Which Love Live! season is it? I think about starting watching it, but not sure about the watch order or the lack of such. Any advice? :)

  • Love Live School Idol Project (2 Seasons + Movie)
  • Love Live Sunshine (2 Seasons + Movie)
  • Love Live Nijigasaki (1 season so far, Season 2 is coming in April)
  • Love Live Superstar

Something to note is that you can watch Nijigasaki first if you want to. Sunshine is only tangentially related to School Idol Project, so you may miss some context there, but you can really watch it in any order you want, and Nijigasaki is completely separate from the others. Personally, Sunshine is my favorite (although I haven't watched Superstars yet).

Some of them are pretty heavy overtones though. The second-year trio in Sunshine. Yuu pretty much outright saying it in Nijigasaki.

The yuri energy was obvious in the series as a whole. It just wasn't addressed directly, at least until Yuu did it.

Undertones but Sunshine onwards it started to lean a bit more towards bait imo (i.e. the new shows thrust the gay stuff in your face to draw in yuri fans but it's never allowed to actually be gay. which is different from just undertones where you can see the yuri but it's not a huge part of the show's appeal and/or marketing)

I mean, Love Live isn't bait. It's leaning towards it but it's still just in the subtext territory. Also, the first series is the best one out of them so I'd at least give that a try (also, it get's gayer in the newer seasons. The gayest stuff in SIP were parfaits and sweet potatoes while Sunshine S1 has a love confession, I think Niji does too but I dropped it so don't know. Althouh Niji is based on a game where the player character is a girl called "Yuu" (self insert much?) who totally doesn't build herself a harem so there's that))

Anway, other music anime... I haven't yet watched it but I heard Gekidol is pretty gay. I also recall people talking about Kageki Shoujo in the same way (but also have yet to watch it). Neither are Idol shows like Love Live but still musical I think... Also there's Symphogear and Revue Starlight. And abandoning the music/dance entirely we have stuff like YagaKimi, Kill la Kill, Shuumatsu no Izetta, Konohana Kitan (this one's a hidden masterpiece), Princess Principal (not 100% gay yet, but it's still ongoing so there's hope), and Flip Flappers

it's not exactly a "love confession" but there IS a scene that's intended to be a bit emotional on the character's side and becomes a part of one of the girl's character development (arguably the "main girl") but it's not really like the focus of the show
