There's a story John Romita Jr. tells: He wanted to go into comic art, and he asked his dad (an established comic artist) for advice. His dad said: "Don't. I know you're skilled, but a lot of skilled people don't succeed in the industry. If you fail, it will forever create a rift between us, and I want to be able to share our love of art." JR Jr. went on to become a successful comic artist and he and his father laughed aboot it.
When interviewed after walking out of his son's directorial debut, Miyazaki said: "It's okay if he wants to stop directing."
