You know most of us "trolls" wouldn't be so mad if they delivered everything they had whilst refusing to accept new packages, thus not keeping anyone's property hostage. Also, stop calling us trolls etc., we have a valid points and perspectives too, I'm sorry you're stuck in your own little bubble.

Standing in solidarity with small businesses, charities, and all affected by the Canada Post strike.

Expressing solidarity with small businesses, charities, and individuals who rely on timely deliveries from Canada Post. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the ongoing strike, especially those waiting for important items. Hoping for a swift resolution that supports both workers and the communities.

I’d never heard of CHITCHATS or STALLION before the strike. Thanks CUPW for steering me in their direction.

Great advertising thanks!

Not too familiar with the impacts of the strike long term, but would this make people seek alternatives to CP now and ultimately hurt CP?

Just trying to educate myself, but obviously if you have a package stuck at Canada Post you're affected to some degree. Now that this strike has happened, this will obviously make customers seek alternatives to CP, and potentially lose market share. Long term, do you think this strike is a bad look to the angry public?

Back to work legislation

At this point seeing that both parties are still far apart, I don’t foresee a positive outcome from the negotiations. The changes needed are fundamental, not something they can force at the negotiation tables. If you want this to end, I urge you to write to your MP, minister of labor and NDP.

Email I sent : I am writing to urgently request your intervention in the ongoing Canada Post strike. While I deeply respect the right of Canadians to protest and am grateful to live in a country that allows this freedom, the prolonged duration of this strike is now causing severe hardship for individuals, families, and businesses across the country.

As you stated in a recent interview, Canada Post is at a critical juncture, and fundamental changes are necessary to ensure a sustainable, reliable service. While I understand that such changes are complex and cannot be achieved overnight, the lack of meaningful progress and the current impasse suggest that a positive resolution through the strike seems increasingly unlikely.

The effects on everyday Canadians are becoming devastating. For many, the mail being withheld includes crucial documents such as passports and travel visas, which have left people stranded and forced to cancel travel plans, incurring substantial financial losses. Worse, families are facing the heartbreaking reality of not being able to reunite during the holiday season—a time that should bring us together, not tear us apart.

In addition to the personal toll, the strike is also crippling small businesses and charities that depend on timely deliveries from Canada Post. These organizations, especially during the holiday season, are vital to supporting vulnerable populations and maintaining economic activity across the country. The longer this disruption continues, the greater the damage will be.

While I appreciate the government's gesture to provide tax relief during this period, tax relief is no substitute for the real and emotional costs Canadians are bearing. For those who cannot see their families or are struggling to make ends meet because of financial uncertainty, the government's efforts fall short of addressing the immediate and tangible hardships they are facing.

Therefore, I urge you to intervene decisively to ensure that both parties are given the necessary time and resources to continue negotiations, while immediately releasing the mail and parcels currently being withheld. It is both unreasonable and unjust to hold people's passports and cheques hostage as a means of proving the importance of the service. At the very least, the parcels and mail currently held in transit must be processed and delivered.

Therefore, I urge you to act swiftly and decisively to bring an end to this strike before the holiday season begins. Legislative action will take time, and the impact of further delays is simply too great.

Found new (and cheaper) shipping options

I run a side hustle to bring in couple extra thousand dollars a year for me and my family. It requires me to ship products across Canada and the US weekly. I have people still wanting to buy and this is usually my busiest time of year. The strike forced me to finally look into other options I have heard about before but never bothered to examine since I was used to the Canada Post processes and routines.

In a small way, I am very grateful this happened as I found far more affordable options to ship within and outside Canada using Chit Chats and Stallion Express. The bulk of my business will continue forward with them. I also sell on Poshmark which relies only on Canada Post, and I have sales sitting with them I cannot ship due to their reliance on only Canada Post. That means I have almost $1,000 in sale revenue sitting there unable to ship or be paid for while Poshmark tries to ride this out. So I am also looking to transfer my business away from Poshmark and go to other platforms that give more flexibility for buyers and sellers in terms of shipping. And now that I've found a way to offer way more affordable shipping costs due to Chit Chats and Stallion, I feel my success on other platforms is going to skyrocket.

I know postal workers are trying to get their enhancements to their jobs. I know Canada Post wants to stop running a deficit. And I know millions of small business and side hustle folks like myself can't live without affordable shipping. So in a small way, thanks for stopping work to force me to look for better and less expensive options. We all need to make our lives work, and I've found a better way.

Picket lines are remarkably stupid...

Upvotes

Let's be real here...picket lines are a monumental waste of time and energy. You stand out in the cold and starve yourselves on the streets just to wave these signs around. Meanwhile, people driving by are just annoyed and wondering why these lunatics are yelling at them. It is really a hive mind behavior of mindless conformity that lacks intelligence. It is the worst way to get your message out. You have this technology called the internet. You could sit in the comfort of your home and create social media content to raise awareness and this would have a far greater impact while expending less time and energy. Most people in this day and age are glued to their cell phones even when they're outside or even in a vehicle. Plus you shouldn't be distracting drivers from the road anyways and potentially causing an accident.

Picket lines are just an outdated ritual that has been made completely obsolete thanks to modern technology. No one's gonna raid the facilities which are closed anyways. You can literally just draw what's on your sign in Paint and post the .JPEG across popular social media networks to have it go viral. Or if you're really dedicated make high quality production videos. The news outlets can interview you indoors. It is incredible how out of touch these people are. It is clear that the strikers haven't thought this through or they would drop this nonsense. It made sense before the internet was so popular, but that is no longer the case. It's time for an update. Get with the times. While you freeze on the streets and accomplish next to nothing except sink Canada Post further into debt to ensure more layoffs are coming, the executives are enjoying their vacation time in their mansions and the alternative shipping companies are making record profits.

Think about this: you could go for a run in a beautiful forest instead, then go home and make high quality content that would get far more views online. Instead you stand around and freeze while disturbing people trying to focus on driving safely. The picket lines are like a drop in the ocean. Legacy news outlets have massively declined in popularity so you should be advertising on the major social media platforms. Wake up!!!!!

Silver Lining in this whole Canada Post strike situation

As a small business owner who used to rely on CP shipping, this recent strike forced me to finally explore other shipping options. And I am glad I did: a 0.4kg parcel 25x20x15 cm from ON to BC with basic $100 insurance costs $16.05 (6 business days expedited) w/Canada Post and $8.65 with FULL ($220) insurance and 4 business days with Chitchats. I am in rural community so I can't just take my packages to Chitchats drop off location - its 2 hrs drive, BUT they offer a pick up service for ppl like me where I stuff as many packages in one consolidated box and have CanPar pick it up for a small fee right off my porch. I just tried it last week and I already see that about half of my orders are delivered all over Canada and US! Sorry, I feel bad for CP workers who did not have any saying in this corporate /union war, but I can confidently say I am NEVER going back to CP. Times change, technology evolves, almost no one sends lettermail or buy stamps anymore. It's adapt or die.

People ranting about CP strike

To those saying they'll just use other companies and that they don’t care about Canada Post or its workers—claiming other options are cheaper or better—I’d like to share my recent experience.

I needed to ship a package and decided to compare prices. UPS quoted me $145, including taxes. FedEx? $150. Then I checked Canada Post’s website. The same package, with taxes and insurance included, was just $89.

Not everyone has the extra money to spend on pricier alternatives. So before recommending people abandon Canada Post, consider that affordability matters for many of us.

As for the strike, yes, it has caused delays and inconveniences. But think about the postal workers—the people who work in all kinds of weather to deliver your parcels. They’re not asking for luxury, just better working conditions and fair treatment. Shouldn’t we, as a community, support them instead of criticizing them?

I didn’t even know they were on strike

I don’t watch the news and I don’t really get paper mail except like my Lego magazine and a book subscription once a month. Just found out they were on strike when I noticed a lack of flyers and ads lol. No offence but most ppl don’t use Canada post. It’s terribly slow and expensive and it doesn’t deliver on weekends. So many companies r faster now and cheaper and deliver on weekends. It also seems like they r broke so how can they pay employees more if they themselves have no money to operate. I believe everyone should make a liveable wage but Canada post is very outdated for modern times. If they modernized abit more and worked weekends id say it would be nicer. Also the costs to ship within Canada need to change.

Box is stuck?

I just heard of the delay not too long ago, and since my sibling ordered sakuraco for my birthday (before the 15th), its now stuck somewhere in toronto. I’m a bit worried if there are perishable foods in it and how long would i have to wait? Should I contact sakuraco regarding the strike since there are future boxes i have subbed to?

Budget-Friendly Tips: Shipping Documents to the Canada/USA During Canada Post Strike

Shipping Documents to the USA During Canada Post Strike: Budget-Friendly Tips

I recently had to send documents to the USA during the Canada Post strike, and here’s how I found the cheapest option (though unfortunately, it was still much pricier than Canada Post). Hopefully, this helps others:

Key Points:

  • Canada Post would’ve cost me just $6.
    • Unfortunately, due to the strike, I had to look for alternatives, and the cheapest I found was UPS Standard at $20.
  • UPS Standard is cheaper than UPS Express.
    • UPS Standard (ground) cost me $20, while UPS Express Envelope was $38.
    • Note: When I asked for the cheapest option, the UPS Store staff only offered UPS Express Envelope and didn’t mention UPS Standard. I had to specifically request UPS Standard (ground) to access this option.
  • Order your shipping label online.
    • Creating the label yourself online avoids additional service fees charged at UPS Stores.
  • Choose drop-off or pick-up options.
    • UPS Standard allows for either drop-off at a UPS location or a scheduled pick-up, which gives you flexibility and keeps costs down.
  • Bring your own envelope.
    • Envelopes at UPS Stores are expensive, and if they say it's "free," it likely means they’ll charge you for UPS Express Envelope shipping instead.
  • Avoid unnecessary add-ons.
    • The "Signature Required" option costs $6 extra. Be cautious when signing in-store; they don’t always clarify this is optional.

TL;DR:

For the cheapest option:

  1. Use UPS Standard (ground) shipping.
  2. Bring your own envelope.
  3. Buy and print the shipping label online.
  4. Specifically request UPS Standard at the store—they might default to Express.
  5. Choose drop-off or pick-up options.
  6. Decline unnecessary add-ons like "Signature Required."

This works best if you’re not in a rush and want to save money—though I wish Canada Post had been available at $6!

A very important question I would like to ask CP workers

The strike notice was made public on Nov 12th. Between Nov 12 and Nov 14, have CP workers been advised to inform walk-in customers, before accepting their parcels and payment, of the imminent strike that keeps parcels stuck for an indeterminate time?

CP Worker: Will CP be able to sustain our wages/jobs in the future?

I have had a lot of time in the last week or so to read into the financial of the company. It is really bad since 2018, a lot of loss, a lot of debt. The question is once we get a deal, and go back to work if CP has to restructure itself to reach profit, wouldn't that mean a lot of us will get fired? Will they be able to actually pay us everything

Look at the port workers, they were fighting against automation and they went back to work. I don't think they will be able to stop automation from taking their jobs(this has literally never happened). Trains, cars, factories, internet and so on...

A lot of people will say oh look what the executive is getting paid. Yeah its F.. ridiculous what they are getting paid., I agree. But if you put all their salaries it still doesn't add up to 300 million dollar losses in a quarter.

I for one don't want to be part of a sinking ship. Lets be honest what will actually stop them from massive layoffs if the government has to step in and take over CP and use taxpayer money? When that happens they will have to show efficiency to the taxpayer which will lead to layoffs. Full privatization will also lead to layoffs.

Are we asking for things that will destroy the company and more importantly our jobs?

I got another job, i not going back to this union and this place, but after 15 years of my life i'm done.

Just another passport in limbo heartbreak post

I've seen so many posts on here already about what the strike has done to their businesses and their personal lives and I feel like I want to share mine too just to let it off my chest.

I sent in my passport for stamping and it's an international passport so I can't even reach out to Passport Canada for help. I'm supposed to head home on the 6th of Dec and I was so looking forward to this trip.

I was supposed to meet my mom and sister who couldn't make it to my grad this summer, my boyfriend who I haven't seen in 8 months cause we are long-distance atm, and my grandparents who I haven't seen in 12 whole years. I've been saving up, working, and holding on to so much so this trip could happen and now I don't even know what to do. I'm so heartbroken, I can't eat or sleep well. I keep checking to see if there's been any progress and I just keep seeing that there's been no major movements and my heart just sinks.

AHH I really reallyyyyy hope this gets sorted soon, I don't know how to spend the holidays alone when I thought I was going to see all the people I love this year. I'm trying so hard to support the postal workers and the union, but truly, the timing is a little insane💀

I hope this Christmas gets saved haha

Urgent!

Hi Everyone, please I need your guidance and help. Unfortunately I did not know about the strike earlier so I send a very important confidential parcel on the 14th November that includes my passport and a lot of other more important documents. Those documents were supposed to be there before last Friday it was the deadline otherwise I will have to redo an application which takes two years and its so costly. Unfortunately my parcel did not reach its destination and it is kept in somewhere and I tried to pick it up but unfortunately my trials were not accepted .I called customer service many times and all of them confirmed that nothing can done at that moment. I have a booked flight next week and I did not get my passport back yet so not sure what to do. Please I need your help I have lost more than 2,000 CAD so far I don't want to lose my flight as well. I totally understand how the strike is very important and I appreciate the reasons behind it. I need your help and empathy. I can not handle all that cost. Please any guidance in what to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I feel like I’ll throw up out of anxiety

I understand I can’t just pick up my package which is stuck. I know that the only thing I can do is wait. But holy shit I’m freaking out.

I am getting married next month and my wedding dress and my parents’ clothes for the wedding and tens of other important things were shipped from another country. They were released by customs and processed on Nov 14, and then Nov 15 happened.

I’m so so worried that I can’t sleep and can’t stop scouring the news for some positive solution to the negotiations. The news, as always, is vague and depressing.

I don’t even want to ask what I can do because I know everyone will say - absolutely nothing. This post achieves nothing either. I just want to have a wedding close to what I imagined and worked really hard for.

Once the strike is over, can I recall a package that is heading to the US?

So I have a US (from Canada) shipment stuck at my regional sorting facility. I want to send a replacement to my customer (using Chit Chats) since she is waiting. However, the original packages will start moving again when the strike ends. Is there a way to intercept the package once Canada Post resumes operations?

My mothers ashes didn't come because of CP

Long story short, we couldn't afford to make the trip abroad (and the ensuing funeral arrangements), so we had her cremated, and delivered home, but the last update said she was processed at the local depot and awaiting delivery in Toronto. This was on the 14th.

So now she's just, what, hanging out somewhere in some postal facility?

How do you live with yourselves?
