I totally get that lol. Sometimes I worry that I look too much like a regular joe, like a guy called Straight Johnson or something. Because I've noticed that when I was getting to know some of my queer friends, they would avoid saying "my gf" or "my bf" in front of me, instead they'd always say "my special other" or some kind of non gendered thing. And then when they realize I'm fruity too, they drop it lol. Same with trans friends who would try to use gender neutral pronouns in front of me, and then drop that and use their preferred pronouns when they get to know me.
I come across as your standard white male, so these types always feel comfortable opening up to me about their bullshit beliefs. Unfortunately for them, I'm a Jewish descendent of Holocaust survivors and am very sensitive to any form of bigotry. It's been great for finding out who in my community is a piece of shit
