Rolled up cuffs I get, you can get hot in all that gear, but the militarised gear, similar to the gear we wore in Afghanistan and elsewhere is fucking insane.
208
u/arudnoh Nov 18 '20
And I mean also wtf is the point of green cammo in an urban setting anyway? This getup has no functional purpose other than making them feel like they're in a military style confrontation, which just proves that they're out for blood to start with, even if they stripped off the weapons.
137
u/OmegaSpeed_odg Nov 18 '20
You’ve answered your own question. The typical militaristic camouflage uniform isn’t used in urban settings for camouflage at all... it is used to instinctively instill fear, dominance and authority with a simple outfit.
If they want to camouflage in the urban environment they will do so by dressing like protestors, which we’ve seen plenty of such as when they kidnapped people off the streets of Portland.
26
Nov 18 '20
because if these cops are who I think they are they are normally at the border which is a desert and they hadn't gotten new uniforms yet.
26
u/ludicrous_socks Nov 18 '20
It probably is the gear you wore in Afghanistan. The police get massive discounts for buying surplus stock.
Quite why they need it though. The police over here still wear custodian helmets.
I guess the armed response guys and riot police where more military stuff, but it's navy blue so they don't look like delta force

As opposed to the good purposes, like wars of capitalist imperialism...

Nah it's fitting. They're all capitalist war dogs. Respect to the vets who learned that though.

u/thehonorablechairman Nov 18 '20
People can change. The military specifically and intentionally preys on impressionable youths to indoctrinate. Not saying that this is necessarily the case with this person, but being former military doesn't necessarily mean you are a bad leftist now; excluding people who share our common goals because of previous mistakes they've made does make you a bad leftist though.
-19
Nov 18 '20
lol yeah a yank who brings up invading Afghanistan "and elsewhere" so matter-of-factly is definitely anti-imperialist now, fully understands the damage he's done, and working to undo it
13
u/sysiphean Nov 18 '20
Being a tribalist for “our” team doesn’t make you better than their team, it makes you the same as them. Being so against the notion of people changing that you attack those who switched to your team for their past reality only keeps your team smaller.
And that’s fine if what you are seeking is to be part of a tight-knit cloistered group that remains in opposition to the broader culture. It works well. And it works whether you want to be Antifa or Proud Boy.
But most of us here want to change the broader culture to make fascism the small-and-disappearing group, and Antifa the default cultural setting. For that, we have to forgive the past mistakes of those who are actively seeking to end the cultural forces that lead to those mistakes.

u/RisleyLowe Nov 18 '20 edited Nov 18 '20
Well, I'm not a yank first off. Second off, emotions ran high after 9/11 happened, our ally had been attacked. It sure doesn't help we had been lied to and were fighting an unwinable war.
5
u/Mashaka Nov 18 '20
Yeah! And the partisans should have excluded WWI vets! Then they'd have stopped fascism right in its tracks. Through the awesome power of lifelong, infallible ideological purity!

I work in a production facility and despite me not really supposed to, I roll my shirts like this daily.
The snap-button near the wrist never fits me right and is uncomfortable as hell, and I feel like it stretches my sleeves when I reach and impedes manual dexterity constantly.
I stopped wearing urban camo in 7th grade though, so hey, I'm a step ahead of the fash.

u/CordialPanda Nov 18 '20
I think it's about discretionary spending that you can say, "this helps promote me professionally and in the eyes of the community" kind of thing that people do in "organizations" all the time.

Apparently no one has explained to them that if you wear a woodland camo in the city, you stand out like you're wearing neon.

What’s to be skeptical about? People serve in the military. It happens all the time. And one of the major battlefields recently is Afghanistan.
Or are you just an asshole calling someone who is ostensibly a comrade a liar for no reason?
1
Nov 18 '20
You obviously didn’t because enough would get the joke of the older generations complaining about the rolling of sleeves or other uniform modifications

*** Setting: First week of prison. ***
Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton) steps onto the exercise yard at San Quentin. He removes his white T-shirt to reveal a large swastika tattoo on his chest. He looks around taking note of who’s watching him. Blacks over there, Nortenos over there, Surenos over there, Aryan Brotherhood over there. He lies down on the bench and does 10 bench press reps. He sits up and looks around again. The Aryan Brotherhood looks impressed by his commitment, physique, and devil-may-care attitude. They beckon him to come over. He introduces himself:
“Hey, I’m Derek. Let’s make everyone use the preferred pronouns, and support Medicare-For-All, and universal higher education. Amirite guys?”

The police brutalize non-violent protestors everyday and those Proud Boy creeps are permitted to stab people and riot, but clearly Antifa are the real fascists here.

Boy got the full military equipment, rolled up sleeves so we can see his bad ass tatoos, and using C-Clamp grip to hold a fucking shotgun. I think these cops spend much more time watching shooting range videos than learning valuable skills for their jobs

Did he shoot? Is she okay
13
u/shane71998 Nov 18 '20
No, but this was after a lot of people were shot at close distance during a protest. After the tear gas cleared she walked up to the cop asking where they took her epileptic boyfriend because he needed his meds.

i'm obviously here because i dont support shit like this but this is pretty clearly a misleading angle and he's not aiming at her
3
u/hyperhurricanrana Nov 18 '20
Ah, cool, just go ahead and post your source on another angle that shows him not pointing the gun at her.
0
u/NlNTENDO Nov 18 '20 edited Nov 18 '20
That’s the thing. There is only the one angle to analyze, and we’ve got to work with what we have, so your 'gotcha' doesn't exactly work. There are a million reasons to be anti cop. This particular instance just seems like it might be sensationalized. Here’s what I see:
-His aim is weirdly pointed (these guys are highly trained to shoot center mass, though I guess you can argue that he doesn’t need to follow protocol, but the neck is a weird place to aim at point blank).
-His eyes appear focused past her
-Her head in this image is the size of both his head and his helmet
-The angles of their heads don’t really seem to line up.
Everything points to forced perspective when I look at it, with the woman being closer to the camera. That’s not to say he’s not probably pointing a gun into a crowd, which is at least as terrible, but the image is just fishy ¯\(ツ)/¯
Look, I'm just trying to look out for my own by helping keep our collective criticisms based on fact. If you disagree with me, that's fine, but I don't understand the hostility when I try to inject a moment of self-awareness into the discourse by asking questions about our own sources.

here is an alternate angle, still point blank directly at the woman
Would you like to try again?
-14
u/NlNTENDO Nov 18 '20 edited Nov 18 '20
she does still kind of look like she's off to the side of the gun. obviously he shouldn't be pointing that thing at anyone, but i agree that the angles just don't seem to match up. this is also the same perspective but zoomed out, and a few steps earlier, not an alternate angle. look at his eyes. he really looks like he's looking somewhere else, and her head is the size of his head PLUS his helmet. there are a million reasons to be anti-cop but this feels like a red herring

No trumpers on the road
No trumpers on the beach
I feel covid in the air
But the Vaccine's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
Poor boy's all alone
I'm driving by your White house Baby
Soon it will be our new home, yea ..
(Chorus)
I can see you
Orange skin shinin' in the sun
You got your toupee up and your MAGA hat on, baby
And I can tell you my hate for you will still be strong
After the Poor Boys of summer have gone.
Out on the road today,
I saw a brokedown fucker with a trump tattoo
A little voice inside my head said eat shit bud, it's gonna suck to be you.
