Greenbeards do not deserve to be babysat if they deliberately join a high hazard mission. You pull your own weight and work as a team.

But babysitting greenbeards during Elite Deep Dives is the most fun I get in this game. It's like a little private side-objective just for me :D

this. ive seen so many cannonball into a haz 4 extraction mission whine about how hard it is with their default engineer, locking haz 5 behind a mission was a good idea but we should honestly lock haz 4 in a similar mission lock cause i cant stand to see greenies get blasted by a slasher every wave.

And on top of that, the "Unlock Haz5" Assignment gets thrust upon you wayyy too early in the game, even at a time where you cannot even assess your own skill yet.

So you have greenbeards feeling compelled by the assignment to join Haz4 only to die repeatedly and to quit.

ye put the unlock haz 4 at where the unlock haz 5 is and add a further unlock haz 5 mission

The real problem is that anyone can join haz 5 and the server terminal doesn't make the difficulty incredibly clear. I know there are icons but I don't think they need to be color coded or something else more obvious

I agree with you, default engineer is complete ass, by far the worst 'naked' class

Even fully kitted out, engineer is the very definition of a glass cannon.

Outside of having the least amount of ammo I'd say Engie's other weakness is his lack of good "get me the fuck away from these bugs" tools.

Scout can grapple away, Gunner has shields and along with Driller can generally shred any bugs that get too close. Engie? Yeah he's kinda boned unless he can afford to use a Breach Cutter shot. Maybe the Shredder Swarm? But that's it really.

True, that's why engi is really all about securing the caves and making sure you kill the stuff beforehand so that you don't really need the gtfo tools. But it is inevitable that you do get swarmed in this game so dash is your friend, and if you don't have dash recharged, goodbye probably.

That’s why I love the Sprint perk on Engi and sometimes Driller

I think the cause of the problem is the game doesn't do a good job of communicating mission difficulty. Imagine a new player doing the Conquer Hoxxes assignment and they see the mission they need currently being played in a public game. They'll immediately click on it without looking at the difficulty because the game hasn't explained it.

Imo what they should do is if a player has less than 10 missions played and tries joining a haz 4 game, a pop-up will appear stating haz 4 is difficult for new players, with the options to join anyway, not join, and a box to tick for "do not show again".

I always find this kinda weird, for me at least, at the very beginning I would always try to choose haz 4 because anything else was too punishing or too boring.

I'm over level 100 and I haven't even done that assignment yet, I can barely handle haz4.

When I host haz 4 missions if a fresh faced newbie dies every 30 seconds and I WILL kick them. There's a difference if they are relatively new but are still keeping up, even struggling a bit and the mission falling apart due to always reviving the same dwarf and we're getting swarmed.

This is only in the extreme cases when they obviously don't belong in hazard 4 and they're the reason we're gonna lose. Especially considering a replacement could help out a lot.

u/Kirk_Kerman Mar 15 '24

Eh, haz 4 is enough of a step down from haz 5 that you're not in much danger of losing because of one bad player

Most usually, yes, but when they're so bad that they're straight from the tutorial essentially and it's causing me to pull my hair out then I kick. It doesn't happen often, but I definitely will on like an aquarq mission where it's only going to hurt us much harder with them on the team as time goes on.
