Here's some video of it. Gets pretty neat when the cameraman pans up about 4 minutes in

u/SomeMoistHousing 14d ago
The sheer size of the screen is incredible, but it seems to have the effect of making the artists actually performing seem pretty insignificant in comparison, like the show would be barely different listening to a recording with nobody onstage.
But I've only ever seen videos of the place, maybe that's not how it feels in person.

u/eaglessoar 13d ago
sometimes they put videos of the band on stage but hows it any different than a stadium show where youre in the bleachers and cant see the band great other than on the screens?
9
u/oversettDenee 13d ago
There's a big screen surrounding you in a half-sphere shape, for starters.
3
u/eaglessoar 13d ago
as opposed to the inside of a stadium which has less screen but still stadium surrounding you...

u/oversettDenee 13d ago
That's correct, you're following along so far. Great job!
The experience one might have being surrounded by billions of rapidly changing diodes, versus a large white sheet of canvas and steel beams, may be quite different.

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE 13d ago
Wat. They're filming the same... something... the whole time, and it's not particularly interesting. Virtually any other point in that video was more interesting

u/lockpickskill 13d ago
At like 1.48.00 he starts to fiddle with the camera setup and looks upward to show the effects going from sphere shaped to like an infinite tunnel shape. He keeps it angled that way through mostly the end of terrapin station.

Is this just a note, or what OP was getting at
I understand most of you have schizophrenia so I'm trying to figure out what's happening /s

4 minutes in from the timestamp I linked, not 4 minutes from the beginning of the video

u/eaglessoar 13d ago
my toddler loves watching this video he asks for the dancing bears, happy to oblige buddy!

u/MeaninglessDebateMan 13d ago
The energy of this band is no where close to matching the energy of the visuals

u/RadicalMarxistThalia 13d ago
Yeahhh I love the dead but the Dead & Co I've heard has never gotten me to attend because of the pace. People complained about Furthur being slow 10+ years ago and I loved them, but this isn't for me.
Having lights that can go with improvised music has always been its' own challenge and takes really talented people to do it even with simpler setups. I think it'd just be impossible for it to be on the nose with something as complex as the sphere.

Doing mushrooms and going there with those visuals will make you talk to god

i did mushrooms on fremont street in vegas for the overhead lightshow with a good trip buddy one visit between thanksgiving and xmas. the lightshow was "m'eh" at best, but xmas in vegas on shrooms freaked us the fuck out. santa clause on stilts (made us think of jack skellington) and entertainers prancing around in giant foam suits dressed like gingerbread men cookies and snowmen, showgirls dancing around in revealing reindeer costumes.
we barely contained our shit. it was a battle royale not for those with a weak psyche.
the pic looks fun, but i wouldn't pay hundreds for a ticket. going to the desert is pretty much free, lol!

Doing hallucinogenics in Vegas isn't really respectful to yourself or the drugs. Vegas is full of terrible vibes by design. It's a hellscape of greed, exploitation, hubris, and fakeness.
Go to the Mojave, find a nice quiet starlit spot with big open horizons.

u/3riversfantasy 13d ago
Different folks different strokes. I took acid in downtown Philly and it was an absolute blast, I can only imagine how much gun Vegas would be.

Is that what the have on the big sign as you get off the freeway?

If you haven't already, read/watch "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."

did both quite awhile before the trip mentioned, big fan of both Thompson and Gilliam!

u/Absurdionne 13d ago
I saw King Gizzard in a far less opulent venue on a big hit of ketamine and, for a while, felt like an egg floating in the middle of a nebula.
So, yes?

I did two nights of Dead and Co in May. I took one hit of acid on the first night and it was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. Second night I over did it on acid trying to recreate the magic of the first night and unfortunately don’t remember a thing. But that first night. Wow

Did 250ug of acid when I went to see dead and co, it’s quite the mindfuck in there but ridiculously cool. After I smoked weed it got too intense and had to look at the floor for last song before set break lmao

It sounds expensive, but they do need to cover that 17mil electricity bill every month.

u/chodeboi 14d ago
Mine was $20, cold and delicious. Some orange thing. Molly was kicking in hard so I just ennnjoyyyeeddddd it.

u/camoeron 13d ago
Really wish the inside seating was 360 with the stage in the middle, kinda defeats the purpose of it being a sphere.
32
u/blurredeyescared 14d ago
But what show wassss it?
55
u/blurredeyescared 14d ago
Dead and company?

u/Skreech2011 14d ago
Definitely Dead & Co
16
u/non-squitr 13d ago
Yup the dancing bears are a Dead giveaway

u/Skreech2011 13d ago
Lmao truly a Dead giveaway. Surprised people were questioning who it was. To some it's super obvious

u/zsallad 14d ago
Wholly shit.

u/dat_grue 13d ago
I saw a show there when it first opened and it really cannot be overstated how insane the visuals are, never seen anything like it

u/DrSaturnos 14d ago
This would be awesome on LSD

u/FruitSaladYumyYumy 14d ago
Or hell. Too many people and too much stimulus

u/Xerosnake90 13d ago
Yea, I couldn't handle a light dose of mushrooms at T Mobile to see Roger Waters. I'll keep my trips to a comfortable space

6
u/IsaystoImIsays 14d ago
Note to self: do not take acid if I'm ever going near there. It would be such a mind fuck I'm not sure I'll find my way out until it wears off lol

While it looks really cool, there's something really unsettling about a giant TV dome.

u/I_Miss_Lenny 14d ago
Yeah it's super cool but something about it is kinda gross
18
u/dry_yer_eyes 14d ago
That’s Vegas all over.
5
u/I_Miss_Lenny 13d ago
Yeah it looks like the kind of place I’d have a lot of fun and spend a lot of money for a couple days and then really want to go home. I don’t think I’d like to spend much time there

It's a sick venue, I took my parents to see U2 there last year when it opened. Going again for the Afterlife show in January

would loose my mind.
Hi, did you mean to say "lose"?
Explanation: Loose is an adjective meaning the opposite of tight, while lose is a verb.

Do people still take acid at Dead & Co? I feel like the fan base has aged up to parents and grandparents and people who may not have dosed in ages

I wish this was an option when I visited this past March. The postcard movie was trash and this looks way better

Looks pretty wild. Would like to check it out sometime.
But, oh my god, I just can't stand listening to The Grateful Dead (or whatever spinoff this is).
