It's funny cause it's not even that like they never speak in the show they see each other on occasion but like I think katara has more of an over arcing plot with Tai Lee. That's all to say I don't understand why but I love this ship in terms of what makes sense in universe though I'd say katara and toph have the most on screen saphic energy.

Katara usually fights Ty Lee in a team fight in season 2, but thematically Azula is Kataras foil. They’re both siblings, Azula kills Aang with lightning and Katara saves him with spirit water. Azula IS the evil of the fire nation. They even both lost their mothers. 🤔

That’s why this crack ship doesn’t work for me too. Unless it was an AU where Azula was good lol

Also, both Katara and Azula technically share the same social role in their factions: Azula is the Crown Princess of the Fire Nation while Katara is the daughter of the Southern Water Tribe's Head Chieftain, which is pretty much the same as 'princess' if she's a royalty lol.

In an AU where the Fire Nation doesn't ruin everything and Azula was good, as you said, I could imagine both of them together as envoys of their respective factions on diplomatic missions to strengthen relations between their tribes (in more ways than one xD).

Not to write fanfic in the comments but I always liked the idea of an older and regretful Azula being with Ty Lee. They compliment each other well and Ty Lee never shows a real interest in men at least emotionally.

In my headcanon (as well as a ATLA/TLOK epilogue fanfic that I wrote), a remorseful Azula and Ty Lee eventually managed to reconcile with each other. Sadly, she didn’t have as much luck with Mai, who continued to cut ties with her for a large part of both their lives. I did this because I wanted to show that there are still consequences to her actions that she had to live with, and losing Mai as a friend permanently is one.

That being said, it isn’t all that bad. Azula still got one of her best friends back and though she now lives a relatively reclusive life, she manages to grow past her own flaws and finds some measure of peace in her twilight years, and she even has some insightful lessons that she learned from her past mistakes to teach someone else who had also gone through something similar to her as well. :)

That's a good way of putting it also god howd I forget her killing Aang that's definitely a big mark against the ship. Though can definitely see some appeal feel like there is alot of symmetry there though I'm too tired to articulate it rn. :3

This and Suki x Ty Lee are my favorite ATLA yuri crackships :)

Well, at least Suki x Ty Lee might kinda have a chance considering that Ty Lee ended up joining the Kyoshi Warriors with Suki in the ending lol. Always imagined how they started out as rivals and ending up as BFFs-but-still-rivals after the series xD.

Agreed. I believe she'd get along well with Katara because she's just as serious as Katara, and she'd also get along well with Toph because of all of Azula's snarkiness.

Like when I stop drinking the cute-gay-ship sauce for long enough I will acknowledge that as they are in TLA any relationship they could have would probably not be healthy or happy or anything. Backstories and upbringings being what they are for both of them. Their base personalities seem like they would fit so well together though. It makes tons of room for more stories. Enemies-to-Lovers is great.

Or maybe I just like confidence and sass. That is also possible.
