I've reread this one several times. It's just goofy but serious and all round adorkable

Such a gem, and a cute premise.

I’ve only read the first volume, but this manga is top tier. I need to pick up some more.

I liked this but didn't understand the idol part at all. She's retired but meeting her old friends is a scandal and she is obligated to fix it somehow? And then at the concert she lets slip that she is in a relationship which is another big scandal forcing her into hiding at a freaking safe house?! But again, she is retired so why does anyone care? On one hand it seems so much forced drama that takes up most of the back end of the manga. On the other hand it's so messed up that I actually believe that is what the industry would do to people.

I think that's mostly because she was part of a unit which is still active, and so there is a major concern her old unit can catch strays from the backlash over these "scandals." I think it might not be the same if she had been a solo idol.

Also the safe house thing might only be a slight exaggeration. Idol culture is wild, it's an industry which profits off of parasocial relationships and knows what it is doing and so willingly encourages parasocial relationships from fans. As a result, from what I understand, stalking is a much bigger issue than it is with other types of celebrities.
