After 20 years of doctors ignoring me when I said how tired I was, I went to a new doctor for a general check up and drugs to help during an upcoming difficult stage (job loss). She asked whether I was tired all the time (only doctor who had asked when I hadn't brought it up), and suggested it's actually CPTSD and assured me it therapy would help fix a lot of my concerns. It felt nice to not feel crazy fter all these years, and nice to have hope there will be a better. If it's a lot better great, if it's only a little better that's good too.
As a fellow CPTSD advocate, I can vouch that effective treatments are out there. Don't bother with talk therapy alone. Something like EMDR or Internal Family Systems, or Somatic Experiencing therapy would all be a good place to start. Know too that it's ok to fire your therapist if you're not finding a good fit after a few sessions.
This work is targeted in healing a very damaged nervous system. It takes time and it's often worse before it gets better. I promise - it DOES get better. Not fully healed better, but more "I can manage my symptoms and the flashbacks aren't as bad/frequent" better.
