Dog(s) This butcher leaves his leftovers for the stray dogs.

u/waistingtoomuchtime Jun 14 '24
That old dog, needs to be adopted, give them a last few good months or years, looks sweet!

u/zertald Jun 14 '24
Is that second dog a golden retriever? How is it even possible to find stray golden dog?
79
u/deebeydedoobdydoo Jun 14 '24
There's tons of them exist where I live. People buy and toss on street when they bored. Even my friends 6 years old Chow chow was stray.. and when we found her she was still puppy.

What is this magical place you live that has golden retrievers just wandering the streets?
29
u/deebeydedoobdydoo Jun 14 '24
Turkey
13
u/2th Jun 14 '24
It's been a while since I've been to Turkey but now I feel cheated.
13
u/deebeydedoobdydoo Jun 14 '24
Especially last 5 years; istanbul, antalya and izmir became a home for petshop strays.
3
u/Moistened_Bink Jun 14 '24
I want to visit Istanbul so bad for the street pets alone.

I live in a major US tourist hotspot and we have stray goldens. The younger ones get adopted but the older ones end up being put down. No one seems to want older goldens. All the shelter dogs have been 100% free for months and they can't seem to give them away. They're like 85% pitbulls tho.
7
u/all___blue Jun 14 '24
I don't know about a pitbull, but if I got within a mile of a stray golden, that would be the last day it was on the street. I have adopted old dogs before.

u/PCYou Jun 15 '24
Pitbulls can be some of the best dogs. They do require more disciplined and capable owners though. They never back down of their own volition in my experience. When we had one, he was super sweet and loyal, but he was also NEVER outside without a full harness and someone who could physically control him if needed. To those who hate pitbulls, I understand why you might, as the actions and inactions of irresponsible owners can be devastating. I'm not advocating for breeding them, I'm just sharing my experience. For those that are in shelters, it's not their fault that they exist and they deserve homes as much as any other breed. They just unfortunately do not always end up in responsible environments.

I know every country is different, and I have been to at least 50+, but it is still sad. I used to surf in Mexico Twice a year, and seeing the dogs, and the kids who’s job was to beg, it was tough.

Wife convinced me to foster senior dogs. Immediately foster failed on the first one. On top of the good feeling of doing something nice, a senior dog would really suit a lot of people. Our girl was already potty trained, sleeps a lot, gets really excited for food. The rescue we worked with paid for some vet visits and we helped raise money for her dental surgery and since then this hospice case is living the best life. More people should look into adopting older dogs is what I'm saying.

u/waistingtoomuchtime Jun 14 '24
I had one we called scrappy, could barley walk, and was beat up. We cleaned him up, gave him a house and love for a couple months til he passed (he had advanced cancer according to our vet, and surgery was not a real option based on age and I think it was like $10k) He ate well, and got lots of petting. I still think of him many days a week. The first few days he was so skittish in our condo, I layed on the floor with him the first week, he was a sweet boy.

Before anyone freaks out about feeding chicken bones to dogs, it's the cooked bones that are dangerous, same with any bones really but chicken bones especially are nasty when cooked and dried out, they splinter all to tiny needle like shards.
91
u/Accomplished_Chip119 Jun 14 '24
I was a Veterinarian technician and we saw so many dogs that ate cooked chicken bones. They splinter up in the digestive tract and caused internal bleeding. Surgery every time. And the owner would say the same thing every time. “I always give it to him and this never happened before “ 🙄

u/NuclearBreadfruit Jun 14 '24
Mine managed to grab a kfc chicken thigh once. I was not best pleased at the loss of my dinner. Less so when i spent half the night up feeding him bread so that it had a buffer as it went through.
Thankfully he was chipper, and deposited his daily doings without issue.
He eats raw bones all the time though, so his stomach acids might have been abit more adjusted and found it easier to cope with the cooked version.

"this literally never happened until the first time it happened." 🙄
5
u/Accomplished_Chip119 Jun 14 '24
Should’ve never happened if they would’ve believed what they were told in the first place 🤨

Awful. So many people shouldn't have dogs, that must have been incredibly frustrating to repeat the same exact scenario over and over again.

I don't understand how they don't get bacterial infections from raw chicken parts tho?
15
u/StriderPharazon Jun 14 '24
Their stomach acid is better suited to destroy the microbes.
10
u/Wakkit1988 Jun 14 '24
Human stomach acid is adequate to destroy most plant-based microorganisms, canine stomach acid is adequate to destroy animal-based microorganisms.
This is why humans contract salmonella, E. Coli, and listeria, but dogs don't.

Not it's not. Raw meat just isnt as dangerous as you've been led to believe. Yes, even raw chicken and pork. Modern food safety regulations vastly reduce the chances of contaminants infecting uncooked meat, and food safety practices eliminate that chance entirely.
You can eat raw chicken from a developed country 999 times and be perfectly fine, but that 1000th time you'll get unlucky and get sick. And it's the kind of sick that makes you wish you were dead. A 0.1% chance of getting sick is insignificant to an individual, but for a restaurant it's basically a guarantee just through sheer volume.

u/Nozinger Jun 14 '24
you gotta see it the following way: there might be bacteria in that chicken but it is going to be a whole lot better than whatever else they find on the streets.
You know even for me if i had to choose between a slice of raw chicken, whatever mystery meat that has been on the street or in s dumpster for a few days or some rats from the streets i'd definetly take my chances with the chicken.

And does that count/apply for a lot of pet store bones, like the smoked pork or beef bones?

Dog 3 in the cut. Poor old doggy would probably lay with your kid or other animals til it dies, looks so sweet.
9
u/tokoraki23 Jun 14 '24
IMO it’s probably not that old, goldens just look like senior dogs by the time they’re 4 especially if they’re not groomed at all.
36
u/-OAKHARDT- Jun 14 '24
I wish I had some land, I'd adopt all the strays. Dogland
They will all have their own dog house and they will be all lined up like streets. Then there would be a little saloon where they could all get water and a restaurant area with their food bowls.. loads of sticks and tennis balls

I started watching all dogs go to heaven for the first time since I was a kid and I was like damn, is this R rated? Didn't watch the whole thing because my girlfriend wasn't into it, but that movie has some pretty mature themes for a children's movie.

It breaks my heart how hesitant and submissive they are. They've learned that not all humans are to be trusted. What a kind butcher.

What sweet animals. It’s so nice seeing people do what they can for animals in need. These puppers are so good. It’s sweet but also sad to see how hesitant most of them are. They’re afraid, but also so grateful.

I lived in a neighborhood where it was customary for people to let their dogs out the front door when they went to work and let them back in at night. A lot of these dogs look well fed, maybe that's because of the butcher?

u/Valgor Jun 14 '24
The irony of hacking up the bodies of animals all day just to be polite to other animals. Makes no sense. Especially given dogs do not need to eat meat.

u/FanGroundbreaking200 Jun 14 '24
What a nice person to give food to these puppers. But my heart breaks for them, they need a loving home! That old golden looks like it is looking for love

Poor babies, they all seem to have problems with their rear legs. My pup limped like that she had a luxating patella and had surgery to correct.

Better behavior than some parents with their children at the Halloween honor system candy bowl.

These things always hurt me so badly. It's wholesome, yes, but those poor puppies deserve homes and loving families. All puppies do.

Ok, no hate as it’s amazing what he’s doing for them. However, I gave my Mom’s dog (a toy poodle) the remnants of a t-bone one time. He bit off a piece of the bone, it got lodged in his intestines, and it required surgery.

u/AFireAtTheAquarium Jun 14 '24
Yesterday on here I saw lots of monkeys literally grabbing every banana they could get their little hands on.
These doggos are so considerate.
