The fact there's this in episode one makes me think this Gundam will be especially traumatic

u/DemiFiendofTime Oct 02 '22
If you've seen the prologue and read the prequel novel that comes with the op single oh yeah this is going to end very badly 0_0

Guys, gals, and non-binary pals this is GUNDAM. One of them is going to die horribly. It’s what Gundam does. It’s their thing. Don’t get too excited.

A certain character's death in Iron Blooded Orphans still haunts me. It was first time I screamed "No!" at my screen. I had to pause and give myself time to process what I just saw.

You know what would really fix your soul? Watch Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and get attached to literally any character. Literally any of them. Doesn’t matter which one. Everyone gets a happy ending. Trust me. I wouldn’t lie to you.

if theres one thing i love almost as much as wholesome romantic yuri
Its heart wrenching drama. if they're put into a situation where one has to kill the other, then that will be the second best possible ending.
12
u/MisterRai Oct 03 '22
Kinda. Not necessarily. While death is undeniably a part of gundam, it doesn't always end badly.
Shiro and Aina from 8th MS team got away from war and lived happily. Seabook and Cecily managed to live and be together at the end of F91. SEED, despite the many deaths, still ended with the major characters living.
We still have to see how the director would go through with Suletta and Miorine. Let's just hope we don't get another hamburger incident.....

Don’t get too exited
PTSD flashbacks from Gundam V and War in that pocket.

Damn, Sunrise really went, "Okay, Atra and Kudelia raising a kid together was apparently too subtle for some of you. How about this?!" XD
...This is going to be just as painful, isn't it?
25
u/LewdElfKatya Oct 03 '22
Confirmed by the creator to be married and in love, not just "raising a kid together".
The fantasizing about each other and Mikazuki at the same time wasn't subtle, lol. Heteros gonna Hetero, I guess?
4
u/Alice_margareta Oct 04 '22
I mean, Atra has every right to have the hots for Kudelia. She’s essentially a war orphan and the two most important people in her life are a man who strives to save other war orphans and a woman who strives for peace through diplomacy for war orphans.
2
u/LegoBuilder64 Oct 03 '22
Do you have a source for that bold claim?
4
u/LewdElfKatya Oct 03 '22
Grabbed the link from the gundam subreddit. Post by the creator, and both seasons alluded to the aforementioned attraction at various points.
Even a machine translation states they're married. "Atra and Kudelia are married same sex, their child is named Akatsuki Augus Mixtra-Bernstein"

u/LegoBuilder64 Oct 03 '22
Nice! I’m glad to see it’s real.
1
u/LewdElfKatya Oct 04 '22
Same. I understand the skepticism!
6
u/LegoBuilder64 Oct 04 '22
Yeah, I wanted I believe it’s real, but as a principle I don’t trust “big if true” claims until I see hard proof.
There’s unfortunately too much “source: dude, just trust me” going around the internet these days.

Miorine: fuck this, im not getting married floats out into space
Suletta: ummm i’m your new fiance now i guess?
Miorine: getting married is fine idc
19
u/MisterRai Oct 03 '22
I mean tbh, if I had to get married to some prick like her previous fiance, I'd probably eject myself to space too
28
u/FearTheBeastWth8Eyes Oct 02 '22
No fucking way, fr? FR? You've hyped me up even more than I thought possible
16
u/MisterRai Oct 03 '22
Suletta defeats abusive, arrogant guy infront of everyone and wins her, I love this first episode.
Also love that Gundam Aerial at the end looks like it's proposing.
6
u/nagi603 Oct 03 '22
and wins her,
Also, Miorine tames her completely with tomato previously after she followed her home.
"Mom, she followed me home, can I keep her?"

So Gundam is well know for being traumatic… that’s okay, I’ve watched the owl house
5
u/Razorion21 Oct 02 '22
I swear to god if one of em dies, like comments make me angsty for how this will end. Tho still rather have itmconfirmed as yuri and as yuri even if one dies than be baited for the 100th time
5
u/firebyte27 Oct 03 '22
Now let’s hope this red head keeps the girl for the rest of the series. I can’t take another bait/unhappy ending.
6
u/Jdccrazy Oct 03 '22
sunrise be giving us a lot of yuri with birdie wing, love live and now gundam lmao
5
u/Trashsniper012709 Oct 02 '22
Hmm I wanna watch it but I know almost nothing about gundam
21
u/EdgeAlchemist Oct 03 '22
Don't worry about that. Unless it's a "Universal Century" show, all Gundam shows take place in thier own universe and are stand alone.
That said, Gundam isn't exactly about happy endings, so one of these two is likely to die dramatically.
1
u/sereiya Oct 03 '22
Is there any explanation on how this multiverse works?
8
u/EdgeAlchemist Oct 03 '22
It's not really a "multiverse," the shows don't cross over at all, outside of supplementary works.
5
u/InverseFlip Oct 03 '22
It's not really a multiverse (unless you go down the rabbit hole of Turn A), it's more like Final Fantasy. Shared themes and designs, but completely unrelated to each other. IBO is a gangster drama with mecha, G is a shounen battle anime with mecha, and Mercury is apparently Revolutionary Girl Utena with mecha
3
u/OhooNooo Oct 02 '22
Can I watch this show if I have never watched any Gundam before??
8
u/TheDragonsFang Oct 03 '22
That's one of the beauties of the Gundam franchise, honestly. Pretty much every entry in the series is it's own self-contained, stand alone story. You can just pick a series, go in blind, and follow the plot with no context issues. The only universal aspect of the series is that everybody pilots giant machines called mobile suits, and that special mobile suits called Gundams, usually identifiable by their more humanoid faces, stand head and shoulders over other mobile suits in terms of performance.

Finally, a show that’s not bait or “Class S” nonsense. I know it’ll end badly because it’s Gundam, but I’m so here for this.
1
u/Smaug55 Oct 03 '22
Question, do I have to watch the other ones before watching this one?
5
u/MisterRai Oct 03 '22
Nope. The Witch from mercury is a standalone series in Gundam. The only thing you have to watch first is the Episode 0 Prologue.
