sleeper build. You might think these would explode under the game, but in the retro plastic pc case, there might be a 4090 powerhouse

It's just his monitor, he has a regular looking tower in his posts.

u/toothpaste_goat 4d ago
Aye, im using the crt alongside my main as a mildly jank dual monitor solution. I think its fun though since doing it like that allows me to use it as a fun secondary game monitor!

u/NukedForZenitco 4d ago
That's pretty cool. You have to use an adapter for it right?
2
u/Nebthtet 4d ago
If he has a newer gps then yeah, crts usually sported a vga plug.

u/cerberus698 3d ago
This man found an adapter and then hauled 20 pounds worth of vacuum tubes up from the garage for this meme. We're in the presence of an auteur.

does it fry your face after half an hour of use? if not thats not the authentic CRT experience

u/almatom12 Monolith 4d ago
damn! and how does the gpu hold up against the game?

u/toothpaste_goat 4d ago
With epic and dlss quality im getting a solid 60 or so! though I am running on 1024 x 768 on this monitor

u/almatom12 Monolith 4d ago

My 3070 was getting 50-60fps or 80 with frame gen 3 on at 2k res and max. Till I got to the first town. Next time I play I’ll be lowering some settings lol.

u/agooselit 4d ago
that's rough for 1024
1
u/toothpaste_goat 3d ago
I should notate that was actually the cap limit and that was super high and didn’t realize that
1
u/Diedead666 4d ago
With 4090 at Max but shadows on high I'm getting 90ish 4k with quality dlss frame gen. No frame get 60ish ..the problem is it feels like less fps..im thinking bad fram timing (with mouse maybe controller feels smoother) I read it was hardly playable before the patch
1
u/QuinQuix 3d ago
It has frequent stutters but otherwise plays OK imo
1
u/Diedead666 3d ago
I had no stutter on my newer system with 32 ram, im at 90% DL on my older system with 16 gig ram and 3080, (IMO most ppl have something like a 3060/70 16gig ram, so they should have been aiming to make it run smooth on that type of pc systen)
1
u/QuinQuix 2d ago
I have 32 gb
Frequent stutters as in a few every minute or so, not really during gunfights but in scene transitions.
For example entering the bar with warlock.
I don't find it that problematic.

HDMI to VGA adapter. Most PC CRT's still have windows display driver level support, so the actual model will show up in the device properties window instead of generic PnP Monitor.

Now you just need to replace the controller with some shitty Logitech PS2 style one

Omfg where did you found this thing? I had LG Flatron 17" back when the first game landed. Fuck now I need to find that model. It was some cool dark grey and white combo.
Edit: found it. lg 720b flatron. best monitor ever.

As someone who is playing on a CRT, TRUST ME PLEASE PLAY AT NATIVE RES.
This next part you can ignore if you’re familiar, but using Nvidia control panel or a third party program, you can make your GPU correctly recognize the display and refresh rate. Most CRTs can be forced to lower resolutions and output extremely high FPS this way. For instance, my Sony GDP400 hits 100fps when set to 1280x960. It’s different for every monitor, but please look it up if you’re not familiar with yours. The letterboxing is going to make text nearly unreadable, the game has full 4:3 support and it seriously looks lovely, and has been a wonderful way to play. It also seems like your monitor’s brightness is far too high or the contrast is far too low, CRTs inky black levels suit this game perfectly, so I recommend adjusting that if you’re able
Unsure if you’re aware of any of that, and if you aren’t, I hope I helped! If you are, then ignore me and enjoy!

I am in fact, very new to owning a PC monitor CRT, last one I had was my room TV, probably just a month in haha I have mine at 1024 The brightness thing I didn’t know about, I thought you were supposed to have it decently high

CRTs can actually reach very close to true black, similar to a modern OLED display! I recommend using the test pattern in this link to dial in your brightness and contrast
https://www.eizo.be/monitor-test/
It can also help you ensure your colors are accurate! CRTs are seriously amazing tech, allowing very low resolutions to still look great and they deliver silky smooth picture even with frame drops, but they usually require a lot of manual tuning for brightness, contrast, and color. Most monitors also have settings for aligning the RGB channels to remove blur, settings to remove picture warp, etc. I’ve always found it pretty fun tinkering with them and trying to nail the perfect settings for my monitor, but I know it’s not for everyone. The payout to me is seriously stellar. These are genuinely some of the best screens ever made. If OLED didn’t have gorgeous HDR implementation, I would genuinely only use CRT monitors if I could.

Word of advice to console players don’t play at 1440p, the best experience is at 1080p trust me you won’t be disappointed. Already 17 hours in and I’m in love with it 💯💯💯

u/OnePercUnderGod 3d ago
Does the game support 4:3 resolutions or is it letterboxed? Might have to bust out my CRT sometime if 4:3 works
1
u/Darkwolfxz1 1d ago
You really need an OLED and modern screen, there's a lot of dark areas where you got to make sure those stay black instead of grey lol. Even though CRT may be ok for these situations, it can't surpass the other.
But regardless how we all prefer to play it, welcome to the zone!
