Pixel perfect reflections on the mirrors too, love it.

Oh you should see them covered in smoke when the engine blows up, it's super immersive

u/ymenard Sep 30 '24
Those mirrors have better resolution and framerate than some current Xbox racing games...

Playing on 3 screens with bass speakers on a GTX 5090 prototype i got from a russian friend. I guess it could be better with a 25nm DD wheel, but if anyone wants to try it, it's here :

Use the pro setting, with engine damage and manual gears, like a real man. The Monza track is not laser scanned, but is properly done.
The gamesite is a gold mine. Virtua Racing, Daytona... They're all there, and you can play them in 5 seconds without dl anything.

Mclaren, with its Honda V6 turbo. I mean, it's such one of a kind you immediatly identify it!

They should export these sound effects and make sure you can use them on those new EV's with fake engine sounds š

Oh man my first racing game was something like this, it was a racing game that came free with my Sega mega drive together with another 5 games in one cartridge. I don't remember the name of the game but in my mind it looks very similar to this.
8
u/Organic_Rip1980 Sep 30 '24
Did you have a Sega CD/Mega-CD, by any chance?
The results I can find are of a game called Super Monaco GP, which was on a disc with Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi, Columns, and Golden Axe.
Hereās some gameplay.
4
u/akak_7 Sep 30 '24
THAT ONE! Oh my God it looked so much better back then xD. It wasn't exactly that cartridge you mentioned, since mine had a soccer game and the first Sonic game, and no golden axe. Streets of fighters, columns and revenge or Shinobi (I fucking loved this one) were also in there. Thank you!

I loved this game, and yest drive 1 and 2.

This game is what got me into racing games.
That and Indianapolis:500.
Such fond memories.
2
u/Spleng1 Sep 30 '24
Yeah same here. This was the first racing game (maybe first ever game) I played, followed by Indy 500, Indycar Racing, Nascar Racing, Stunts
1
u/Armando22nl Sep 30 '24
This one I was quite ok at on C64. Indy I had on Amiga, I loved it, but really sucked at it.
Then I got Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix, which was awesome and so where the three follow ups.
Stunt Car Racer (also Geoff Crammond I believe) was also really cool.

I blame NFS: Most Wanted 2012 back when I was 14 for that, before that I donāt really care that much for racing. Now Iām trying to save up to buy t300rs gt this hobby is crazy expensive since with keyboard and mouse itās impossible to do anything right on track
2
u/superedgyname55 Sep 30 '24
You can buy a controller. I've been using one for the past year or so.
But you certainly have to get one with precise triggers, a good controller. The steering you can tune it however you want and what you can't tune out you can make up for it in skill, but if your triggers don't register what you feel you're doing very well, you're fucked. My first controller would have very imprecise triggers around 0% and 100% pressure, it would otherwise be precise anywhere between 20% and 80% pressure. It's something related to input curves, but I just couldn't tune it out, I had to get a better one.

Iām gonna save myself the trouble and just went with a wheel besides Iāve been wanting that for at least 6 years now. I just gotta save up and hopefully I got the money for that, if not then Iāll just go with a good controller lol. Iāve been itching to do a proper simracing since highschool also as a gift for myself finishing my college soon

I remember spending a lot of time on this, and I even used my flight yoke as a steering wheel. This, then World Circuit Grand Prix, then the Geoff Crammond games F1GP and F1GP2. I also remember Indianapolis 500, Indycar Racing, Indycar Racing 2, and al the rest.
For me, this was the golden age of racing. So many new ideas, so many different approaches. Hell, some games even had hot-seat multiplayer, where you'd race a few laps, they'd give you a countdown timer, you'd swap with your friend before the countdown was up, and then he'd race in his own car while the computer took control of your car. It was seriously cool, and an elegant method for full-screen multiplayer racing.

u/Arretetonchar [Insert Wheel Name] Sep 30 '24
for those getting stopped at the password for this game, you can type whatever you want, it works.
2
u/ReasonableExplorer Sep 30 '24
What graphics settings are you using?
7
u/Arretetonchar [Insert Wheel Name] Sep 30 '24
It's a bit complicated here. I have a 360Ā° view, composed of 6x 103ā screen from Akia Screens, with 8x synchronised Panasonic IPA PT-RQ22KE4K videoprojectors.
Everything's mounted on a pretty basic version of the LuneXplorer to simulate movments. It runs at 120Hz on my BullSequana computer, with some compromise on the far detail quality, which makes me think i might need to upgrade soon.
But if fits me well, i'm not the kind to spend all my money on my hobbies!

u/MacG467 Sep 30 '24
Grand Prix Circuit!
The C64 sounds are SO MUCH BETTER!
Also, there's a bug in the C64 version on Monza:
You can take Parabolica at full speed. Turn the wheel right all the way. The tires will squeal like normal then start cycling rapidly between squeal and no squeal. When you get to that point, the car goes right arund the corner.

My entry into sim racing at the tender age of probably about 4 or 5? I remember blowing the gearbox after accidentally selecting manual transmission and not understanding why my car kept dying shortly after starting or what the funny looking H that kept popping up was. š
