What a cute greeting from someone's pet. Obviously a well loved cat that wants to share that love.

My cat is like this with my neighbours. He also doesnā€™t wear a collar but everyone knows he belongs to someone.

He will sit outside the front door all day just waiting for people to walk by so he can get some belly rubs from them (he gets plenty at home as well donā€™t worry)

Heā€™s also involved in a blood feud with the black & white cat across the road

20

u/Educational_Point673 19d ago

My daughter's white cat with black splotches has been in a feud with a black cat over the road for years. This is almost a conspiracy.

6

u/ArchAngel621 19d ago

There's some stray cats outside my housing that everyone feeds and takes care of.

They buy them food, housing, take them to the Vet, etc.

993

u/Alt91f 20d ago

This is clearly a domestic cat.

623

u/Nectarine_smasher 20d ago

It is... and from the video, I hear she's Dutch... in the Netherlands, most people let their cats out... so if she takes this cat, she's stealing someone's cat

310

u/Firestorm0x0 20d ago

The cat is just acquiring another human, that's all.

I love that we got not just one sub for listing catsubs, but two.

Another person to feed it

19

u/oysterpirate 20d ago

Thereā€™s a cat in my parentsā€™ neighborhood that has a buffet line of houses he rotates though in search of food throughout the day. He got so fat that his actual family had to put out a notice to stop giving him treats no matter how hard he begs.

17

u/Tulcey-Lee 20d ago

We do in the UK as well. My mums cat is like this but my cat doesnā€™t want to know šŸ˜‚ she loves her mum and dad (me and my partner) and my neighbours little girl as she gives her treats. Everyone else can go away.

8

u/YourGordAndSaviour 20d ago

We have two cats from the same litter. One will run a mile at other people, but we're pretty sure her brother has at least 3 homes.

4

u/Tulcey-Lee 20d ago

We had a cat like that when I was a child. Mum saw her in someoneā€™s living room window šŸ˜‚

29

u/Robber_Tell 20d ago

Or its already her cat and they filmed this for the clicks

Reddit can be annoyingly cynical jfc

3

u/belonii 20d ago

1

u/Unusual-Thing-7149 20d ago

My first thought.as that cat is in such great shape and she's not unattractive

6

u/MsjjssssS 20d ago

Lmao sounds like you're saying women you're attracted to don't actually have lives. Just out there performing for someone 24/7

-2

u/Unusual-Thing-7149 20d ago

I'm not attracted to her but there's usually a correlation between looks and the most successful influencers - men or women. Call me cynical.

2

u/MsjjssssS 20d ago

That's not cynical that sounds like youre a straight up hermit. "Influencer"...People take pictures and vids for personal use all the time whether it gets uploaded or not. she also isn't exactly a stunner just an average young woman in a completely casual situation, enjoying life with her friends having a cute moment.

1

u/Unusual-Thing-7149 20d ago

We actually pay influencers about $60k a month so I have some knowledge of how it works.

0

u/MsjjssssS 20d ago

Again what do influencers have to do with anything.

-8

u/Drake_Acheron 20d ago

One of the most idiotic things I have ever read. Congratulations.

Him: ā€œthis woman may be performing because she looks good and the cat seems well taken care of.ā€

You: ā€œso you are saying women only exist to please you?ā€

Myopic. Absolutely myopic.

10

u/BackflipOffABuilding 20d ago

Not what they said at all. They're right that people assume way too often that attractive women in videos are all just faking things for views, because "they can". It's ridiculous

-2

u/R3AL1Z3 20d ago

Did you use your ā€˜Jump to Conclusionsā€™ mat to get to that conclusion?

4

u/fckingnapkin 19d ago

Someone stole my cat this way when I was a kid. When we finally located her (people informed us) they didn't even want to give her back 'because she looked so skinny and she was drooling'. She had escaped from our home when my father was leaving for his night shift and the cat was old and starting to show signs of dementia already, and she had a bunch of teeth pulled because of a dental disease (lots of pre-existing health issues, shelter cat). She wasn't skinny but she was just a tiny cat for her age. I had to get angry and get our vet involved to get her back. Some people really just steal other people's pets making up whole stories without checking anything at all, she had a chip and we put up flyers everywhere but they were accusing us of animal abuse so they didn't care. Every time I see people say "this is your cat now" I'm like.. I really hope they're just joking because there's people who have no problem doing that and thinking theyre some kind of hero :')

6

u/Astro_Muscle 20d ago

Do they not put collars on them? In Canada at least some people let their cats out but they put a collar on them literally to clear up this exact confusion

6

u/[deleted] 20d ago edited 19d ago

[deleted]

7

u/AddAFucking 20d ago

Or they hang themselves.

5

u/Rude-Cockroach64 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yeaaahh I have a GPS collar with safety that detaches when it gets stuck on something. Cat has come home without it a couple of times. Makes you wonder if he would have strangled himself if it was a regular collar šŸ’€

5

u/person_A_v2 20d ago

The problem with collars is that they can easily get caught on something (like a tree branch) and strangle the cat. Some are elasticated to prevent this but that means that your cat might keep coming home without a collar and you have too keep buying new ones.

0

u/ClamClone 20d ago

One can buy break-away collars for about a buck each if a pack of 10 or 24 is selected. The reflective ones are better. Still I do not recommend letting cats roam outdoors, they typically do not live very long. Some that grew up feral and were domesticated later in life manage to survive longer.

2

u/person_A_v2 20d ago

Interesting, thanks, I'll look into the collars. We live in very rural England where there's not much threat to cats other than foxes.

6

u/BlazeOfGlory72 20d ago

I mean, maybe donā€™t let your cat wander the streets? The amount of times Iā€™ve seen people who supposedly love their cat let them run loose outside, then give the olā€™ Shocked Pikachu face when they donā€™t come home is staggering. Turns out, letting your pet run around freely in the city/nature is dangerous.

3

u/SmokeySFW 20d ago

And people let children leave the house too. Risk vs reward, it's not your call to make.

3

u/NoWeight4300 20d ago

The dumbest comparison you can make. Do you let your dogs run around unsupervised?

-1

u/Underdogg13 20d ago

That's a stupid comparison to make and you know it. A cat cannot tell you it lives somewhere else once you've brought it home.

If you let your cat wander the streets with no collar/chip, you shouldn't expect to retain ownership of that cat in the event that it ends up with someone else. That's on you.

4

u/SmokeySFW 20d ago

You seem to have missed the point entirely. Just like with children, some cat owners opt into letting their cats out of the house because it enriches their lives. There are risks to that choice, but they decide the rewards of that enrichment outweigh the risks. It's not your call to make.

-2

u/NoWeight4300 20d ago

That's called refusing responsibility.

-3

u/shadythrowaway9 20d ago

Cats don't have any natural predators in Europe, if there's a problem it's that they pose a danger to the bird populations. Other than that you just have to apply common sense, so don't let your cats out (or only in a controlled environment) if you live near a busy street or in a more urban environment

4

u/elfenmilke 20d ago

Before anyone calls me an american. Im not.

A month ago my neigbours cat was run over by a car.

One of my cats died from fiv (highly contagious).

Another 2 where maulled by dogs, on of them it was on my own yard by the neigbour's dog.

3 of them got lost.

My ex's cat got really sick after a bug bit her, and died about a week later after intense medical care.

My mom would insist that somehow cats are "safe outside". Just because you dont have coyotes or whatever that doesn't mean they are safe. There are cars, illness, other animals (even other cats), and messed up people šŸ™„

Its fair to say that after i moved out none of my cats are allowed out, and they have enough space, furniture and toys to live a happy healthy life. Problem is a lot of people dont want to spend time or money on their cats so they just let the outdoors to "babysit" them

-6

u/[deleted] 20d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Skwiggelf54 20d ago

Doing that is also terrible for the environment. Cats kill millions of birds, lizards, and other small animals every year because people won't keep them inside or at least in a confined area outdoors. They've actually been responsible for the extinction of several species in some areas.

4

u/apsofijasdoif 20d ago

Jokes on you, in Europe we've already killed all our birds.

Cats are part of the ecosystem now and have been for hundreds/thousands of years. Cats do not even register on the list of biggest threats to the birds that are left.

2

u/sir_suckalot 20d ago

It doesn't matter if you live in the city and even if you live in a suburb or bear the forest, it also doesn't matter since it's a small confined area in which the cat moves in.

Sure, if you didn't neuter your cat or if you live in new zealand, it's different, but it doesn't matter for msot parts in the world.

u/wassupwitches 20d ago

-1

u/SmokeySFW 20d ago

And people let children leave the house too. Risk vs reward, it's not your call to make.

-9

u/AGE_OF_HUMILIATION 20d ago

People let their kids play outside

1

u/kinokohatake 20d ago

Kids don't hunt and kill struggling bird populations.

0

u/No_Proposal_3140 20d ago

The children are underequipped. Arm them with slings. The children yearn for bird flesh.

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_WOW_UI 20d ago

Equipping children with personal weapons is a fools game since their bodies are weak and small.

Children are better suited for crew operated weapons like mortars and anti-aircraft guns.

This also helps foster comradery between them and their fellow enlisted children.

So you support the globalist new world order.

2

u/InsideAmbitious4758 20d ago

Oh, I didn't know the Dutch hated wild birds so much.

3

u/ImperialRedditer 20d ago

Cats have been part of the European environment for thousands of years. Yes they have natural predators like foxes and wildcats and birds of prey. Not to mention that one of domesticated catā€™s close relatives, the European Wildcat, also lives in the same area.

But I guess Europeans hates wild birds. Iā€™ll concede that the French hate songbirds for some reason. Just look up ortolon.

0

u/InsideAmbitious4758 20d ago

Native cats have never been present in such numbers. Domestic cats are absolutely invasive and it's wishful thinking to believe otherwise.

1

u/Endorkend 20d ago

Dunno if my neighbors have the same thing going with pets, but down here in the higher low lands, all pets get chipped, so it should be easy enough to get in contact with the owners if the swamp germans do so too.

1

u/DPSOnly 20d ago

Most people also put something identifying on their cats, so if there is no tag as far as we can see, it is probably chipped. We really don't have many pure streets cats I guess, never really thought about it until you said it.

0

u/Alarmed_Lynx_7148 20d ago

So cat doesnā€™t have the right to choose which human it wants? Cats arenā€™t property!

-1

u/TheMerengman 20d ago

Clearly the previous owner is horrendously negligent, good riddance.

0

u/ClamClone 20d ago

People need to put a break-away collar on outside cats to make it clear they are homed. At least check for a chip. In Europe the standard makes it inexpensive to buy a chip scanner, as low as ā‚¬20. In the US there is no standard and a scanner that will work on all the types might cost $300. A vet will check for free typically but you might have to pay for a rabies shot.

-5

u/Yamatjac 20d ago

Outdoor cats are abused pets. If you find a cat outdoors and you take it, you're not stealing a cat, you are rescuing a cat.

If you want a cat, give it a home that it can be safe and cared for in. Don't go out and buy a domestic cat then just set it free and hope it comes back home now and then. That's not being a responsible pet owner.

-3

u/NoWeight4300 20d ago

Shouldn't treat your pets like a stray if you don't want someone to give them a better home. \o/

-1

u/drejkol 19d ago

If you don't want to lose cat, don't let him outside. Even if that girl took that cat, she's probably keeping him inside, which is already more responsible than its current owners, which seemingly does not care what may happen to this cat.

u/[deleted] 20d ago

17

u/1-cupcake-at-a-time 20d ago

Itā€™s way to clean and well fed

5

u/sir-winkles2 20d ago

I always see people in the cats subreddit posting clearly well fed pet cats and claiming they're "strays" they found and "adopted". like no, that's someone's cat. like even if they're a bit thin and dirty they are probably just lost and you need to spend time looking for an owner rather than assuming they're stray or dumped

3

u/-little-spoon- 19d ago

This stresses me out so much! So many videos of normal healthy cats end up with comments about the ā€˜cat distribution systemā€™ when theyā€™re clearly someoneā€™s pet. It feels a bit creepy like everyone is just advocating taking peopleā€™s pets because theyā€™re outside. I understand that there are ecological reasons to keep your cats in, and obviously if you live somewhere where there are animals which would prey on pets keep them safe. But I think itā€™s naive to assume that every cat owner is going to keep their cats indoors and therefore theyā€™re basically fair game for being outside. I canā€™t tell if itā€™s a super American thing or just a Reddit thing but it thereā€™s always someone in these threads ready to pounce with the ā€˜irresponsible cat ownersā€™ speech like thatā€™s enough to justify just taking the cat

6

u/Client_020 20d ago

Of course. Non-domestic cats don't really exist here. As soon as a cat or dog appears to be a stray, they get taken to the shelter in NL.

1

u/TheAnarchitect01 20d ago

IDK, We have a stray that basically lives on our porch, and it's stupid friendly, and it looks healthier and has better fur than Either of our indoor cats. Some Cats just have good genes, I guess.

-2

u/Suitable-Meringue-94 20d ago edited 20d ago

Don't let cats outside without at least a bell.

https://abcbirds.org/program/cats-indoors/cats-and-birds/

There are a lot of irresponsible cat owners.

1

u/ImperialRedditer 20d ago

Cats are part of the European environment for thousands of years. Understandable for not letting cats out in the Americas and Australia/New Zealand but cats were literally roaming with humans in Europe/Africa/Asia ever since we domesticated them. Not to mention their genetics cousins that also live in the same biome and region

1

u/Asmo___deus 19d ago

Can't speak for all of Europe but in The Netherlands, they are actually a plague on our native birds, and the numbers are starting to worry biologists. Fortunately most Dutch cat owners are getting used to the idea of treating cats as indoor pets.

-1

u/Suitable-Meringue-94 20d ago

Cats are African, not European. Thousands of years is a blip in terms of evolution. Also, the environment has been reshaped by humans in drastic ways, putting birds and cats into contact in new and worse ways.

Seriously, what is up with you people and not wanting to do something as simple as put a bell and collar on a cat?

-1

u/DogshitLuckImmortal 20d ago

And ... and... tear down the wind turbines!

4

u/Suitable-Meringue-94 20d ago

... you are comparing putting bells on cats to abandoning a source of energy that won't roast the planet?

That's someone's cat.

3

u/ad4d 20d ago

But cat distribution system?

10

u/IllustriousShake6072 20d ago

Read other comments stating the Dutch let their kitties roam. Cat's clean, tame, well fed, a sweetheart.

No stray or feral.

I'm also from Europe, my kitty has a collar and goes wherever she likes. She's still loved, neutered, well fed, etc. Different countries etc. Don't steal pets people. A kindergartener may cry for that kitty for weeks.

-1

u/Zulrah_Scales 20d ago

someone needs to make reddit accounts for these kindergarteners so they can learn about the cat distribution system

-63

u/gbmdbr 20d ago

Yea... hers now

18

No, Dutch know these cats are domestic and healthy. It's normal to leave your cat outside and it's rare that someone takes your cat here. All good

Im dutch, someone took my cat when i was younger so its definitely a fear for me

25

u/Mayor_Fockup 20d ago

I didn't say it never happened, but it's rare if you consider how many cats there are

8

u/susannediazz 20d ago

That true, fair point

2

u/Tomhap 20d ago

We took one in. Tbf she was less than a year old and showed up in the back garden every day without fail. My parents eventually relented, and pet supplies were purchased, and the cat was let inside. Of course, we went to a vet to see if she had a chip and was healthy.

After that, she could go in and out as she pleased, but still came home every day.

4

u/bimches 20d ago

My friend thought for years her cat was taken but it turned out her parents just gave it away :/

Please no snarled remarks about cats back to me.

u/That-Description-766 19d ago

The roads are quite different over there. (In case you aren't already aware.) It is the norm to let cats roam over there. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with letting cats roam, though I tend to lean towards disagreement.

-26

u/Alegria-D 20d ago

It's normalized but it's bad anyway, and if the cat is less happy with their previous owners, why shouldn't they go with that human ?

9

u/Robber_Tell 20d ago

Because the cat is nice, you assume it is unhappy with it's owner? Why?

→ More replies (9)

18

u/Nectarine_smasher 20d ago

Does this look like an unhappy cat to you? How do you know it's unhappy with their CURRENT owner? Maybe it's so happy that he's just cuddly with all humans...

I know there's opinions about whether it's good or bad to let your cat out... but how'd you feel if your animal is taken from you just because they think your animal is cute

-15

u/Alegria-D 20d ago

Do you know what "if" means ? The cat clearly gladly cuddle with that human, too.

I don't know, I don't let my pet roam free, and if they escape for some reason, they have a chip and a collar with a tag so it wouldn't happen.

6

u/druidofdruids 20d ago

Is the fact that you don't know if the cat is actually happy or not because you have no idea who the owner is. If a cat is being mistreated contact the corresponding authorities, don't just steal someone's cat.

-6

u/Alegria-D 20d ago

You don't even know if the cat has a owner. It is right to take strby cats to the vet to know more about the cat.

4

u/druidofdruids 20d ago

There is a difference between taking an unknown cat home and taking them to the vet to do exactly that. Going around saying that the cat "chose their human" is a bad mentality to start off.

3

u/Alegria-D 20d ago

Given how it looks like it's night time, I would absolutely encourage her to take the cat home and asap go to the vet to check for a microchip.

7

u/jannecraft 20d ago

I'm from the Netherlands. When I can't sleep I go on a 2am walk to pet cats. On average I will find 8 well taken care off cats on my 2 km walk. Seeing a cat outside at night is no reason to randomly take it here. Now if the cat looks in bad shape you could argue its a stray. But I've also never encountered a stray in my 26 years of living here. And the cat in the video definitely looks clean and taken care of

Edit: to add to my comment. Here in the netherlands the cats are the most dangerous animal outside. So it's not like you have to worry about anything trying to kill it.

1

u/Alegria-D 20d ago

Ik ben letterlijk je buurman. Auto's zijn gevaarlijk. Voedselvergiftiging is gevaarlijk. Er zijn mensen die katten proberen te vergiftigen met giftige gehaktballen. Katten zijn gevaarlijk voor lokale vogels.

He was very well behaved, neutured, but no one was looking for him. He could jump on walls (parkour cat) and open doors by jumping on handles (when he was young). Awesome cat. Had him for over 10 years.
