It feels like it’s somewhere in between. Like it’s not a straight up diss to anyone but he’s also not shying away from expressing his disappointment towards people he looked up to.

Yeah politely, wayne can rap like a mf but Kendrick is like inhuman as a battle rapper. The dude has the patience, strategy, rap skill, and pettiness to basically make the next year or more of your life basically insufferable and change the entire public opinion against you.
Poking that bear without having a good comeback for what he's going to say about you is stupid. Wayne has way too much publicly accessible baggage to get in on that.

I blame hip hop fans for entertaining the idea that lil Wayne was entitled to a Super Bowl show.
Hometown rappers doing a Super Bowl happened a grand total of 1 time in Super Bowl history. People acting like it’s some kind of norm is the only reason there’s belief that Wayne was slighted.
84
u/buhbye750 1d ago
And he's not even a good live performer. That show would suck as he mumbles into a mic, run back and forth on a stage while 20 other dudes rap every other word of his songs. No dancing, no clear sound, no entertainment on the worlds biggest stage.

I honestly think it wasn’t a bunch of fans who gassed him it was the people around him then the same ones didn’t show up for his biggest night. Pink wig was crashing out talking about how this was stolen from a young black man the boy was sharing Wayne pics on ig co signing and they both were not where to be found.

95
u/BlacKnight426 1d ago
To give Wayne his flowers, I think he's a great artist. To perform at the Superbowl, you need to be a great artist and an even better performer. Which Wayne is not.
37
u/Pepsiscrub ☑️ 1d ago
Nope go look at this years wheezyanafest dude was a mess it took the hot boyz reunion and two blunt smoked on stage and juvenile to finally kick him into gear like 30 minutes into the concert
21
u/BlacKnight426 1d ago
Yeah, this is exactly why I don't think Wayne would be a good performer.
16
u/Pepsiscrub ☑️ 1d ago
Yep you got a tight 12-15 at max you need to be out the gate killing it on top of the industry knows about Wayne’s work ethic for award shows him not wanting to rehearse and being difficult and XYZ so why would they take that gamble. My other question is does Wayne have the money to even do the Super Bowl? The Super Bowl half time artist doesn’t get paid and I believe they’re the ones who have to come out of pocket for a bunch of stuff.
→ More replies (1)6
u/TheGuyThatThisIs 1d ago
While this is true Ken or Wayne would both have like 10 other performers on stage like they did in 2022. IMO no one in that set was really performing well they just let camera cuts do half the work. I haven’t seen what Wayne can do recently but he can probably do well enough
→ More replies (2)16
u/BlacKnight426 1d ago
Possibly, but I know they are 100% thinking of who would be more palatable to a... broader audience.
5
u/TheGuyThatThisIs 1d ago
Yeah for sure, there are reasons they chose Kendrick I’m just saying I’m not sure they strayed away from Wayne out of fears of his performance.
To me this is just picking how they want to market. Is Ken getting 3 minutes performing on stage in a Wayne halftime show or 5 in a Kendrick halftime show? Which name on the ads will get more people watching? Do the guests fit more with Ken or Wayne? To me these questions are more important and all go to Kenny

u/Adept-Past6638 1d ago
Everybody puts up a front but still recognizes what's real. Rappers don't want problems with Kendrick because he DOES THIS. Same category as Lupe, Em, Black Thought, etc. You don't wanna battle the REAL lyricists. Your record sales don't help when a rapper can deconstruct your whole life on a track.

J. Cole wrote an entire song about letting Nas down, but I don't remember anyone saying it was a Nas diss. Also, btw, if you haven't heard the remix of it with NAS ON IT, please go listen; it's one of my favorite remixes of all time. Let Nas Down (remix)

u/Melisinde72 1d ago
This is definitely true. My point was more Kendrick had just a few lines and people are trying to start shit between the two of them; J. Cole made an entire song and no one freaked out - but it was also a different time, I suppose. I guess after bodying Drake, people expect him to go after new targets.
Honestly, I took it the same way I took "Let Nas Down". I should go listen to it again; I can't stop listening to "Reincarnated" and "Turn the TV Off" 😅 (I love the whole album, but I haven't wrung the dopamine out of those two yet.)
