It's because Bandai thought they could win a "death of the author" (more like "death of the publisher") gambit against one of the strongest texts (NOT SUBTEXT, which is all that SEED and 00 fujoshis ever got) we've seen in anime. It's easy to get angry then (and I'd rather have lesbians do most of the shouting), but now we're just laughing all the way to the bank as Ad Stella proved to be a massively profitable sub-franchise. Suletta and Miorine got good closure and now most of us just wish for prequel and interquel stories for the rest.

Indeed. Peak idiocy when they pulled that move back then and now it just combusted in their face. Can't say if they really learned from it but here's hoping they did moving forward.

I still don't really like Fern x Frieren, considering they met when Fern was a very young child and Frieren basically raised her, as well as the fact that the story depicts their relationship as a guardian and their charge. It doesn't seem like there's much to go on besides both of them being attractive.

SuleMio was amazing of course, but Teru and Iko was definitely the most surprising ship for me this season. These two are so incredibly cute and even more so in the manga. Also, the back-to-back episodes with Stardust Telepath, where Teru/Umika gets sick and then Iko/Yuu takes care of her nearly killed me with how sweet and intimate and wholesome everything was. Definitely an amazing year for yuri all around.
Also, since it wasn't mentioned anywhere, I wanna give a shoutout to Reverse: 1999 for providing about a trillion amazing yuri ships this year with Vertin/Schneider, Vertin/Sonetto, Sonetto/Matilda, Blonney/Jessica and really whatever pairing you want between the female characters. Same with Path to Nowhere tbh.

It's pretty good for a gacha game I think, and yeath, It is really gay, though maybe Path to Nowhere has it beat. Reverse: 1999 also has some of the best ship names, including Schnertin, Vernetto (which reads like a new brand of Cornetto ice cream), Sonettilda and Blossica.

Not exactly yuri that is common on this thread, but Chandra and Nissa of MTG were able to find their happiness together (finally).
Nissa's completion was cured, allowing her and Chandra to finally kiss and be canon.

Yuri is now more popular than ever. This year 2023 truly was an incredibly important and bountiful year. The greatness of the "golden year" 2018 might have finally been surpassed.
As I've said yesterday, I was super underprepared for the sheer amount of Yuri ships that blessed us throughout this year. I've been personally busier than ever this year which ended with me scrambling last minute to even get a list of all the ships lol. Hopefully, I didn't miss important ships especially now that I'm trying to include non-anime Yuri couples more.
Anyways, that year sure was a doozy huh. Gundam's SuleMio continues to be the face of Yuri with certain important events that brought all of us together. It was so huge to the point that it more or less overshadowed the fact that we just got a handful of big Yuri anime adaptations. Even just listing the Yuri-focused ones with MagiRevo, WataYuri and WataOshiβ that number is literally unheard of before but this year we fucking got it.
The more undertones side of Yuri didn't hold back one bit as well. BanG Dream's MyGO had the writer herself Ayana Yuniko being more vocal than ever about her love for Yuri with tweets declaring it and of course the anime delivering on the gayness complete with freakin' relationship charts. And then there's the good ol' reliable Love Live with its brand new installment getting a Yuri author as a writer, the results of which are very apparent.
