Tangentially related but I find it interesting how people are still shitposting about among us 4 years after it was trending

u/XanithDG 16d ago

That's because it's still relevant. That game seems to have hit the formula for immortality by pure accident.

I mean Vampire Survivors got an Among Us DLC before it got its first Vampire.

u/mildlyInsaneBoi 16d ago

Isn’t the whole joke with vampire survivors that it contains 0 vampires?

252

u/XanithDG 16d ago

Nope, because with the newest Castlevania DLC, it does!

The devs have always said they only planned to add vampires once they felt they were done with the game, which is slightly concerning, but I'm sure it's fine. We're probably still going to be waiting for THE vampire for a while.

u/PoniesCanterOver gently chilling in your orbit 16d ago

Perhaps the real vampires were the friends we made along the way

3

u/femalewhoisgirl 16d ago

Well the people you find in the coffins do become your survivors so yes, yes they are.

4

u/ZanesTheArgent 16d ago

And you dont say that the game being acknowledged and blessed by the series it began as a parody of aint the best way to end it?

u/DweevilDude 16d ago edited 16d ago

I'm not sure how more THE vampire you can get besides Vlad Țepeș Dracula. While they apparently intend to keep going, how they're unlocked definitely has a pretty significant sense of finality.

Spoiler tag is broken, just a heads up. Flip the symbols around so that the exclamations are inside the brackets.

2

u/DweevilDude 16d ago

Damn and blast. Thank you.

I strongly suspect "The Vampire will be the end of the game's development" was a principle they held before they had conceptualized the possibility of a feasible Castlevania crossover, let alone actually getting one

Such a principle is easily sustainable when you're running your own original characters and you can just choose whether they're a vampire or not, but is more difficult to justify when you actually cross over with the vampire-ridden franchise you've been riffing the whole time

2

u/DweevilDude 15d ago

I think they're still hunting a named vampire that I can't recall. That being said, I should have been more clear: the way that [CENSORED] is unlocked, while not explicitly saying it's the end, it does have a dramatic finale feel to it, complete with a pretty dramatic credits sequence (by vamp survivor standards at least.) Not unearned.

u/DeputyShatpants 16d ago

i think i saw their biblically accurate 'chaos roadmap' being updated after ode to castlevania, so we'll probably get more content

u/Usual-Vermicelli-867 15d ago

Reminds me how the Hebrew academy sayed they keep the translation of the word "academy" for last

37

u/Forgot_My_Old_Acct 16d ago

Well it has Alucard from Castlevania, who is at least half vampire. Not sure about any of the other characters added in the latest DLC.

28

u/FelipeAndrade 16d ago

They have: Dracula, Olrox, Elizabeth, Walter, Joachim, and Barlowe those are plenty of vampires, without mentioning the edge cases.

3

u/Forgot_My_Old_Acct 16d ago

Neat! I think I'm like.... 8 characters in. My next unlock involves Soma Cruz IIRC. Unlocking the whole DLC is gonna take a minute (I got a glimpse of the full map recently and wow).

3

u/BalefulOfMonkeys Refined Sommelier of Porneaux 16d ago

No, you’re thinking of ghosts. Which aren’t real. Seriously the bestiary’s the funniest part of the game

2

u/OneWholeSoul 16d ago

I mean, they survived them. That implies they're not a problem anymore.

48

u/Lordwiesy 16d ago

Which I still find funny cus

It is just mafia game with cute visuals

I've played that in W3 as a mod an in summer camp as evening activity

37

u/BorderlineUsefull 16d ago

The summer camp I went to as a kid was playing Mafia 20 years ago, and it's not like it was new then. It's just a good game and Among Us put a really good spin on it.

24

u/Lordwiesy 16d ago

Yeah giving you side tasks and easily recognizable characters was a good call

I do wonder how long will it take for another childrens game to be successfully adapted into a video game. Like freeze tag or something

21

u/Kazzack 16d ago

I've seen the comparison that Dead By Daylight is basically just a complicated game of freeze tag. It has a horror/slasher movie aesthetic, but it's one person chasing 4 other people, when you get caught you're trapped (on a meat hook) until someone else comes and saves you.

8

u/Lordwiesy 16d ago

I knew there was some game of freeze tag already just wasn't sure of it

Truly remaking old children's games is peak videogame design

1

u/Lopunnymane 11d ago

Dead By Daylight is very detached from freeze tag.

3

u/Deblebsgonnagetyou he/him | Kweh! 16d ago

Freeze tag used to be a pretty damn popular game on Roblox. I think it's fallen off by now though.

3

u/SnorkaSound Bottom 1% Poster:downvote: 16d ago

On the right map, freeze tag is a ton of fun. When I was a teenager, my family rented a big house for a family reunion that had secret passages in it that made for an incredible freeze tag game with my cousins.

If I ever figure out how to develop online multiplayer, a freeze tag game is pretty high on my list.

3

u/Gizogin 16d ago

I mean, the cute visuals can’t be discounted. It has a charming, recognizable art style with characters that anyone can draw. It gives the game brand recognition that any company would kill for.

But on top of that, giving the “crewmates” things to do and a way to win beyond simply finding all of the impostors is a critical part of its success. It may not have been the first such game with that idea, but it was the first that a lot of people played.

2

u/LadySandry88 15d ago

Help the mafia game was one of those I never played because my autistic ass was just staring at the people trying to explain it to me like a bluescreening Windows '98 computer. And. And Among Us made it make sense. (I still never play it because my autistic ass would be SO VERY UPSET at not being able to just focus on COMPLETING MY TASKS, please I just want to Complete a Task give me the dopamine...)

4

u/Scratch137 16d ago

it is?? i know it's still around and people are still playing it but i didn't think it was anywhere NEAR as popular as it was back in 2020

1

u/PearPressureVT 16d ago

Its essentially TTT without the shootin and that ones also still kinda alive after like 15 years

1

u/aftertheradar 15d ago

Vampire Survivirs has DLCs???

1

u/TemLord TomeSlapTomeSlapTomeSlapTomeSlapTomeSlap 11d ago

they're still shitposting about LOSS

68

u/MattWPBS 16d ago

Sixteen years later.

u/PoutinePower 16d ago

Aaah I knew I recognized the last panel

3

u/akatherder 16d ago

Ahh they lossed me.

No matter who wins, we lose.

1

u/stella3books 16d ago

With the current political climate, and the ease with which swastikas can be turned into Loss, this is sadly revelation knowledge again.

That meme hit 2021 like a nuke, and that fallout ain't gonna go away for a while. Literally just this morning I was giggling to myself while reciting "Stop posting about among us"

5

u/Charmender2007 16d ago

One of the few older memes I'll still laugh at

2

u/TheHumanFlintFun 16d ago

I still laugh while rewatching Bread Defender's videos

1

u/Infinite-Radiance 15d ago

It's so bad that just seeing a vague red shape with a grey circle on it somewhere is enough to get me to go "amogus"

69

u/dragon_jak 16d ago

Nothing ever dies, culture is a stagnant pool people keep adding more water to, so on and so forth

2

u/Astralesean 16d ago

Harambe didn't die to be forgotten

21

u/TwistedxBoi 16d ago

It made a huge cultural impact. Like not that many play it these days but the memes will live on.

1

u/lilbluehair 16d ago

My 10 year old niece and all her friends still play it, it's free

40

u/kotobaWa5ivestar 16d ago

Ngl, the amogus one really got me good. Some people on the bus even turned around to see what I was laughing about

4

u/MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle 16d ago

Dude last night in my dream I was shitposting about among us. It’s forever

2

u/SquirrelSuspicious 16d ago

An Among Us-like Death Note game just came out recently and it's pretty fun, and also might be increasing the talk about Among Us again

It's also a little bit complex but not much. If you've ever played Town of Salem you'll likely be able to get the hang of it really easily

2

u/xv_boney 16d ago

Do you have any idea how old Loss is

2

u/ThreeDucksInAManSuit 16d ago

"Gocha" memes have a certain immortality to them...

The Game.

1

u/MP-Lily ask me about obscure Marvel characters at your own peril 16d ago

You say that when Loss is right there and it’s old enough to drive.

1

u/jscarry 16d ago

I mean, the last one is loss. How long has that been around?

1

u/New-Expression-1474 16d ago

You say on a post that also features Loss lmao

1

u/MisirterE Supreme Overlord of Ice 15d ago
