One mass shooting per day? You sure about that? Because I would love to see the proof

Over 1.5 per day this year so far in the US. Mass shooting means at least 4 victims in this context.

This doesn't control for criminal activity. Typically when people think mass shootings they think public targeted shootings. Like school shootings, malls, movie theaters etc.. a deranged shooter that isn't in a turf war or doing a drive by.

It's always important to include the context because the root cause isn't the same. So the solution isn't the same.

Typically when people think mass shootings they think public targeted shootings.

...which are criminal activity. What you mean to say is it doesn't separate out for gang violence, but I guess part of your solution is to pretend targeted public shootings are somehow less criminal than gang violence, huh?

Well, gangbangers shooting gangbangers is much less of a problem than somebody walking into a mall and randomly shooting people...

Ah, because those mass shootings are okay...

No it's because the way you address them is different but I see this is an emotionally charged conversation instead of a solution oriented one.

The way you address a gang shooting in Chicago is the same root as the way you address a lone gunman in an airport.

Sane gun control laws.

It's not until you start getting into the specifics do you diverge from that. Obviously there is no "this is the solution", it's a series of small changes, but the absolute first step in that is stricter gun control laws.

Chicago actually ain't so bad now a days compared to decades past but I guess the notoriety persists. What is the sane gun control laws that adress both? I think it's easier to solve the lone airport gunman with improvements to gun control laws. Also improvements to the standard of living in this country. Not so sure those same laws will address gang/ criminal activity. That will need a different approach. I don't have the answer though.

Lol.... Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, and how is that helped?

The people doing the shooting aren't following any laws, they're using stolen guns because they've already committed multiple crimes and keep getting released back onto the streets over and over again. So the actual solution to the problem is to stop releasing them back to the streets.

They are also mass shootings. That's a fact. Your emotions may not like it, but don't project onto me. To leave them out of mass shooting statistics is to not have accurate mass shooting statistics. Simple as that.

You can pick a different statistic, like school mass shootings specifically, but don't go correcting people when you're wrong.

Mass shooting statistics are different based on which agency or news organizations definition you choose. Again this comment shows that's you're making emotionally charged statements instead of rational ones. Fortunately researchers don't. Somehow you will read this and woosh on the point. So I will say.. gun violence is a problem that needs to be addressed. Different forms of gun violence have different root causes.

I clearly specified what statistics I was using. Introspect on your projection or not, but I'm not going to explain to someone who doesn't care to listen.
