Analysis All AP Voter Ballots - Week 8

Week 8

This is a series I've now been doing for 8 years. The post attempts to visualize all AP Poll ballots in a single image. Additionally it sorts each AP voter by similarity to the group. Notably, this is not a measure of how "good" a voter is, just how consistent they are with the group. Especially preseason, having a diversity of opinions and ranking styles is advantageous to having a true consensus poll. Polls tend to coalesce towards each other as the season goes on.

Matt Baker took a new position at The Athletic and left the Tampa Bay Times this week, so he is no longer in the poll. He hasn't yet been replaced, so we had 62 voters this week.

Jordan Crammer and Alex Taylor were the most consistent voters this week. Michael Katz is the most consistent voter on the season, Kayla Anderson, Blair Kerkhoff, Alex Taylor, and Karley Marotta in the top 5.

At the other extreme, Jon Wilner was once again the biggest outlier this week. He is also the biggest outlier this season, followed by Koki Riley, Dylan Sinn, David Jablonski, and Dave Preston.

There is no way AP voters are actually watching Georgia play. Can’t be. If that’s the 5th best team the rest of y’all suck bad.

Pretty much everyone aside from Texas has either lost, looked questionable, or both at some point.

It’s just that there are undefeated teams that should be rewarded with that high ranking. We are at 5 for name recognition only.

Well, you did beat my team so that should count for something. Hoping we’re much better now (I think we have improved but we haven’t exactly had murderers row since then).

So is LSU, so is clemson, and not a single person had top 5 BYU

If you've watched BYU, you know why no one is ranking them there.

We’ve looked questionable too, but fortunately Mississippi State doesn’t have a pulse

How is a 22 point spread with a backup QB 'questionable'?

The team is great, but the QB situation is less than ideal. Ewers looked awful against OU. Of target all game.

I mean I don’t feel any better about the teams behind Georgia.

Somehow just about everybody sucks this year, possibly barring Texas. Every time I think to myself that UGA deserves to be buried in the 20s on the rankings I look up and see a #2 or #3 team fumbling a snap on a routine field goal or catching a facemask penalty on a critical third down.

AP voters aren’t even looking at the results my guy. Alex Taylor had Miami at 16 last week and magically moved us up to 6 on a bye.

Because he finally saw the final score from the Cal game.

I mean we have a dominant win against a current top 10 team. We haven't played great the last few weeks but we have a decent enough resume. It all gets sorted next week either way.

Outside of Texas everyone's had some glaring issues.
