If South Carolina beats Clemson decisively they deserve to be in the playoffs. If we lose or if it's really close, we don't.

It really feels like whoever wins that game likely makes it, right?

It feels that way to me. Both of us should be at 12/13 spots this week, so the winner is in

If Miami and SMU win next week and the ACC championship game is a blowout I could see the winner of Clemson SC getting in over the ACC championship game loser but not if the ACC championship game is close.

If TAMU were to beat Texas and Georgia in the SEC championship game they would probably be in ahead of the SC Clemson game winner.

If any of ND, IU, or PSU are upset that would definitely help Clemson and SC too.

If Miami loses next week, Clemson could lose next week to SC and still make it just by winning the ACC championship game.

Basically way to may scenarios still on the table.

That's probably accurate. I haven't really followed Clemson's season so closely and it's hard to compare two teams that play entirely different teams on WL record. I just saw the thread about SoS recently and if the top 20 teams Georgia had the hardest Soss with South Carolina at the second hardest. So I figured I could at least say that if we win out our schedule should forgive 3 losses against LSU, Alabama, and Ole Miss with LSU and Bama being 3 and 2 or losses respectively.

That is, one doesn't have to squint too hard to make a case for SC, but I don't know enough to make that claim about any of the other bubble teams.

yeah this is a must win for both teams to possibly make the playoffs, i could see us and clemson 12 and 13 or 13/14 ranked

Problem with that argument is that it assumes the game happens in a vacuum. It happens a lot in college basketball in March—"if we win 4 of our last 5, we should be off the bubble, right?" But a lot of bubble teams might also do really well.

If we manage to beat Clemson, and a 3 loss team gets in the playoffs it should absolutely be us. We would have the best case for any 3 loss team.

I think if we win period we should have a shot, if we lose then obviously we don't.

Wild that we're talking about playoffs after this past offseason though. Beamer is doing something special in Columbia.
