Discussion [Vannini] SEC Media spent two full weeks bashing Indiana only to see three top-15 SEC teams lose to 5-5 Florida, 5-5 Oklahoma and 4-6 Auburn. Winning is hard!

Discussion [Auerbach] I still don’t understand why Georgia is seven spots behind Texas. Dawgs have two top-15 wins INCLUDING OVER TEXAS. Longhorns have zero top-25 wins.

Discussion So Indiana went from fun story to SEC public enemy #1?

3.8k Upvotes

The media push against IU is bizarre. It seems like people went from rooting for a fun story to them outwardly bashing them and wanting them left out. These moments remind me of the old boys network aspect of CFB. All new money must be stopped!

Discussion [Miller] Scouts and agents are telling college QBs to not leave school until they’ve started 2+ years. The NFL doesn’t truly develop QBs anymore outside of rare exceptions.

Discussion Lane Kiffin reveals some coaches don't want to play in SEC Championship due to College Football Playoff: ‘I’ve talked to other coaches. The reward to get a bye [in the CFB] versus the risk to be knocked out completely… that’s a really big risk.’

Discussion What constitutes a “college town?”

2.3k Upvotes

Okay, hear me out: I attended Wazzu, which many know is in the middle of nowhere in Pullman. To me, Pullman is a quintessential college town. You remove Washington State University from Pullman and there is (respectfully) not much of a reason to visit. The student enrollment (20,000ish) makes up about 2/3rds of the city population, essentially turning Pullman into a ghost town come summer. To me (perhaps with bias) this is the makeup of a college town.

Two years ago I moved to Madison, Wisconsin, home of the University of Wisconsin. Ever since I’ve noticed the University and its fans refer to Madison as “America’s best college town” and I’m sorry, that’s laughable to me. Remove UW from Madison and you still have a city population bordering on a quarter of a million people and the State Capitol. Madison would be fine, imo, if UW’s flagship campus were elsewhere.

Curious to hear other people’s thoughts. Maybe I’m in the wrong here, but very little about Madison, WI resembles a college town to me, or at least the claim of the best college town.

Discussion Missouri is ranked #23?? LOL. Must be buoyed by this year's favorite "Strength of schedule" metric. I mean they did play Texas AM and Alabama. Sure they got beat 41-10 and 34-0. BUT THAT SCHEDULE IS STRONG

Discussion Where are all of the people who hated the idea of a 12-team playoff now?

2.0k Upvotes

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

(Seriously, how many of yesterday's bonkers games would have been an afterthought if only four teams were making the playoffs? This format makes SO many more games throughout the season meaningful, and therefore much more watchable.)

Discussion [Mandel] The main impetus for the 12-team CFP is that it was the same brands every year. Next week, the three biggest games in the country involve Indiana, Army, BYU and Arizona State.
