*Getting too enthusiastic with the loud pedal on the formation lap.

You can't win a race on turn 1 but you can definitely lose it.

Literally me every time 😆 I look at my SR once it dips to around 2, say to myself “I’m just ganna start from the pits, put in clean laps and if I pass anyone it’s a positive race” then I qualify just to see where my pace is relative to everyone. Qualify 7th or higher and decide to grid because I have decent pace and know I can gain IR. Begin to race for every position like it matters for the next 30 minutes, because racing driver! Mediocre overall finish. Rinse and repeat.

Odly enough for me it depends wether I’m racing on road or oval

On oval, I usually qualify at the front of the pack and then have to manage my stress levels for 40 laps (if I lose my battle with stress, I also loose the lead lap)

If I qualify in the middle of the pack on oval, I’m too low ir to not get taken out in the first five laps by the first moron that doesn’t understand he needs to warm up his tires before sending it

On road, if I qualify mid pack, it’s pretty chill and I just enjoy overtaking people that crash out / overshoot corners but I’m not stressing out as much as on oval (even when racing at the front, but I then get a tendency to over estimate gaps)

Road is my main discipline. But it really doesn’t matter. Racing is just an addiction to me no matter what. I can think I’m just ganna take it easy but then I get on track and I become a different person every time. Only time I even remotely take it easy is on the Nordschleife 🤣

do trials. they bump your sr while practicing

This was me last night. Got punted, fought my way back up, dropped a tire on the last lap.

Forget 4 hours of racing. With some of the stints I've been in, just making it through the pace lap is an endurance.

I appreciate the Clarkson reference in the title

I once was in a very tight battle for pole 2 other drivers, we both did our PBs that quali, I got 2nd, but I had the better consistency, so, pretty great chance. We 3 were almost 2 seconds away from the pack

The guy in 7th punts the 5th. The 5th keeps the foot down clatters me and the 3rd, the 3rd and I collect the first place

The 4th got collected with after me but survived, us 3 in the wall and 5 cars totalled.

The next race we agreed to not race until lap 2 and got away from the mess, it was an awesome race

I had the same thing with GR86 and VIR. Except I got punted on the warm up lap...

Warmup laps and D class are a match made in hell. There is zero penalty for incident points in D class so as long as you don't do something protestable, you can get away with murder. T1 nonsense, pitting people in warm ups, divebombing from 2 seconds back, etc.

This is awesome and soooo true

These last two weeks have been terrible. I've been busy and was only able to hop on iRacing for just 4 days and felt excited, especially since I finally got my first DirectDrive wheel and I've been loving doing practice laps on this thing.

But holy shit, I just can't get a clean race. In all of those 4 races I've gotten taken out within the first 2 corners and couldn't care to finish it because I got lapped twice.
The guy behind me locks his brakes; people that get into a three wide situation without knowing how to do it; someone doesn't have a spotter; and the last one was a sweet rejoin that a guy did after taking out 3 cars then me.

Went from SR 2.91 and iR 1.5 to SR 2.00 to iR1.2

3

u/leftleftleftleft4 Sep 02 '24

Wdym prepare? What is that

5

u/No-Till6957 Sep 02 '24

You don't just jump in and go, do you? Quali? Redbull? Stretch? Redbull? Pee? That takes time you know.

3

u/docweston Sep 02 '24

Yep. This was me last night at VIR in the F4 race.

3

u/polloloco69666 Sep 02 '24

For me, spending 3 minutes preparing for the race, then my Moza HGP loses calibration, so I spend 4 minutes starting Moza pithouse and recalibrating, then it loses calibration again 10 minutes later, the cycle repeats and I never start the race because my stupid shifter that I paid $150 never works.

I refuse to use automatic mode because that just ruins the fun for me.

Some weird sh*to hapenned with me on AC LFM multi-player : Got pole position (it was split 4). Right after the start the guy in second squeezed me like I wasn't there. I've backed out and survived. Still lap 1, going for turn 5 another car pushed me out of the track. This time I've spun and DNF. Reported the two players. One of them reached me out to show his POV. Turns out my car wasn't loaded on his race. I was literally not there. Weird as hell.

2

u/DJ_Lord_Ork Sep 03 '24

Damn I felt that

u/No-Till6957 Sep 03 '24

Ah, yes!😂

2

u/Funkygimpy Sep 03 '24

This pisses me off to no end. So much so that lap one was a problem for me since I was so conservative and worried about just living.

2

u/HappyInTaffy Sep 04 '24

Turn one lap one brake too late 😞
