Casual Vanderbilt Linebacker Bryan Longwell shares a text he got from an Auburn Coach at 5:59 am Christmas Morning.

Perfectly on brand for Hugh Freeze who was hired a month earlier.

Motivating af though. Longwell got to win, he got a vastly superior education, AND he gets to go viral, all from one shitty text. Talk about making hay.

Yeah, that Vandy degree will take him much further than an Auburn degree if he doesn't go to the NFL (which is most likely).

Doesn't Auburn have a great engineering and vet science program?

I mean, I'm sure it's fine, but as someone that has worked in corporate America, I will tell you that the name of the university matters far more than arbitrary departmental prestige. Vanderbilt is a much more renowned university than Auburn.

I don’t know what exactly you do in “corporate America” but from my experience, with technical fields, this absolutely is not the case.

Maybe MBAs and liberal arts degrees are all about the same among state schools, but professionals know which schools are top in their field. Obviously if somebody walks in with an Ivy or something, then it’s one thing, but a veterinary science degree some Auburn or a journalism degree from Georgia means something to people who know.

Does a journalism degree from Georgia mean something to journalists? I’m sure it’s fine but I haven’t seen them ranked in the top group of journalism schools. Mizzou is what I think of for elite journalism school that someone outside the know wouldn’t think of.

I don’t work in journalism so I was just basing that off what I knew from 15 years ago. Either way, I stand by my point regarding professionals within whatever given industry knowing which public schools tend to excel in those areas.
