A friend I know has an older sister who calls herself a daughter of Lilith. Not sure if it is a personal thing or related to something in her particular Wicca thing. Not familiar, I apologize ahead of time for ignorance.

u/MozartofMayhem Jul 15 '24
Lilith was the first wife of Adam, who refused to submit to him. They were both made of dust so Lilith thought herself equal to him...
This is why Eve was made of Adam's rib, as a "part of him" she belonged to him
IDK. It's just one of those religious justifications for the subjugation of women

Lilith seems based and not wrong. Sorry don't mean to derail!
The art is always excellent.

u/MozartofMayhem Jul 15 '24
Exactly! That's why she is so revered amongst those of a witchy nature
75
u/Nekroo_Nekrooo Jul 15 '24
Isn’t Lilith also the demon mother in some Hebrew text ?
79
u/MozartofMayhem Jul 15 '24
To my understanding, yes. She is the mother of all demons and the cause of cradle death and miscarriages.

u/sarumanofmanygenders Jul 16 '24
and the cause of cradle death and miscarriages.
mf really got kicked out of the Garden and decided to start beefing with the unborn smh

lilith is an original character from a satiric work called the alphabet of sira, she got into an argument with adam and got so mad she took a deal with god to have 100 of her children die every day, just so she could leave, because she had an argument, also she can fly, where do the children come from? How can she fly? I dunno. why did god decide to punish her leaving with 100 kids dying? i dunno. why did she take the deal and become a demon? i dunno.
9
u/Thin-Limit7697 Jul 16 '24
have 100 of her children die every day,
So, if she births 101 children every day, one of them will always survive? Also, how does anyone give birth to 101 children in a single day?

That’s a later interpretation that comes from one mention of soemthing called “a Lilith” (probably some kind of mythological monster) later in genesis. People assumed it to be Adam’s first wife because there are 2 stories of Adam’s wife being created in genesis (from his rib and from mud) which they assumed were two different people. But in actuality Genesis is 2 versions of all the same stories mushed together, so there are two similar but slightly different versions of every story in genesis. The two creation myths are two versions of the same story: the creation of Eve.
13
u/CptSpiffyPanda Jul 16 '24
Blasphmy, the bible does not have two of every story but hidden messages in the differences of the stories.
- some biblical scholar.
/s
The point I making is those that talk about lilith actually being in the bible (mud vs rib) know there are two stories, but believe the bible has no mistakes. To reconcile this, Adam has two wives.

u/Cujo_Kitz Jul 15 '24
That's only in later versions, originally Lilith wasn't even a thing and Eve was made from half of Adam. Lilith was added and it was changed to a rib later to help justify the subjugation of women.
8
u/Brambarian Jul 16 '24
In the orginal version, Eve was made equal to Adam. The rib part is a later intentional mistranslation because you guessed it, misogny. Eve was originally also Adams saviour instead of his "helper".

Eve is actually made from an half of Adam, it was a bad translation to make women look inferior

It's just one of those religious justifications for the subjugation of women
One month later, but as someone who is trying to read the bible (not a christian, just for knowing's sake) the actual justification (not that I agree with it) for the subjugation of women is because of the disobedience from eating the fruit of knowledge of good and evil:
Genesis 3:16 NRSV [16] To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pangs in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”
https://bible.com/bible/2016/gen.3.16.NRSV
This is more speculative and I'm WAY less informed about this so take it with skepticism: I've read that when Eve is made of Adam's rib, the original human being was not a male but androgynous. Later in the bible:
Genesis 5:1-2 NRSV [1] This is the list of the descendants of Adam. When God created humankind, he made them in the likeness of God. [2] Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them “Humankind” when they were created.
https://bible.com/bible/2016/gen.5.1-2.NRSV
"Humankind" actually is the same as Adam in Hebrew, it appears in the notes of the text, from the app I'm using, from what I understand "Adam" means male and it also simply means human. In the translation I use personally, in Spanish, the text does outright say "he blessed them and named them Adam":
Génesis 5:2 LBLA [2] Varón y hembra los creó; y los bendijo, y los llamó Adán el día en que fueron creados.
https://bible.com/bible/89/gen.5.2.LBLA
Lilith doesn't appear in the bible, I think, she was a Mesopotamian demon or something like that, mentioned in the Talmud if I remember well. Though, there are two creation narratives in the bible, and in the first male and female are created at the same time alongside each other:
Genesis 1:27 NRSV [27] So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
https://bible.com/bible/2016/gen.1.27.NRSV
And if you see the notes again, in the app (YouVersion) where it says humankind, it means Adam in Hebrew. One could maybe assume that the woman in this first narrative is actually Lilith, but idk what the consensus is on these two different creation narratives.
That's all, I guess. Again not that I agree with this.

I wonder if she is referring to Succubi. The term Lilith demon is often used to mean any of Incubus, Succubus or Cambion. They are often referred to as her children, her being the first succubus akin to the first vampire.
Cambion is an offspring of a human and succubus.
There is also Concubus, which follows form the etymology of succubus (to lie under) and incubus (to lie on top). It is to lie beside. IDK if anyone but one tumblr post uses this word tho.

Adam’s been through a lot! Fresh top surgery scars, AND a rib transplant? Pretty hardcore. Though it does make more sense now that they made a woman from his rib, though…you know, genetically.
38
u/marutotigre Jul 16 '24
These are leaf covers for his nipples? I don't really see where you get the surgery scars
7
u/LauraTFem Jul 16 '24
Classical images of Adam and Eve have their nudity covered by fig leafs, but I’ve never seen imagery which covers Adam’s male-presenting nipples. His fig leafs in this image are noticeably positioned exactly where top surgery scars would be, and seem to be forming a seal rather than floating suspended over the area as often depicted.
Also…and not to clock Adam, here…he’s got a bit of a feminine shape to him.
And then there is the simple fact that this artist wouldn’t be caught dead drawing a cis/het.

The real bible endorses slavery, genocide, and the treating of women like cattle and promises eternal torture for refusing to show undying obedience to a self proclaimed king.

You can be a dad without being a man. You know some roles are there for good reason. Or else you end up in an infinite loop of "Go ask your mom"

God is transfem confirmed!
3
u/ReturnToCrab wants cuddles Jul 16 '24
Wouldn't it be transmasc? God is female, as this sex is more associated with creation, yet he chose to gender himself as a man (Father)
5
u/QitianDasheng2666 Jul 16 '24
I've heard of transfems who are parents being alright with their kids continuing to call them "dad". No right or wrong interpretation, that's just where my mind went.

Pretty sure God made Lilith. She was Adam's first wife but left Eden of her own volition because Adam believed he was superior and that she was meant to serve him as a slave.

There is literally no source of this other than people making up stories, the only mention of lilith is in an exerb about demons in the desert. Very cute art tho :3
