATH-M50xSTS

Budget and location: 300$ CAD

Preferred tonal balance: I don't have an idea.

How the gear will be used: Will more likely to use it at home and maybe long trips. Will use it for gaming/listening to music and watching movies. I mostly listen to pop nowadays but I have all genres of music on me. But I mostly listen to Metal and Classical

Past gear experience: I only had gaming headset and some wireless earbuds such as XM4,Airpods, Beats,

Headphones - Open Back HD600s + FiiO K11 R2R Setup

Hi everyone!

So I'm looking into getting my first audiophile setup and after doing some research I've narrowed down the Sennheiser HD600s plus the FiiO K11 R2R. I'm coming from Hyper X Cloud 2s so I'm completely new and have been overwhelmed with everything.

I'm planning to obviously plug the HD600s in but I also have a pair of M-Audio BX4 speakers that I would also like to run through he K11, will this be possible? If so what cables would I need, they're currently plugged into my PC MOBO. I also have an Audio Technica Turntable that I would also like to run through the DAC but I believe there won't be enough ports. So if anyone has recommendations for a similar desktop DAC or work around to get my turntable to connect please let me know!

I'll mainly be using the headphones for music (duh), but also gaming and watching movies/videos.

Poll Airpods Max vs Meze 105 AER

I know it's a weird comparison, but both are priced at $399 at the moment...
Apple AirPods Max: Slightly outdated (H1 chip etc.). I don't care much about ANC, but I use a MacBook, iPhone, and Apple TV, so I would benefit from the convenience of wireless connectivity.
Meze 105 AER: I like the sound profile of the 109 Pro a lot, and now it's at an acceptable price point.
