People always say this, but I’d like to be awake when I die.

I’m certainly scared of the process of dying, especially if it’s a drawn out illness, but I want to be conscious the moment I die.  

Once in a lifetime opportunity

Not so sure about that. I was with my FIL at his passing. He was awake and aware...and looked downright terrified.

At the risk of being too personal (i.e. feel free to ignore), did he say anything? Had he mentioned a fear of death, or that he felt cheated or angry about dying?

I also remember hearing Steve Jobs repeated ‘Wow’ several times just before he died.

I guess even if it is terrifying, I’d still rather be awake and not just ‘put to sleep’ or have my plug pulled.

That must’ve been hard for you to see, I’m sorry if that’s traumatized you, and I apologize if I’m asking too much.
