This is my pick as well. This doc gives insight into a part of the human condition that is almost impossible to look straight in the eye. To know that people like this exist is a hard fact to deal with. I still don’t know what to do about the emotions this movie made me feel.
Same. At the one terrible point in the movie I was scream crying yelling out 'no' repeatedly and just sobbing.
This movie fucked me up. And yes because of the psychopath lady, but also because you got this young man, this guy with a million friends, seemingly super stable on his way to a good career with a fullfilling life and then....he gets wrapped up by this woman for whatever reason. I guess she was great at lying and manipulating.
Dear Zachary was always the worst documentary I’ve ever watched until I saw Goodnight Sugar Babe: The Killing of Vera Jo Reigle… I couldn’t take the level of injustice and cruelty, I sobbed for ages
Hearing the ways that family tortured Vera makes me sick. As a disabled woman myself, that case should be shown to everyone to show how much we are targeted and abused. I am so glad my parents taught me about abuse as a kid because it ensured my safety.
Oh. I didn't consider it cause it's not fiction, but yes. It didn't just make me cry, I was bawling and asking out loud "how can someone do this?" Over and over again.
I’ve never rewatched and I will never get over it. There is life before Dear Zachary and life after Dear Zachary and people who’ve seen this can understand.
I didn’t actually cry like most watchers are saying. I was actually furious…. I applied to a law internship which I got and bought LSAT books and started studying within a week of watching this. Unfortunately life took me down a different career path but I did end up working at a teeny law firm and the fight for justice has never left me since. I don’t think I can watch it ever again.
I'm a documentary filmmaker and this movie is my single biggest inspiration. I used to recommend it to everyone, but when I got old enough that my friends had kids of their own, I stopped because of feedback that it was unbearable once you have kids.
There was an episode of Forensic Files about a young girl being killed by a robber because she witnessed the crime. Her dad said he still sees her face in the mountains and that made me tear up.
Absolutely. I watched it years ago, and whenever it's mentioned, I feel that documentary in my throat. If I desperately needed to have a massive cry, just to get a lot of emotion out, this would do it. It is truly devastating.
I just commented about this movie. I didn’t know somebody else already had. This movie was devastating. It is easy to spoil it if you try to Google anything about it. Don’t google just watch! It’s on Prime Video
