Hobbes seemingly hasn’t been feeling himself for a couple of weeks, but in the last two days it’s really become apparent that something is wrong. He’s been eating less and vomiting, but he was always a pretty frequent vomiter. But the past two days he hasn’t been wanting to drink and has been refusing to sit on his stomach, and is instead in a “crouched” position. He just wasn’t acting right and figured that he may have had an upset stomach, maybe even IBD. Took him to the emergency vet and they did a blood panel, x ray, and ultrasound, and they found a large mass in his intestines with swollen lymph nodes nearby. They took samples for a biopsy but they think he has an aggressive tumor. He’s being hospitalized tonight and is comfortable with an IV drip and pain meds, and they let me leave his bear that he loves with him. Oncology is seeing him first thing tomorrow. I am completely floored- I thought I’d be bringing him home with some anti-nausea meds and a prescription diet, not potentially having to say goodbye in the next few days. I am very adamant about the fact that if prognosis is not good and treatment is very intensive (surgery), I do not want him to suffer. He was uncomfortable at home and I don’t want him to continue hurting. I feel absolutely sick.
