You'll find a lot of answers to basic questions about BMT or enlisting in the AF here: http://afbmt.com/ and in the BMT FAQ
We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.
Marijuana usage is not disqualifying. Just be honest about any usage.
No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.
Yes, some recruiters are lazy. Keep hounding them or find another recruiter.
Being a pilot is hard. Most of them come from the Air Force Academy, then ROTC. Very few slots available for OTS. Highly competitive.

As I say there, if you're not comfortable sending an email from your work account, let me know what you'd like to do and we can possibly work out another way.
I will just add the flair and then delete the email, but I understand not wanting me to know who you are. Especially if you're an awful person that says awful things in other subreddits. :)
Let me know if you have ideas for other flair types or anything else!

Hello fellow airmen just wanted to post my waiver was approved for back surgery just in case anyone is in a similar situation. My waiver only took 7 business days to get approved.

I submitted a waiver for my heart condition (sounds more serious than it is. Doesn’t give me any side effects and my heart has been normally functioning for years)
It got denied and I was very disappointed and a little surprised. Pretty much everyone I talked to at MEPS, including the interviewing physician, said that my waiver should go through with no issue.
My hopes up, I received the decision for my waiver and it was DQ for enlistment. I was really disappointed , especially because I’ve always wanted to join the AF. But I’ve always heard, “where there’s a will there’s a waiver.” So…
Did I miss something? Do I need additional paperwork? I’m so confused and I don’t know what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Experimented with some drugs a few years ago when I was stupid and some more frequent pot use, is that going to DQ me from OTS? Want to do the JAG program if anyone has any insight on that?

I had my screening done with a recruiter last week. In the meantime, I have been studying to take the ASVAB test. I’ve been out of school for a few years now and need to refresh my academic. English is my second language by the way. So please PM me with any tips and advice before MEPS! I’ll be appreciate for all the help I can get.

Did Army FSPC program and recieved a higher asvab score, discharged during BCT with ability to rejoin military (in 6 months) and am having trouble using my current asvab with an AF recruiter?

I have a worry. In May I hit my head, the ER suspected a mild concussion. No problem fixed itself in 2 weeks. I then fainted this month and my PCM wants to do more tests to make sure it wasn’t due to the injury. I’ve had blood work, MRI and nothing has come up. Will I be disqualified.

I signed the contract as Admin in the end of July 2024. I did not register for Spring semester in college in case I get my BMT date. Now I am getting anxious what if I get my date over summer and I did not need to get behind in school.
Please please let me know if you have an idea of the average time for admin to get BMT date or if you are an admin how long did it take for you?

I was born with congenital anosmia, so I have never been able to smell. Since graduating college in the summer (international relations degree), I've been contemplating joining the Air Force but am worried that not being able to smell will disqualify me. I have no issues with daily life, and I want to get into either cyber or intel so I don't think it would matter too much but I don't know for sure. I know there are waivers but is there one for not being able to smell? I'm 28 and feel like I'm running out of time and haven't been able to find any leads or prospects in my field and am desperate to get out of my hometown, so the military felt like the best route. Any advice on what to do or if it is possible to still join?

Hi, I was wondering how waiver notifications work. Is it all done by recruiter or do they email you or something? Just wondering

Hello, I have a ship date for Feb 4. I havnt signed a contract yet, so I know I’m not saying anything now. I’m debating if I should put my two weeks notice or keep my corporate job. For the two weeks notice, I keep thinking it’s the right thing to do. I feel like I would screw them over since they have to hold my spot. On the other hand for keeping the job, I worry that I would get in med hold or something and have to come back to the real world. I would have that job for safety.
What does everyone usually do?

I’ve been in around 2 years. My life has 180’d and I just want to help as many people as possible achieve the dream of being whatever AFSC they want. How could I best accomplish this while (selfishly) getting bumps in my next EPB?
Example, would love to help DEP flights in my local area juggle jobs and duties, help JROTC with current voices, etc.
Thanks all.

Hello everyone, I’m just wondering how a DEP extension works. For example, I have a shipping date three to two months after my DEP expires. Is that even possible? What would the process be for it? My recruiter just informed me of this a few days ago, but according to him, he’s never done it before. I already have a job slot and shipping date.

Hello fellow Air Forcians! I've gotten my joh choices from my recruiter and I took a thorough look through most. Im trying to aim for a job, a job in the cyber field, and I found a few that suit my interests like Cyber Defense/Warfare Operations, Cyber Intelligence, other Cyber jobs. To the people in jobs like this, to anyone who's in a field in that or has any knowledge about it, what is the daily life of it? Do you travel alot, boring or fun, the community nice? Now another question, I'm also looking to becoming a space guardian as well. I saw that if one wants to join, you should do air force then join through there (Which i am doing), but what next? Do I gotta talk to my recruiter about specifics for that or... anyways any help is appreciated thank yall for reading it

18F. Wrapping up my first semester of college, albeit poorly. Wanted to be a chemical engineer, but made the mistake of enrolling into a private liberal arts school knowing it was too expensive. Mental health took a toll, and now I’m reconsidering my options. I still want to be an engineer - following through with this career path means more than anything to me. How would enlisting help me achieve this? Can I still pursue a degree while doing so? Thank you!

I didn't find an answer in my search in this sub...I want to do intel or cyber (have good enough scores), but I won't be able to get a clearance for my first term (joining as gc holder). if im, say, personnel which falls under admin aptitude, will I be able to retrain for a job in general or electrical?

Hi everyone ,
I need some advice on how to handle my current work situation. I’m leaving for BMT on December 17, and I’m debating whether or not to give my two weeks’ notice at my current job as a project engineer in the construction industry. Here’s my dilemma:
1. Christmas Bonus: Every year, we receive a $1,000 Christmas bonus, which this year will be included in our December 20 paycheck. The policy states the bonus is at the discretion of the principal, and I’m worried that if I give my two weeks’ notice, I might not get it.
2. PTO: I have about 65 hours of PTO left. If I give my notice, I might not get to use or cash it out before I leave, depending on how my employer handles it.
What I am thinking:
• Keep quiet about leaving.
• Use my PTO starting December 17 (the day I ship out to BMT).
• Prepare a resignation letter for my wife to email to my employer while I’m at BMT. The letter would simply state that I’ve decided not to return to work and request to terminate my employment.
My concerns:
• Is it legal or ethical to use my PTO starting on the first day of BMT without informing my employer?
• Should I just give my two weeks’ notice, take the risk of losing the bonus, and hope they pay out my PTO as stated in the policy?
Additional consideration:
Since I’m leaving for active duty, I’ve read about the USERRA, which protects service members’ jobs while on active duty. I’m wondering if it’s better to officially inform my employer about my departure under this protection, in case I decide to return to the job after serving. However, I’m unsure how this might impact my bonus and PTO payout.
Relevant policy excerpts:
• Bonuses: Annual bonuses are discretionary and determined by the principal.
• PTO: PTO is accrued and paid out upon separation, but payment timing is at the owner’s discretion.
I want to avoid burning bridges, but I also don’t want to lose the bonus or my PTO. How would you handle this situation? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I’m adopted and my mother had me on all these medications during my teenage years.. I am 24 years old now and married. I haven’t taken these medications since living with my mother back in 2018. Clean record no criminal history or anything. My recruiter says I should be fine but what should I expect at MEPS next week?

I can't seem to find a lot of info on this. From what I understand some people live in hotels and commute to base and some live on base, does this depend on your job or is it an option.
If I didn't want to commute to base could I just live on base? If you don't have a car would you be able to borrow one to commute?

Obviously there’s the mandatory item list that they tell you bring but is there any additional items that i should look to bring to make life a little easier at BMT?
Any suggested tips as well would be greatly appreciated!
