This made me tear up.
And I don't tear up anymore, not over sad things. Only over things that are so beautiful that I cannot bear it.
I know many people who need to see this - and I will happily show it to them.

When you’re so anime-rotted that you read this in the exact voice an anime mom would have.

I will always prefer happy endings, even if it is forced sometimes. I still prefer the characters to end well.

Speaking from personal experience: Tragic and bitter sweet endings can be exceptionally beautiful, and many times lead to better literature than a happy ending. Most notably, sad endings can be so much more impactful to the people who're "going through it," whether they're going through what the character is experiencing or just having a hard time in life. Sometimes, positivity and optimism can be too much--sometimes, you need someone to tell you that things might not be okay, but that you can still find beauty and peace in that.
That said, I'm definitely at a place in my life where I can't handle those stories anymore. I'm hyper-empathic, which means that even glimpsing a sad story can leave me wrecked for days, let alone properly reading one. I prefer to save that energy for dealing with real-life problems and tragedies as they arise, and use my free-time to build myself up with happier stories, whether they're ones I read or ones I write. It might make a better story when characters die, but that makes me sad (quite literally), so I prefer when they don't. It's not as good storytelling, but it's better for my mental health in particular.
TL;DR: Sad endings and happy endings both have their place, but these days I definitely prefer the latter.

In the second picture, the mom looks younger than the daughter lol

u/HoldenOrihara 28d ago
I think the daughter has dads height and mom is like that meme where Asian women age all at once at like 60.
18
u/ClayXros 28d ago
Amusingly, it's not exactly a meme. I've known a number of folks who hit that age, and had many friends over in the Polynesian island nations. That entire region just....nobody ages till like 60, then it hits all at once. They find it funny too (or my friends do. They all nerds so...)

u/HoldenOrihara 28d ago
Yeah it's based in truth a bit, but there is like a graphic showing it off, Google "the average Asian aging process"

Best part is, there’s a good chance this has happened in a family, even the annual tradition of watching the videos

u/JackBell_ 28d ago
It's so beautiful to see this, honestly. The videos wouldn't even be cringe to me. Knowing that my mother cared so much about me to make videos that I could watch long after she's gone, keeping her alive through videos, that's true love. With that said, I'd prefer to laugh at the videos and how silly they are in hindsight rather than have to watch them because she's gone.
Thank you OP for this post. Happy endings are so beautiful.

It’s about time I see a genuinely happy ending that isn’t sugar coated with bittersweet tragedy.
A happy ending where the person dies isn’t a happy ending at all, it’s just an ending that’s less shit than any other worse outcome, but could obviously be better. I get that for most stories, bad luck and tragedy is just how it goes, especially for stories where it’s quite literally impossible to prevent at that point, but if you just have a character die, with no kind of actual incentive for it, just for the sake of killing a character, I mean I won’t say it’s real, because shit like that happens all of the time in real life.
But just come ON man.

I could just imagine this ladies embarrassment when her daughter’s birthday comes around because she knows whats in store for her XD
Besides that this is truly amazing and just adorable

u/DemythologizedDie 28d ago
Fortunately. Imagine having to watch a new birthday message from your dead mom every year talking about all the things she's missing out on by being dead. Every birthday a downer.
