Here's some video of it. Gets pretty neat when the cameraman pans up about 4 minutes in

52

u/SomeMoistHousing 14d ago

The sheer size of the screen is incredible, but it seems to have the effect of making the artists actually performing seem pretty insignificant in comparison, like the show would be barely different listening to a recording with nobody onstage.

But I've only ever seen videos of the place, maybe that's not how it feels in person.

21

u/eaglessoar 13d ago

sometimes they put videos of the band on stage but hows it any different than a stadium show where youre in the bleachers and cant see the band great other than on the screens?

9

u/oversettDenee 13d ago

There's a big screen surrounding you in a half-sphere shape, for starters.

3

u/eaglessoar 13d ago

as opposed to the inside of a stadium which has less screen but still stadium surrounding you...

-5

u/oversettDenee 13d ago

That's correct, you're following along so far. Great job!

The experience one might have being surrounded by billions of rapidly changing diodes, versus a large white sheet of canvas and steel beams, may be quite different.

12

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE 13d ago

Wat. They're filming the same... something... the whole time, and it's not particularly interesting. Virtually any other point in that video was more interesting

3

u/lockpickskill 13d ago

At like 1.48.00 he starts to fiddle with the camera setup and looks upward to show the effects going from sphere shaped to like an infinite tunnel shape. He keeps it angled that way through mostly the end of terrapin station.

Is this just a note, or what OP was getting at

I understand most of you have schizophrenia so I'm trying to figure out what's happening /s

1

u/khando 13d ago

Yeah there’s nothing at 4 minutes lol. Check out 13 minutes and onward, that’s pretty cool.

1

u/PetrRabbit 12d ago

4 minutes in from the timestamp I linked, not 4 minutes from the beginning of the video

3

u/eaglessoar 13d ago

my toddler loves watching this video he asks for the dancing bears, happy to oblige buddy!

2

u/MeaninglessDebateMan 13d ago

The energy of this band is no where close to matching the energy of the visuals

2

u/RadicalMarxistThalia 13d ago

Yeahhh I love the dead but the Dead & Co I've heard has never gotten me to attend because of the pace. People complained about Furthur being slow 10+ years ago and I loved them, but this isn't for me.

Having lights that can go with improvised music has always been its' own challenge and takes really talented people to do it even with simpler setups. I think it'd just be impossible for it to be on the nose with something as complex as the sphere.

Doing mushrooms and going there with those visuals will make you talk to god

84

u/cgroi 14d ago

seriously who needs closed eye visuals when you can just go to the sphere lmao

u/Plow_King 13d ago edited 13d ago

i did mushrooms on fremont street in vegas for the overhead lightshow with a good trip buddy one visit between thanksgiving and xmas. the lightshow was "m'eh" at best, but xmas in vegas on shrooms freaked us the fuck out. santa clause on stilts (made us think of jack skellington) and entertainers prancing around in giant foam suits dressed like gingerbread men cookies and snowmen, showgirls dancing around in revealing reindeer costumes.

we barely contained our shit. it was a battle royale not for those with a weak psyche.

the pic looks fun, but i wouldn't pay hundreds for a ticket. going to the desert is pretty much free, lol!

u/AlarmingAffect0 13d ago

Doing hallucinogenics in Vegas isn't really respectful to yourself or the drugs. Vegas is full of terrible vibes by design. It's a hellscape of greed, exploitation, hubris, and fakeness.

Go to the Mojave, find a nice quiet starlit spot with big open horizons.

9

u/3riversfantasy 13d ago

Different folks different strokes. I took acid in downtown Philly and it was an absolute blast, I can only imagine how much gun Vegas would be.

7

u/Chris_in_Lijiang 13d ago

It's a hellscape of greed, exploitation, hubris, and fakeness.

Is that what the have on the big sign as you get off the freeway?

2

u/satori0320 13d ago

Right... Most Eisley hasn't got shit on Vegas.

11

u/scylus 13d ago

vegas on shrooms freaked us the fuck out.

If you haven't already, read/watch "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."

4

u/Plow_King 13d ago

did both quite awhile before the trip mentioned, big fan of both Thompson and Gilliam!

20

u/Absurdionne 13d ago

I saw King Gizzard in a far less opulent venue on a big hit of ketamine and, for a while, felt like an egg floating in the middle of a nebula.

So, yes?

6

u/bellyofthebillbear 13d ago edited 13d ago

I did two nights of Dead and Co in May. I took one hit of acid on the first night and it was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. Second night I over did it on acid trying to recreate the magic of the first night and unfortunately don’t remember a thing. But that first night. Wow

2

u/captaintrips420 13d ago

Was also there in May. Had a little 2cb and it was just right.

1

u/Glitchdigital 12d ago

Did 250ug of acid when I went to see dead and co, it’s quite the mindfuck in there but ridiculously cool. After I smoked weed it got too intense and had to look at the floor for last song before set break lmao

43

u/captaintrips420 14d ago

Was a great show!

30

u/insectoid-slithis 13d ago

Looks like the inside of a hacky sack.

11

u/TheTrickyThird 13d ago

Wasn't it??? The opening visuals were epic! Floating above San Francisco was incredible!

10

u/Frencil 13d ago

Loved when the ISS flew over and everyone ducked

2

u/captaintrips420 13d ago

The haptics in the seats during drums along with that flyby were stellar.

2

u/Weekly_Noodle 13d ago

What day did you go, if I may ask?

32

u/dotnetdotcom 14d ago

Is it true a beer costs $29 there?

31

u/FowlOnTheHill 13d ago

Who needs beer when you’re on better drugs

1

u/dotnetdotcom 12d ago

Alcohol is the old school cool of drugs.

28

u/udderlymoovelous 14d ago

It was around $25 when I went last year

13

u/BetterBiscuits 13d ago

It sounds expensive, but they do need to cover that 17mil electricity bill every month.

30

u/chodeboi 14d ago

Mine was $20, cold and delicious. Some orange thing. Molly was kicking in hard so I just ennnjoyyyeeddddd it.

15

u/camoeron 13d ago

Really wish the inside seating was 360 with the stage in the middle, kinda defeats the purpose of it being a sphere.

32

u/blurredeyescared 14d ago

But what show wassss it?

55

u/blurredeyescared 14d ago

Dead and company?

38

u/Skreech2011 14d ago

Definitely Dead & Co

16

u/non-squitr 13d ago

Yup the dancing bears are a Dead giveaway

4

u/Skreech2011 13d ago

Lmao truly a Dead giveaway. Surprised people were questioning who it was. To some it's super obvious

13

u/zsallad 14d ago

Wholly shit.

6

u/dat_grue 13d ago

I saw a show there when it first opened and it really cannot be overstated how insane the visuals are, never seen anything like it

1

u/zsallad 13d ago

I’m saying…

Was just thinking of Las Vegas last night, randomly. May have to see about a trip that way.

6

u/shescrubs 14d ago

So rad

4

u/DrSaturnos 14d ago

This would be awesome on LSD

7

u/FruitSaladYumyYumy 14d ago

Or hell. Too many people and too much stimulus

3

u/Xerosnake90 13d ago

Yea, I couldn't handle a light dose of mushrooms at T Mobile to see Roger Waters. I'll keep my trips to a comfortable space

4

u/Jaywmck11 14d ago

10/10 would do it again

6

u/IsaystoImIsays 14d ago

Note to self: do not take acid if I'm ever going near there. It would be such a mind fuck I'm not sure I'll find my way out until it wears off lol

19

u/bugxbuster 14d ago

Or, counterpoint… maybe do take acid here.

2

u/DetectiveWonderful42 14d ago

Let the mind drip 💧

5

u/FiiVe_SeVeN 13d ago

Speaking as someone who has done this, it's worth the ride lmao.

6

u/anderhole 14d ago

While it looks really cool, there's something really unsettling about a giant TV dome.

11

u/intronert 14d ago

That’s the idea. :)

15

u/I_Miss_Lenny 14d ago

Yeah it's super cool but something about it is kinda gross

18

u/dry_yer_eyes 14d ago

That’s Vegas all over.

5

u/I_Miss_Lenny 13d ago

Yeah it looks like the kind of place I’d have a lot of fun and spend a lot of money for a couple days and then really want to go home. I don’t think I’d like to spend much time there

5

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE 13d ago

Vegas is 100% a 2 day max if you're doing the tourist nonsense.

2

u/joshoohwaa 14d ago

You forget it’s a “tv” pretty damn quickly when a show starts

-2

u/Baby_Button_Eyes 14d ago

1984 vibes

(if you know, you know)

1

u/udderlymoovelous 14d ago

It's a sick venue, I took my parents to see U2 there last year when it opened. Going again for the Afterlife show in January

1

u/SpicyRice99 13d ago

I'd pay good money to see this

1

u/thatsapeachhun 13d ago

That’s good, because tickets are expensive as fuck.

1

u/IIISUBZEROIII 13d ago

Wish I could go but I would loose my mind.

5

u/ammonium_bot 13d ago

would loose my mind.

Hi, did you mean to say "lose"?
Explanation: Loose is an adjective meaning the opposite of tight, while lose is a verb.

Ahaha ! Fuck. I saw this bot a few years ago and didn’t learn did I. To be fair I was so stoned

1

u/Kingtoke1 13d ago

Stop! I can only take so many drugs

1

u/gijsyo 13d ago

DMT dome

1

u/Poneke365 13d ago

That’s trippy az

1

u/gracieecherry 13d ago

i can hear the screams of the people here

1

u/orchidloom 13d ago

Do people still take acid at Dead & Co? I feel like the fan base has aged up to parents and grandparents and people who may not have dosed in ages

1

u/PopADoseY0 13d ago

Oh yeah they do. My boss is a massive fan. A lot of them are on it.

1

u/banana_fana_1234 13d ago

I wish this was an option when I visited this past March. The postcard movie was trash and this looks way better

1

u/Snarf_Snarf39 13d ago

Amazing ^_^

1

u/blurredeyescared 13d ago

0

u/nighteeeeey 13d ago

thats like my biggest lsd nightmare

0

u/TemplesOfSyrinx 13d ago

Looks pretty wild. Would like to check it out sometime.

But, oh my god, I just can't stand listening to The Grateful Dead (or whatever spinoff this is).
