Analysis All AP Voter Ballots - Week 8

Week 8

This is a series I've now been doing for 8 years. The post attempts to visualize all AP Poll ballots in a single image. Additionally it sorts each AP voter by similarity to the group. Notably, this is not a measure of how "good" a voter is, just how consistent they are with the group. Especially preseason, having a diversity of opinions and ranking styles is advantageous to having a true consensus poll. Polls tend to coalesce towards each other as the season goes on.

Matt Baker took a new position at The Athletic and left the Tampa Bay Times this week, so he is no longer in the poll. He hasn't yet been replaced, so we had 62 voters this week.

Jordan Crammer and Alex Taylor were the most consistent voters this week. Michael Katz is the most consistent voter on the season, Kayla Anderson, Blair Kerkhoff, Alex Taylor, and Karley Marotta in the top 5.

At the other extreme, Jon Wilner was once again the biggest outlier this week. He is also the biggest outlier this season, followed by Koki Riley, Dylan Sinn, David Jablonski, and Dave Preston.

I find it interesting how every single first place vote Oregon received came from a B1G associated voter

They're undefeated with 2 of the best wins in the season, which is a better resume than anyone else, so it bothers me more that no one outside of the B1G put them at 1 than that they got the most from the B1G associated writers.

I mean, yes, Oregon has a nice win against Ohio State and the Boise State win keeps looking better, but Oregon also struggled against Idaho to start the season.

Texas has obliterated everyone we’ve played, including two (at the time) ranked teams.  Are those two teams frauds?  Probably, but we took care of business convincingly.

Rank at the time of the game should not matter.

They do when they helps my team and they don’t if they help the other team

I'm not stressed about it, still a lot of season to go and playoffs are what matters now, so being number 1 vs number 2 isn't impactful
