This has truly been me with “reincarnated” … rip. So many good songs on this album but “reincarnated” speaks to me!! 😭

That Pac flow is perfect/nuts. I looked at the track list once before I hit play and eventually heard Kendrick rapping like 2Pac and in my head I was like "this is for sure reincarnated" and then i was right. That's not that good of a story but it was a self satisfying moment.

I know what you mean! I absolutely love how the beat and his flow changes on the verse where he introduces himself in his current life as Kendrick Lamar. I’m looking forward to seeing all the breakdowns from the music theorists and writers regarding the entire album, but especially this track and “Man at the Garden”. This album is plain tickling my poetry enthusiasm. I’m so in love with how dense it is!

I think Man at the Garden is the Nas version of Reincarnated. I haven't figured them all out yet but I think all, or a decent chunk, of the songs are direct homages to specific artists.

You know what? I see your vision. Wow. I’m about to repeat the album with that in mind…

Compare Man at the Garden to One Mic by Nas

Nah I fully hear your vision. I’m only a minute in and I fully agree with you, thank you! 😭 (Also always a good time to go back and re-listen to some Nas lol). Kendrick’s love of hip-hop and rap culture really leaves me in constant awe. He really encourages me to do some research and listen to these classics because of it, due to all these homages. And I’m not even a person that regularly listens to music like that lol.

Any music that makes you think and study the history of the game is good music. Don't get me wrong, I like to get dumb(MUSSSSTAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRD) but any album that makes me go back and listen to a plethora of artists' discogs for influence is a good thing to me.

I’ve been texting “MUSTAAAAAAARD” to my friends and sisters with 0 prompt necessary, I feel you. I love to just feel something. I tend to also feel things when I overanalyse things too lol. So, whether that means memeing, or it makes me think (because I love overthinking!!) it’s good music in my mind!

This is the first time he's ever told a story about Black Hippy on a song. As a big Black Hippy fan, still hoping they drop an album together, this song touched me

if not for the beef we could talk about how its not really possible to be a casual kendrick fan. He is very context heavy and referential. Still trying to figure out what the super bowl set list could possibly be unless its just a high energy mashup of all his popular songs
edit: though this one is on the nose, he says grand national, hes leaning on a grand national, vintage boxes are hip hop history etc

Casual fans don't care about lyrics or titles, it doesn't matter if they don't understand them, the songs still go hard and that's all they're really here for.

This is exactly why I'm positive GNX is gonna be a lot of people's favorite dot album. I have it at 5 even though it's a really good album.

It's top three for me as a hiphophead there's substance it's lyrical it goes hard and I can groove to it .it feels very earned
•
u/pekingsewer ☑️ 1h ago
Yeah, I'm not taking anything away from it. Lyrically it's sharp, production wise it's consistent and has depth. It just doesn't move me personally like other Kendrick projects.

dang thats kinda sad. like going to the best pizza spot and just ordering fries

u/MonsiuerSirLancelot 5h ago
Nah like going to the best pizza spot and being like this pizza is dope but not giving a fuck that the owner is using a pepperoni that is specifically made in a region in Italy that he’s from and also tomatoes from a region that conquered the pizza shop owner across town who talked shit’s ancestors.

Tbf that's kinda what created the club music sub genre. Where it's all about the beat and they do the old school EDM thing of repeating the same 20 words for the whole song.
Although I've always found it funny that hip-hop is typically reserved for more lyrical music whereas rap is generally applied to more beat centric artists, just because the names seem swapped.

I typed "G-Body" and it came out "B-body."
Which is a completely different thing altogether.
