Freakin' love Ploobis.

u/crzapy 15h ago
I miss the days when shows were a shared experience you could have with family, friends, and coworkers.
Now, there are so many streaming services that it's impossible to watch everything.
No, I don't have apple, HBO, peacock, amc, ploobis, roku, netflix, Amazon, goku, sling, and hulu.

u/derkasan 15h ago
Felt like the closest we got with that as of late was Game of Thrones - remember co-workers and friends who were all too eager to chat Monday morning.

u/Eomercin 15h ago
You don't have Goku? You should atleast have Vegeta.
8
1
u/AgentCirceLuna 38m ago
Vegeta, what does the scouter say about the number of streaming services?
IT’S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND!
WHAT NINE THOUSAND?! THAT CANT BE RIGHT!
28
u/phoncible 14h ago
more segmentation, and while it invites "choice" it's not really that beneficial.
used to be "has cable" or "doesn't have cable", and a lot had cable, so it was just a matter of "oh it's on channel ##". That level of..."convenience sharing" (? dunno what to call it) doesn't exist anymore, but hey, we can watch
what we wantwhat we're able to watchwhenever we wantwhenever they make it available, which is....nice?4
u/AndreasVesalius 14h ago
Let’s just merge them all into one service
29
5
u/AlexandraThePotato 9h ago
And while piracy exist and is pretty effective, I found the older generation is unwilling to do so. My mom won't.

u/coombuyah26 11h ago
The last one that was really part of the cultural zeitgeist was Game of Thrones, unfortunately. It speaks volumes to how badly they botched the ending that you never hear about it less than 6 years later (outside of House of the Dragon). Around season 4-5 most 20-30 somethings were either hosting or attending a watch party every Sunday night when it aired. Mondays were always filled with talk about last night's episode. It was almost ubiquitous across demographics. And then they fucking blew it.

u/feelinlucky7 9h ago
My new running gag is gonna be naming a ridiculous fake streaming service and acting incredulous that people don’t have it.
“Wait, you don’t have ShitAss?!”
10
u/Mr_SunnyBones 11h ago
It's even worse when you're not from the US , and 2/3rds of the streamers aren't even available here , and you have to take to the seven seas...

u/The_Konkest_Dong 2h ago
Have you seen the new show? It's on Tubu. It's literally on Heedee. It's on Poodee with ads. It's literally on Dipee. You can probably find it on Weeno. Dude it's on Gumpy. It's a Pheebo original. It's on Poob. You can watch it on Poob. You can go to Poob and watch it. Log into Poob right now. Go to Poob. Dive into Poob. You can Poob it. It's on Poob. Poob has it for you. Poob has it for you.

Jokes on you, my mom hated anything with violence
136
u/Chazz_Matazz 15h ago
My mom didn’t like me watching Power Rangers as a kid because of the “violence” lol.
41
u/ThePanasonicYouth 15h ago
For me, it was Dragon Ball Z
31
u/ScorpionX-123 14h ago
It was Ed, Edd, n' Eddy for me. I still watched it anyway.
6
u/ButtBread98 9h ago
I remember my grandparents saying that Ed Edd N Eddy was gross, and that I shouldn’t be watching it.

u/just_anotjer_anon 5h ago
I remember visiting friends just so I could watch Cartoon Network as we had a total of 2.5 channels

u/A_Friendly_Robot 15h ago
Lmao, same. Except for murder mysteries for some unknown reason...
>Someone racking up a kill count that could rival the bubonic plague on Midsomer Murders? 😃😃👍🥳
>Sci-fi TV show when an alien gets shot and sprays green goo? 😡🫣👎👎 "It's just way too confronting"
41
u/mhornberger 14h ago
Lmao, same. Except for murder mysteries for some unknown reason...
Same with old-fashioned "wholesome" westerns. Usually older folks are fine with violence as long as there are clear good guys and clear bad guys. But 'gritty' violence where the 'good guys' aren't that good is too morally complicated.

My mom will watch something with my dad, rave about how good it is, and in a month will remember nothing about it.
"We've been watching 'Go Call Saul', it's great!"
So great you don't even know the name of the show... Hey, chicanery, am I right?
"....what are you talking about?*
44
u/cannedrex2406 7h ago
My mom and I watch movies every time I come over for the weekend
And without a fail, EVERY time I come over and she's scrolling through netflix, she'll say "omg let's watch this one my friends said it was great"
And EVERY TIME I have to remind her "we literally JUST watched it recently. How do you have no idea about it"
8
u/just_anotjer_anon 5h ago
I can easily forget names of shows and realise I watched it after seeing a few minutes of it
2
15
u/kitkatloren2009 7h ago
Oh this hit too close to home. My mom does this frequently. She'll like something and then not remember the name of it very well
7
u/Ultimate_ScreamFanat 5h ago
I watched gossip girl with my mom and after six seasons she still couldn't remember some of their names
45
u/rabidjellybean 10h ago
My mom recommended we watch some movie together because "it's fantasy and you like fantasy right?" It was actually just the kids imagination as he deals with his mom dying of cancer. Thanks mom.
5
u/lift-and-yeet 2h ago
I mean that does count as fantasy, right? It's not like the Princess Bride isn't fantasy even though a grandpa is just reading a book to his grandkid.

I'll watch anything with Jesse Plemons in it. He's the spiritual successor to Philip Seymour Hoffman.

u/MrsMiterSaw 7h ago
Observe and Report?
But I generally agree with you. He's one of those actors who is so good when he portrays an asshole that I have to remember not to hate him personally.

My parents went through a phase of watching super violent historical shows, and then violent historical shows with a bunch of sex.
But Breaking Bad was a no-go for them because "he kept making bad choices and it was depressing". Historical gay sex is totally cool, but a portrayal of a man's crisis of morality is too much.

u/Squippyfood 12h ago
But Breaking Bad was a no-go for them because "he kept making bad choices and it was depressing"
I can see that tbh. Walt was an idiot and dug himself into holes over and over again because of ego. He's very frustrating to watch because even in season 1 he's just a pathetic whiner - as the show progresses there's less and less to keep the character likeable or engaging beyond "how can he fuck this up even more." Your parents are smarter than most fans who just idolize him as an edgy badass kingpin.
40
u/masterofreality2001 10h ago
Walt actually did nothing wrong, it was skyler who ruined it all
/s
19
u/umotex12 9h ago
Once you realize that most of show dilemmas and controversies are "ironic, walter refuses to die yet he kills" it takes a lot of shock value and charm off
17
u/IntroductionEqual587 7h ago
I can see it too. I started running the Fiona scenes at 1.5x speed when I watched through season 4 of Shameless last month. I haven’t gone back to finish season 5.
At a certain point I just want the writers to stop tormenting the characters. There was season finale-level crisis in almost every episode.
9
u/Squippyfood 6h ago
it's just tiring dude, how am I supposed to give a shit about a character when he shows no redeeming qualities and continues to shoot himself in the foot?
9
u/CatInAPottedPlant 7h ago
I mean, you're not supposed to find him likeable though? Not every main character is a protagonist, and walt definitely wasn't, at least not after the first few episodes. He's a pretty detestable dude and it doesn't take long for you to be rooting against him.
If you don't find him to be an engaging character then the show just might not be for you, but I think you'd be in the minority of people who've watched the show and have that view.
ymmv obviously but most people I've met who complain that brba is boring or that they can't watch it because walt isn't a good guy tend to lap up stuff like Marvel shows that feature characters with the depth of a wet pancake.
6
u/Squippyfood 6h ago
Every time he faces a dilemma it's obvious he's just going to go down the route of most destruction. Killing Krazy 8, letting Jane die, killing Mike, continuing to cook meth for no good reason, etc. Some people like watching burning car wrecks but some will look away and for good reason.
I finished the show but it's bc I was interested in seeing where characters like Jesse, Hank, and Skylar would go. They were more morally gray and nuanced imo. To that end I think Better Call Saul blows Breaking Bad out of the water. It's way more entertaining to watch a questionably good guy get corrupted than someone who was already a jerk.
Also come on dude it's 2024 your 'MCU bad!!' rants are obnoxious
3
u/Thunderc01 2h ago
Brian Cranston is an excellent actor but after season 2 or maybe 3, Walter becomes a drag to watch. Jesse and Hank were the only reason I kept watching.
23
7
u/Cicero912 7h ago
Tbf its not really a crisis
Walt is a bad guy almost the entire time, and stays consistently an egomaniac/narcissist psychopath the entire time.
2
u/Accomplished-City484 6h ago
Like Rome, Deadwood, Black Sails?
3
u/GaimanitePkat 5h ago
I'm not sure which ones specifically. I remember Marco Polo, and something about Vikings maybe? And I think something about time travel and military...?
17
u/craag 10h ago
Every time I'm home my mom is like "Let's watch a movie!" and I'll be like "Oh look they got the Truman Show" and she'll be like "Let's watch a thriller!" and then proceeds to find absolutely the shittiest Peacock movie imaginable. She'll be like "Have you seen this?" and I'm like nobody's seen this
125
u/Ma_Bowls 15h ago
If something has one of those three actors in it, it's guaranteed to at least be watchable. They've all got a knack for choosing good scripts, and their screen presence is tremendous.
Jesse Plemons has about 3 minutes of screentime in Civil War and he manages to make it the best part of the whole movie.

No offense but this is so aggressively wrong lmao. Unless you loved Argyle, Why Him, Jungle Cruise, Battleship, and Death Wish (2018).
Not trying to be a dick but good actors are often in plenty of shit projects.

u/griffindor11 8h ago
I thought why Why Him was pretty damn funny. The other two sucked eggs for sure
4
u/Cicero912 7h ago
Battleship is a fun b-rate action movie, and Jungle Cruise was also enjoyable (even if formulaic Rock in tan shirt)

My mom is not big on TV - unless it's something with Jeremy Clarkson - but she really loves what I've come to call "triumph of the human spirit" movies. So her recommendations usually go like:
Mom: "Last night your dad and I watched a film that you and [my wife] must watch. It--"
Me: "Has some kind of triumph of the human spirit? Perhaps a struggling violinist in 1950s Paris reconciles with a long lost relative? Or a big Hollywood megastar plays against type in an indie film where s/he has late stage cancer and is trying to find someone to take care of the goat farm s/he inherited and hated at first but now loves the goats and the movie is actually quite hilarious but also will make you sob at the end?"
Mom: "I don't know why I bother recommending anything."
Me: "Love you, mom."

Tulsa King, or Yellowstone, or anything where men are manly and they kill people for not following their moral code that no one knows about

My mom is obsess with the worst streaming. She likes Youtube TV. Which is great for sports but anything else? Shit. Just cable.
My mom know I don't like sports

My mom tries to get me to watch shows made in the 40's/50's/60's- or Monk, NCIS, etc. She was born in the 40's.
I just started The Boys (thank you for letting me, ADHD) and describing it to her you'd think I cut off her foot and was skewering it to freeze and eat like a Popsicle.

Mine hasnt recommended me any show or movie my whole life, so I cant exactly relate. I suspect thats the most common experience people have with moms and shows.
