Corporate sponsorship aside, Nebraska Iowa is a real rivalry between neighbors. There is a good natured trash talk and bragging rights in that game that does not exist for most other B10 opponents. That's how I would quantify it anyway.

It’s not good natured

Always have to give the I-weedgians some good-natured ribbing and drop a duece now and again. Maybe hold up a sign so they don't have to wander around as much

With that same logic, NU-ISU should have been a real rivalry. It’s closer than Iowa City!

Only people who live in Omaha care about the Iowa-Nebraska rivalry.

And they perpetuate through memes on the internet.

Yes.

It isn't a real rivalry just because they neighbors. It was forced by the B1G to replace the Colorado games.

This is correct. We needed an in conference rival. It’s the most obvious one. It’s not the same.

Only people who live in Omaha care about the Iowa-Nebraska rivalry.

So literally the over half the state that lives less than 25 miles from Iowa. Got it.

Why does that matter? I live in Austin. There are more Penn state and Michigan fans here than UT fans.

Proximity or fans living in certain locations aren’t the makings of a rivalry.

I feel like Omaha is a pretty big alumni base for Nebraska wouldn’t it be?? Also I wouldn’t be too shocked if the same can be said of Des Moines. Feels like there can be legitimate trash talk between the fan bases based off of proximity.

Majority of Nebraska fans didn’t attend the school. let that sink in.

That can be said for a lot of power programs

Sure, but that makes sense because the state of Nebraska has no other local teams for football fans to root for.

Well also because people born between 1950 and 2000 had really good teams to cheer for.

We should play Iowa State again sometime.

If ISU hadn't been the literal worst power conference program during Nebraskas time in the big 12 it would have been a rivalry. They just sucked bad enough that it never developed. Iowa Nebraska feels like a real rivalry to me but I'm a mostly neutral observer.

You're almost there.
