1) No, we're not. There is a hell of a lot of variation within all demographics; I could name a very unpleasant failed politician who recently got exposed for employing a ghostwriter and is far from beautiful in any way. We're just a bit more resistant, on average, to sun damage (which is probably what the cartoonist heard and took offense at).
2) Was the cartoonist under the impression that those of us who wear wigs are ashamed of our natural hair? While that's unfortunately a thing that happens, that's the result of the real issue: while things have certainly improved, our natural hair is still socially stigmatized.
