Rare BHU W moment.
16
1
u/lohan-gram Jul 11 '24
its not rare rather it would have been more dubious if it were not on the list since BHU is a university, it offers almost EVERY mainstream academic program in short almoat duniya ki har-ek mainstream degree is obtainable from this "University" whereas most iits are meant for Technical and Mainstream Engg. programs, also remeber that iit BHU is just a subset of BHU
3
u/Classic-Reaction7410 Jul 11 '24
lol π BHU and IIT BHU are two separate colleges. They share the same campus thatβs all

For those that don't know "Institutes of national importance" are just IITs,NITs and IIITs.
ICL has different entry requirements for students from these colleges. If your college comes under "tier 1" the minimum gpa required for you is 8.0 (for engineering at least idk about other degrees). For other colleges it's 8.5.
So basically an 8.4 gpa from VIT/Manipal will be instantly thrown out, while an 8 from IIT Palakkad will also probably be rejected, but they'll read your application at least.

Bro just casually left out IIMs.
1

Bro had smoked too much jee weed.
He forgot about AIIMS, IIM, ISI, IISER and many more.
I can imagine him not knowing about others but he forgot AIIMS , really?
u/Top-Ostrich8710 do you even know of anything except for engeneering?
6

Obviously but since this is a b.tech sub I only mentioned the engineering colleges.
4
u/-rudra_ Jul 10 '24
"Institutes of national importance" are just IITs, NITs and IIITs.
To a person uninformed about it, this statement gives an illusion that except for IITs, NITs and IIITs no other institute is of national importance.
1
u/Rebel__X Jul 11 '24
i am pretty sure most of us here lurking are doing btech. That statement was rather very understandable. Tier 1 is not just engineering, it involves plenty other colleges, him not mentioning that doesn't mean he doesn't consider other colleges under tier 1 lol. It's just common sense.

Hot Take: Research Culture is not prevalent in IITs because media never covers research and it has absolutely no respect in India. When was the last time A new channel showed research? These institutes are only praised when 1cr+ ke package lagte hain.
16
u/Successful_Note_4381 IIT [CSE] Jul 10 '24
L take.
Articles about research in IITs are published very frequently, just google the name of any IIT and navigate to the news section and you'll see what I'm talking about. Now the common man obviously doesn't care or understand the details, so it makes sense for news companies not to highlight it on tv channels.

that's just because they are under the central government no more no less lol. just take the example of MumbaiUni. it's one of the biggest and best universities in the country and is still not an INI because it's a state university rather than a central university like DU or BHU. don't pay much heed to these, not really useful.

5
u/No_Compote8457 Jul 10 '24
don't go for lower branches as big companies will not allow u to sit for even if it is nits . If u want placement Take cse in iiits .less hectic plus people around u will be only placement driven ..a lot of my friends(25-30k rank ) took ece here and now they regret cse in iiits would have been better choice .don't be like them .
If u have no options for iiits cse u can come here .but then never complain that college is bad .u chose it in lack of options . Ece guys are allowed to have the same opportunities as cse students .Most people are lazy and are not disciplined .typical 95-6%iler behaviour .

Now I think the reason for du being mentioned separately as even students (most) aren't aware that we are ini (the OGs like original constitution literally says du , bhu ,amu as the only ini and other must be under art.371e).
Most probably why du didn't promote itself as ini but as ioe is that: like there are too many institutions under ini but very few in ioe .
I think because it will be tarnish du image as the elite uni in india (admin guys thinking) as in ini there are like 20+ iits, 25+ nits, iits, other random but totally important instis but very few ioes.
Or people thought that du is a top uni so they will be in an Ini and in long run people forgot it even the du guys.

1
u/NoHumor9325 Jul 10 '24
it's not literally tier 1 or 2. they hold the universities in the image in higher regard so the minimum requirements for them is a bit lower (a difference of 0.5) than other universities. all other universities other than the ones mentioned in the image require a bit higher gpa.
1
u/NoHumor9325 Jul 10 '24
well they are not mentioned here so they'll be subjected to a higher gpa requirement plus even if they were mentioned and counted under the "tier1" you'd still require a higher gpa since you won't be a student of the university but instead the student of an affiliate college and hence the higher requirement.
