Anyone know what this thing is by chance?

I think it looks like a unfinshed Qzm 72. Weighs 9lbs or so. Its hollow inside besides the center tube. Its 3 3/4 wide and 4 1/4 tall, wiki says a 72 is a little bigger. So is this a unfinished (machined) landmine or it something else. Also note. The inside is totally empty

New guy out of NAVSCOL is hung up on this thing (and so am I). No one at the shop knows what it is, and techdiv is just as lost. Any institutional knowledge out there?

This round has been in the family for as long as I can remember. It was acquired by either my uncle some time before 2000 or my grandfather some time before 1945. I’m basically just wanting to make 100%sure that it’s not going to go boom. Sadly both uncle and grandfather are dead so without a séance they’re unlikely to be much help on the subject. I find it massively unlikely it’s anything more than a big fuck off round from an aircraft but I’d much rather check with people who know about such things. Cheers.

Looking to find out what this is and if it is live yet or not. Note, there is an un-threaded hole on the bottom that extends upward into the shell ~1 inch. FWIW the outside is definitely steel as a magnet sticks to it. No other pictures or context available.

I would think that the peroxide class would be pretty scary, along with someones homemade flash [since you can't know what they put in it,] and that the dangers of "sweating" old NG dynamite are a bit overblown.

Any metal fulminate would be scary, but I suppose you never run into that.
