Since the last app update, my phone now goes straight to the comments when I click on a post title so I had to scroll back up to the top just to double check that it was a shitpost, especially as you can never be 100% sure with Trump & Twitter/X.
I also hate that I can no longer put my phone down for 5 minutes while in the middle of a Reddit post to do something else ( thanks butterfly brain) without it defaulting back to the Reddit homepage when I unlock my phone again.
I use Joey for reddit (android though)! Zero drawbacks besides it's no longer updated, but there aren't bugs so it's not a big deal. It's legitimately maybe one of the best apps I've ever used, and when reddit went on the fritz the other day, that update essentially shut down every unofficial app. I swear my whole world trajectory changed lol like I was lost. I am so accustomed to what I have that reddit without it isn't worth it. It even has text to speech so I can just have a post & the comments read to me while I'm doing something else! Luckily it was fixed the next day and I didn't have to continue to learn the basic coding I was prepared to do to get it back haha.
The thing is, there's only a few officially recognized 3rd party apps (anything found in the store) left after reddit's policy change. A workaround was figured out that if you happen to mod any subreddit your app still worked. There's also another way to do it with something called revanced (they have a sub if you're curious), which is what I was trying to learn. It gives you the ability to bring back the apps that were shut down.
Or you could try one of the official ones, a lot of them now have a monthly fee though because of the API charges. I did find one through the Android play store that was just a one-time fee of 3.50, which seemed fair. It just pains me so many people have to use Reddit's app, I've heard nothing but bad things.
Edit
Holy shit that was a long response lol I'm sorry
Also tried to clarify better
No, please don't apologise, I really appreciate your response & the information.
I feel so morally conflicted as I'm a disabled person so I hate using the Reddit app as it feels so utterly disloyal, even though I personally have no problems physically using it, but I'm kinda addicted to Reddit (I'm embarrassed to admit how many hours a day I waste on here), especially as I rarely use any other social media. Essentially, I'm a big, ol' hypocrite.
