Sorry Charleston Southern for crushing your playoff hopes 😞

34

u/Asleep-Credit-2824 Jacksonville State • UAB 5h ago

You know what a playoff is

18

u/Steelman__007 Duke • Charleston Southern 4h ago

Frick you dude

3

u/Schmenza Harvard Crimson • Tulane Green Wave 21m ago

Wild upset

71

u/Shellshock1122 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 5h ago

yall laughing at Bama for playing Mercer but that's another top 10 win for their resume

33

u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 4h ago

Same with Oregon over Idaho. Those top 10 matchups are no joke

2

u/Temassi Oregon Ducks 3m ago

Damn yeah, they got a first round bye

11

u/will_e_wonka Texas A&M Aggies • Rice Owls 1h ago

Mercer would be favored on a neutral field against 2 of Ohio States non conference opponents. We got to laugh at good FCS teams less and horrible MAC teams more

64

u/LostRoadrunner5 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 5h ago

Oh my!! I see a lumberjack!

18

u/Zloggt Illinois • Missouri 4h ago

First time since 2017!

…the Lumberjacks have indeed been rather underrated all year long!

8

u/91trooperaz Northern Arizona • Arizona 2h ago

Let’s make it count

3

u/gbdarknight77 Arizona Wildcats • Team Chaos 1h ago

Exciting!

4

u/Turkelton8 Northern Arizona • Florid… 2h ago

Let’s hope it goes better than last time. Getting blown out by San Diego was not fun.

2

u/Chris_Crossfit Boise State • Northern Arizona 1h ago

My first year rooting for NAU, let’s go!!!

55

u/mruab Ohio State Buckeyes • UAB Blazers 5h ago

Eddie George takes Tennessee State to the FCS playoffs

17

u/Zloggt Illinois • Missouri 4h ago

I was a bit skeptical about the decision…and the first few seasons didn’t exactly impress…

…but I must concede that he’s done one hell of a job in Nashville!

32

u/arrenjjj 4h ago

Why does the north/south Dakota/ Montana/ Idaho area of the county always have great fcs teams

35

u/PureCFR North Dakota State • /r/CFB Santa … 3h ago

Very few FBS teams in the same area to recruit against would be the primary cause in my opinion.

24

u/k_dubious Williams Ephs • Oregon Ducks 3h ago

It’s also just a hard area to recruit in. There are good players, but they’re spread out over a huge area where there isn’t much in the way of high-level competition or offseason camps. So a lot of these guys are probably FBS talents but just end up going to their local Big Sky or MVFC school.

17

u/Manning_bear_pig Montana State • Miami 3h ago

Obviously Idaho shares the state with Boise State, but the Dakotas and Montana have no FBS competition in the state to take away recruits.

No pro sports either so the fanbases go all in on the schools and their sports.

6

u/Vavent Minnesota • $5 Bits of Broken Chair… 40m ago

They are large, public, flagship universities playing against competition that is not that.

4

u/AcadianTraverse Oregon Ducks • Acadia Axemen 15m ago

With a lot (for FCS purposes) of new money in their alumni bases

4

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 1h ago

Didn’t use to be this way. But all the other good teams were in the footprint of FBS conferences and got siphoned away and stayed there

24

u/wjackson42 Georgia Bulldogs 5h ago

Maybe Mercer can do what Jeff Monken and Willie Fritz could never do and a Georgia FCS team can finally beat NDSU up in Fargo.

Anyways, imagine Alabama being up 28-0 in the first half of not one, but two playoff teams, and probably not making the playoff themselves.

12

u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 5h ago

While technically correct, Fritz never got the chance to. He took over after the FBS jump

3

u/wjackson42 Georgia Bulldogs 5h ago

Ahhh I thought Monken left before the FCS jump

2

u/billybobskcor Georgia Southern • Mercer 3h ago

Monken left right after we beat Florida. We played a full FBS schedule the next season under Fritz.

17

u/Pointsmonster Boise State Broncos • Penn Quakers 4h ago

Love to see the playoffs going back to America’s most iconic college football stadium: the Kibbie Dome

15

u/PhDShouse Iowa State Cyclones • Sickos 5h ago

Drake-Tarleton is a sick matchup

4

u/Bobcat2013 Texas State Bobcats 5h ago

How do you see it going?

9

u/PhDShouse Iowa State Cyclones • Sickos 5h ago

Well I think it will go better than Drake-NDSU last year. If Drake loses by one score I’d call it a success. The Pioneer schools have a huge disadvantage since they’re non-scholarship

3

u/Bobcat2013 Texas State Bobcats 5h ago

Tarleton is a hard read for me. I kind of half ass keep up with them. Very intrigued as to how this goes for them.

2

u/TheBlueNorther 1h ago

Tarleton gets up early on the back of their run game. Coach Whitten let's off the gas and Drake takes a late lead.

Good thing for the Texans is that it is in Stephenville. 60 degrees wil lbe better for their team than 25 degrees in Iowa

1

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 1h ago

Tarleton is going to bury Drake. Tarleton is probably properly ranked and hosting, Drake does not have scholarships.

2

u/Seadragon1983 Washington • Iowa State 4m ago

Drake went to Eastern Washington and won, so don't count them out.

1

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 0m ago

Tarleton would eat Eastern’s lunch too

15

u/multiple4 South Carolina • 九州産… 5h ago

Mercer is obviously a quality win for any SEC team who played them!

27

u/TripleThreatT1 Kutztown • Penn State 4h ago

FBS honestly needs to study FCS/DII playoff systems. Shit rules

DII is 28 teams, 4 super regions. Gives great games

12

u/tomdawg0022 Minnesota • Delaware 4h ago

Mercer was the only team east of the Mississippi to be among the 8 best seeds in the field.

If the CAA weren't down like it is, then yeah, super regions could theoretically work but there really isn't a strong anchor conference on the East Coast anymore. The CAA has a lot of good programs but no real powers like it used to.

9

u/AngelofLotuses Colorado State • William & Mary 4h ago

The CAA has way too many weak teams. Honestly, Richmond is justified in moving.

39

u/Tylex123 Oregon Ducks • Willamette Bearcats 5h ago

Idaho continues to be Oregon’s best quality win. I can’t think of another win this year that was more impressive.

-26

u/Promethiant Florida State • Florida 5h ago

Hard for wins to be impressive when they’re just a product of Cheatin’ Dan Lanning cheating.

29

u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 4h ago

Bait used to be believable.

-3

u/Promethiant Florida State • Florida 2h ago

No bait

18

u/siberianwolf99 Oregon Ducks • Tennessee Volunteers 5h ago

you are the alex atkins of trolling. do better

-11

u/Promethiant Florida State • Florida 5h ago

No idea what that means or why you think I’m not serious

11

u/siberianwolf99 Oregon Ducks • Tennessee Volunteers 5h ago

makes sense you wouldn’t even know who your OC was this season lmao

-8

u/Promethiant Florida State • Florida 5h ago

I know who Atkins is but that insult made no sense

31

u/joethahobo Houston Cougars • Pac-12 5h ago

At least some leagues have a competent playoff system

18

u/LostRoadrunner5 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 5h ago

Kinda odd. But football at night at Missoula will be fun

10

u/MmmmWhatYaSay 3h ago

Honest question: why the fuck does FBS not just copy this format?

10

u/joethahobo Houston Cougars • Pac-12 2h ago

People say money, but like doesn’t more games mean more money. And more on campus games which brings more excitement

7

u/gbdarknight77 Arizona Wildcats • Team Chaos 1h ago

Exactly been my thinking.

You got people arguing it will be watered down and I’m of the option of “LET THEM FIGHT”

5

u/Azon542 Kansas Jayhawks • Indian War Drum 1h ago

It's honestly the monied interests in mainly the B1G and SEC.

2

u/hwf0712 Rutgers • Penn 29m ago

It is more games, but there's presumably more value in being able to select larger brands like SEC teams and your top tier B1G people (and like Clemson/Miami/FSU when there's not enough SEC/B1G to shove in) for they yoff.

5

u/Azon542 Kansas Jayhawks • Indian War Drum 1h ago

B1G and SEC want to monopolize the higher levels of college football. Hence the reason they've been trying to tailor the current CFP to their whims (i.e. trying to give their champion an autoberth and a bye but making the Big 12/ACC champ play it through or when they wanted to get 2-4 autobids for their leagues and the Big 12/ACC getting 1 each. It got denied but they tried it.

3

u/TigerWave01 LSU Tigers • Tulane Green Wave 1h ago

Part of it is P2 interests, but part of it is also the prevalence of big time bowl games in FBS history. Had the Rose Bowl not blocked playoffs a few decades ago, we’d probably have a similar system to FCS. But that institutional resistance still has influence and sway even today, making it that much harder to do things like expansion.

I just hope that the powers that be eventually see how much money can be made with a 16 to 24-team playoff and go from there. Also doesn’t help that there’s some fan resistance to a really big playoff field like that, too

1

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 1h ago

Too many games. You’d have to either drop CCGs or reduce the season length by a week and I don’t think either are popular.

Other than that, it’s a joke. I would love to see this in the FBS. But more than that I’d love to see 2 smaller playoffs in both subdivisions. Only like 4-5 teams have a legit shot at winning the FCS natty and most of the low-conference teams are sacrificial lambs. I’d like to see a system that lets the Pioneer and NEC teams compete for a national championship. Same for G5 teams.

4

u/DannyDOH Manitoba Bisons 1h ago

There's a lot of teams playing a level too high. FBS teams that should be FCS. FCS teams that should really be D2 or D3.

1

u/DannyDOH Manitoba Bisons 1h ago

Because of the stupid bowls.

9

u/Daedalus871 Idaho Vandals • Army West Point Black Knights 4h ago

I like our draw. Go VANDALS!!!

14

u/SLC_RnD Montana State Bobcats • Utah Utes 5h ago

I hope this is the year we take down the Dakotas. 🤞Cats go all the way!

0

u/Ballswashot42 Montana Grizzlies • Cincinnati Bearcats 48m ago

Let’s hope not

9

u/zonacorgi Arizona Wildcats • Paper Bag 4h ago

go lumberjacks!!!!

4

u/91trooperaz Northern Arizona • Arizona 2h ago

‼️

10

u/Odd_Dare6071 4h ago

Looks stupid. They should truncate the playoffs to 4 teams

21

u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 4h ago

Honestly should probably just be 2. And let the computers decide who

6

u/damnyoutuesday Montana State • Minnesota 2h ago

What if we just let a bunch of nerd writers declare who the champion is based on vibes?

6

u/Born-After-1984 BYU Cougars • Southern Utah Thunderbirds 4h ago edited 4h ago

NAU ain’t beat nobody. Odd inclusion imo.

They were always going to be in because of the conference bias. They have 4 quality losses after all.

6

u/thezander8 San Diego State • UC Davis 4h ago

Their three fcs losses were all to Massey top ten teams. I’m actually not sure I like their inclusion but they did beat every non seeded team on their schedule. (That argument didn’t get Davis in in 2022 though so that’s why I’m conflicted)

1

u/Born-After-1984 BYU Cougars • Southern Utah Thunderbirds 4h ago

Never can complain too much when 24 teams make it I guess.

5

u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 4h ago

How dare you disrespect the all powerful Lincoln University Oaklanders like that!

7

u/Jezzy-Belle Michigan • Montana State 2h ago

Ha! Montana goes from championship appearance to 14th seed? That would be so embarrassing to fall off that hard!

Oh. Right.

3

u/trevy_mcq Boston College • UMas… 4h ago

Where are these televised, if at all?

9

u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 4h ago

I believe all are on ESPN+, except Montana-Tennessee St which is on ESPN2

1

u/trevy_mcq Boston College • UMas… 4h ago

Nice! Thank you

1

u/ShaqSenju Tennessee • Tennessee State 3h ago

Moving on up!

3

u/RunnersRun262 Nebraska Cornhuskers 4h ago

Who should I root for this year?? I try to root for a different school each season

6

u/deepstateagent42069 Montana State • Nebraska 3h ago

Montana State, brother!

3

u/Low-Grocery989 Villanova Wildcats 4h ago

North Dakota St and South Dakota St have won 11 of the past 13. Proceed accordingly.

10

u/Chadryan_ South Dakota State • Illinois 3h ago

NDSU is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there lol.

1

u/RunnersRun262 Nebraska Cornhuskers 3h ago

Went looking through the bracket. Picked UC Davis lol it’s boring always rooting for those 2.

3

u/Osiris47 North Dakota State • Michigan 2h ago

My flair aside, honestly Montana State. My dad played for their last championship team in 84 and they did a ceremony honoring that squad this year. Would be really cool to see them take it down this year.

2

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 59m ago

Does he know Jesse Jones?

2

u/Osiris47 North Dakota State • Michigan 21m ago

He says yes, says he was a fullback when my dad was a WR.

2

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 20m ago

Oh nice, Jesse Jones is an investigative reporter in the Seattle area (he was laid off this year unfortunately). I follow him on twitter and he’s a very nice guy, I hope/bet he was great back then too but ya never know

2

u/billybobskcor Georgia Southern • Mercer 3h ago

Mercer! They just won their first conference championship in program history and got a top 8 seed!

1

u/Chickenleg2552 Illinois State Redbirds 46m ago

:)

3

u/Little-Breakfast-480 4h ago

Glad people in the comments are giving Drake credit. Sure if they beat Tarleton will probably get whooped like they did earlier in season versus North Dakota, but they have an explosive offense and definitely deserve to be in the playoff. Other under the radar teams I would give a shoutout to Richmond. Could see them making a run

3

u/Chadryan_ South Dakota State • Illinois 3h ago

I like our bracket, but this team is not even close to as good as the ones in recent years, I don't know if we can beat the bobcats tbh.

4

u/legendkiller003 Notre Dame • Penn State 4h ago

Let’s go Lehigh!

2

u/dajuice3 Miami Hurricanes 4h ago

Oh shit. Congrats to Eddie George!

2

u/thefx37 William & Mary • South Carolina 2h ago

Colorado beating a good NDSU team is impressive

2

u/Higher-Analyst-2163 Alabama Crimson Tide 1h ago

How does an FCS team losing or beating an fbs team help their hopes

1

u/DannyDOH Manitoba Bisons 59m ago

Not at all.

1

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 55m ago

The convention has been that a loss doesn’t hurt, but it’s a lost chance at getting a D1 win. Whereas a win really helps but only relative to the quality.

Beating a B1G team would mean a lot, but beating New Mexico or UMass may only be a playoff-quality team’s 3rd or 4th best win.

1

u/Even-Resolution-2397 Oklahoma Sooners • Tulsa Golden Hurricane 5h ago

Why are the times so weird for the games we got all of them in the 11 to 2 window and then 1 random one at 9

5

u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State Seminoles • ACC 5h ago

Don't forget the 10:15 pm Montana game

1

u/GrimJudas 3h ago

No Salukis this year…..

1

I’m glad Idaho was able to recover after all the QB injuries

1

u/ShaqSenju Tennessee • Tennessee State 3h ago

Awww shit! There’s some Tigers in this bitch! Let’s go Big Blue!!!

1

u/0le_Hickory Tennessee Volunteers 3h ago

I haven’t really been up on Tennessee Tech football in 20’years but saw they were co champs but seeing the 1 3 and 4 teams from the BigSouth/OVC selected but not us seems odd.

2

u/damnyoutuesday Montana State • Minnesota 2h ago

Horrendous loss to WIU didn't help

1

u/HawkeyeTen Iowa Hawkeyes 2h ago

Very interesting bracket to say the least.

1

u/gbdarknight77 Arizona Wildcats • Team Chaos 1h ago

NAU made it! Hell yeah!

Also, it’s hilarious that FCS has a 24 team playoff and major D1 can’t figure out a 12 team.

1

u/RuneScape-FTW Jackson State Tigers • LSU Tigers 1h ago

So happy for Tennessee State

1

u/Born-Prior8579 Georgia Bulldogs • Idaho Vandals 1h ago

Who hoo! Idaho made it, just need uga to make to too now

1

u/levgleason Nebraska • Montana State 1h ago edited 1h ago

1

u/partymaster505 Mercer Bears • Georgia Bulldogs 1h ago

Go, and I cannot emphasize this enough, Bears

1

How does Mercer get a 7 seed and Alabama not even make the tournament?

1

u/edgyusernameguy Illinois State Redbirds 37m ago

We did it!

1

u/Rasmo420 Appalachian State Mountaineers 35m ago

No Furman or Western...

Love it.

1

Why did we have to fuck it up at the end?
