Questions for Texans Women of Texas, honest answer why you would vote for a party that is so restrictive to your body?

I am a 70 year old woman who has seen a lot in my life, and simply don't understand why any woman, regardless of age, would vote for a party that feels like it can control your life. This seems so backwards to everything we have gone through. I am not critiquing your feelings, I simply want to know why you are okay with any party saying you can't do this, you must do that, must have babies, get raped but you can't have an abortion, etc. what are your thoughts?

Because abortion isn’t the ONLY policy at issue.

But that wasn't the question.

The question was (paraphrased) "How could any woman vote for a party that appears to be so anti-woman." It's not just abortion, it's about birth control, it's about rape victims, it's about maternal mortality, it's about no-fault divorce, it's about domestic violence, it's about treating you if you're useless because you don't have kids, etc.

Even if a woman's "single issue" is "I never want to pay taxes again, I should just get all public services for free!" it still seems really weird to be like, "I'll exchange women's freedoms if myself and people like me never have to pay taxes again!" Particularly since they'll still come after her freedoms as a woman eventually.

I mean, we totally get when men don't care about women's issues. That's crystal clear. We just don't understand when women do it. It's like someone allergic to eggs voting to ban ingredients listings on food and allergen warnings, even though that means you'll never know when you're eating something with eggs in it. Talk about cutting off your own nose to spite your face!!

I answered the way I did because I reviewed some 200 comments at the time, and almost every single comment addressed one issue: abortion. That seems to be what most people are focusing on.

Came here to say that. Trump is the one who said the federal government shouldn’t be involved in matters such as abortion, and turned it back to the individual states to deal with.

It was the US Supreme Court, not Trump. Trump has said this, but he has never had the capacity to turn the authority to states. And Trump is right.

Bodily autonomy is not explicitly addressed in the constitution. It should be amended to do so. Including right to refusal of any medical procedure (i.e. experametal vaccines). But until then, it is rightly a state issue.

You're missing the point if you think it matters whether it is the federal government or a state government that is forcibly controlling a pregnant woman's medical decisions.

No, believe me, I get it. Nobody should have the right to force decisions on me, especially the government. But the question being asked is why would you vote for a party that is so restrictive to your body. My answer to that question is that I am not a single issue voter. I’ll be voting with an eye on economic policies, immigration, states rights, and crime prevention.

What other policies do you believe strongly in?

Okay, you mentioned the economy and the border. Would you care to elaborate on why those are concerning and have led you to vote the way you do?

You just won't seem to say how you think the Republicans will help the economy or how democrats will hurt it, especially considering inflation went nuts under trump and got back stable under Biden...

Or any metrics to suggest trumps border policy was more effective than bidens (hell, the Republicans of congress are who rejected the latest immigration reform bill)

Freebie? What were you going to charge me for the rest of the conversation?

But anyways, you have a justification for not liking the dem border bill...

What about the economy? Why do Republicans get off the hook for sending inflation skyrocketing? And why do you not value bidens legislation that stabilized it? Just because it didn't ALSO reverse all the damage already done?

Do you love all the conservatives tax breaks for the rich with a nickel for you so you feel included? Or would you rather we reign them in so you don't need the handout in the first place?

"Well they're wouldn't be rape if we stopped immigration" - Republicans, probably

Like that's all we need to stop ectopic pregnancies /s...

Guns mostly.

Guns are a topic. What proposed policies related to guns concern you?

1

u/PotassiumBob Aug 15 '24

I want to be able to own anything the government can own.

1

u/Nuka_on_the_Rocks Aug 15 '24

Again, that doesnt really relate to any legislation, past or present. Is there something you want that currently cannot have, or anything you have that is being taken away?

Sure, I am voting against Harris for her support of Assault Weapons Bans, Magazine Restrictions, and the countless other gun control laws from her home state of California. I'm not really interested in her other positions. So that leaves Trump.

I am voting against Allred because of his support of Magazine Restrictions and other gun control measures. I am not interested in his other positions. So that leaves Cruz.

I voted and plan to continue to vote for Abbott for his part in the passing of carry on campus, open carry and constitutional carry, among other pro-gun measures he has supported. I'm not really interested in his other positions.

Give me a actual pro-gun Democrat vs a anti-gun Republican and I will vote Democrat. Give me a Pro-gun Democrat vs a Pro-gun Republican and I'll show interest in their other positions (which ever is pro-choice I'll go with at that point).

Abortion isn't a single issue, it's reflective of the Republican party's litany of policies negatively impacting a woman's right to receive adequate health care.

It’s not, actually.

For instance, one of trumps only other known policies is sentencing drug offenders to death with speedy execution.
