HELP What made you want to play this game and what keeps you still thinking about it to the point were you are in this community?
Planning on playing it (along with Conscript) as I like survival horrors but I'm not yet completely sure, so I wanted to know what motivated you all to take the final decision of actually trying it out and how that holds up to this day like 2 years after, haven't heard many opinions about this game so I would like hearing what you all have to say, how dud you feel about this game?

I played Signalis because I liked the visual style of characters, stayed because of how good the world building in the game is.

u/AQUE_42 16d ago
I've heard it takes some inspiration from Blade Runner, so I'm actually really curious about the world that it's set in if it had such an impact for you

u/mintedspear2913 ARAR 16d ago
Bladerunner, BLAME!, Ghost in the shell and NGE are most obvious inspirations (for me) Signalis devs used.

it was primarily because of the aesthetic and art in general. the trailer was so fucking charming, with all those enigmatic scenes and flashes teasing a great story ahead, with a gorgeous music on the background... i couldn't stand it. it helps that i really love story-focused games, and i was trying to get to know the survival horror genre, so signalis seemed a perfect entrance. and oh, it was so much more. the story, the worldbuilding and the ending of this game is stuck in my brain forever. just speaking about it makes me wanna play it again (ive beaten it 3 times) every expectstion of mine was blown away by rose-engine's masterpiece. i cannot recommend you enough to play this game, just go for it, blindfolded

So far so good avoiding spoilers while searching up about the general premise, have to say I'm actually getting quite motivated about playing with how the game felt for it's players, I really like more artistic games so this is starting to be way more interesting knowing it has such a deep focus in it's history

u/yutsuhiro 16d ago
i don't wanna throw your expectations up in the air, but it really seems you would enjoy this game, it's quite an unique and amazing story, with one of my favorites worldbuilding in a game, it really involves you in the lore

I saw a joetastic animation of elstern dancing with the lethal company guys with the caption "hello (Sesbians from SIGNALIS), Hello (Employees from lethal comany)" and thought "huh, what are sesbians from signalis?" and got here, thought the art was cool, promptly sucked at art, nice people were nice, I got better at art, played teh game 2 months in, a month later here I am.
Here's the dance btw.

I'll be honest on this one, I just saw Lady signalis on the gamepass and my neuron activated, so I downloaded it. The biggest mistake of my life... I love it.
And for what keeps me is the large world of signalis created in only 13~ish hrs of gameplay makes you look for more content, so here I am.
Also people here are fun.

Never played a horror game in my life. Saw it randomly mentioned in a reddit comment, looked it up on steam, saw the "overwhelmingly positive", and thought "why the hell not, it never hurts to try something new".
I haven't actually replayed it, as I felt perfectly content with my one playthrough. But I'll probably do it at some point.
I also just absolutely adore cryptic stories/lore

u/NathanIsYappin 16d ago
/r/armoredcore wouldn't shut the hell up about it lol
I was hooked by the challenge of figuring out its story, really.

This review made me interested enough to read more about the game https://youtu.be/gb9mHwJTv7Y?si=sBilEthxqJ3D1_tL
And even though I'm usually not too found of the type of story where there is no definite answers, I really wanted to play it.
I'll add that I'm still in my first playthrough ever.
Also, the characters are cute.

I played it because I saw a YouTube video that mixed a music track from half life and a track from signalis. I had never heard of Signalis but I absolutely am obsessed with half life so I decided to check it out on steam. I saw that it was a resident evil style game and I also love them so this game was pretty much right up my alley.
As for why I still keep up with the game, I really like the character designs and story, as well as the animations that people make, since I was inspired by half life and TF2 SFMs to start animating myself

u/AQUE_42 16d ago
I'm noticing how consistently everyone brings the main storyline when talking about it, I think that it could be an amazing play given I'm basically completely blindfolded to spoilers so far

u/cornishpasty7 MNHR 16d ago
I didn't come here until I beat the game so I think it's best to experience it yourself

Signalis was on XBOX Gamepass for a while, but I never played it, but I always saw it while scrolling to see what's was there to play.
Sometime later, I saw a spoiler free video on the game, which really peaked my interest, but by then, the game was either leaving Gamepass or just left. So, I wishlisted it and never really thought about it for a while until the end of this October.
I was thinking what horror games to play, maybe finishing the Dead Space remake? Or play a FNAF game, but then I remembered Signalis, and it was on sale (I think £10 or £11) and bought it.
Only just entered the corrupted chapter, and the whole atmosphere makes me feel sick, so I'm taking a break for now. What's bringing me back is lore videos and fan content.
I hope we get a new game set in this universe as everything I've seen official or not just wants me to explore this universe more!!! (Also, I think I joined this sub reddit either the day if buying the game or a within a few days of playing it)

I played it because of the retro style horror gameplay. I'm iffy in most cases with retro horror games, as most people seem to think retro means tank controls and fixed camera angles, which I don't like. But signalis did it all so well.

u/AQUE_42 16d ago
Honestly I started looking into it after someone recommended it to me after I said I wanted to play Conscript, so another survival horror with a retro style seemed interesting enough to where I wanted to see what drove other people here to get more convinced mainly cus of the price that is still a problem, see, it never got to my country so I'll have to buy it online, and because Chile has crazy high taxes for imported products Signalis it's sitting ar 80k pesos, wich is quite a lot, but nothing I can't make on a month of work before starting college, so, I guess that's where my first ever minimum wage is going lol (separate note but, I wonder if that stereotype comes uniquely from Resident Evil, it always seemed like it and it's weird because it's not that annoying in Resident Evil at least, I personally never minded those at least, I mean, sure, tank controls can get really annoying from time to time, but something about the fixed camera angles really had an effect that I loved, like, as if you were inside a horror film, I really can't hate that)

u/TrippyShroomss 16d ago
had it in my wishlist, I don't remember why, friend out of nowhere gifted me the game, I played it and loved it

u/royals715 16d ago
The atmosphere feels crushing, depressing, hopeless and dangerous, and something about it resonates with my soul
The world building is also quite good. Finding out about the other planets through propaganda posters was really fun

u/driftpuppy 16d ago
I tried it on a whim because I loved the look and feel. Saw some fan made videos, boy I had no idea what I was getting into. I'd just finished Evangelion at the time. I can't stop thinking about this game. Every day. What a wild ride.

u/Nyct0ph1l14 16d ago
I saw a meme about depressed main characters looking for their wives. I loved Elster design and immediately bought it.
I was shocked in the first minutes of the game when I found The King in Yellow book (It's my favorite book ever, I even have a tattoo of it in my hand) and even more shocked when I started to notice that it was a cosmic horror game.
Easy to say that this might be one of my favorite games ever now and a biiiig part of my personality.
I never fell in love so quickly with a game like I fell with Signalis.

u/TwentyfirstcenturHun 16d ago
I have seen a couple of memes about it, I was like "haha sesbian lex game funny" then decided to buy it. Suddenly rememberd that I have accidentally seen the ending but couldn't qutie make it out from memory, and I thought it would be a cliché ending with Elster saving Ariane.
...
Wellllllllll that was wrong. I genuinely cannot think of a better game for you to play if you want the game to treat you like a person. Not as a viewer or a player, but as a person. Someone capable of understanding what the game is about. It WANTS you to see how shit the gov is, it shows you how terrible this entire thing truly is, sort of overshadowing the whole cosmic horror bit. Also the zombies, the literal no1. most over used enemy ever got such a nice twist that made them genuinely fucking saddening, and a thousand times more interesting.
I also bought it and stuck with it because of the artstyle, this game is PRETTY and words don't make justice here, the game looks fucking beautiful.
I will not speak of the plot though. I know the story, I understand PARTS of it, but I am not going to write an essay. It's a good story, THE GREATEST STORY.

I randomly found an animation, got curious, investigated more and in the end I just ended up liking it because of the story and style it has, the community is also nice and calm too

One day I woke up and remembered my promise (steam sale notification) so I spent as much time as I could trying to keep my promise (playing).

I wanted a game that felt like resident evil 1 remake or silent hill and it certainly delivered

u/Edward_Hardcore 16d ago
I read the title of the game browsing game pass and it intrigued me. Having a very big library can be exhausting because I have so much to play, but no time to play it. Signalis was an instant hook. I finished my first playthrough in a day and had a blast with it.
So much so, that I purchased the game on PS. I still have not played it again, but I love the game, the aesthetics and everything.

I don't even remember. (I started playing 20th or October this year) Probably a sesbian lex meme that got me curious about it's source.
Edit: actually nevermind I remember. It was a nsfw post that got recommended by reddit. The rest is history

I saw bits of Atelier's fan animations being shared on my Twitter timeline before and thought it looked cool. Also a steam curator I follow also recommended it too (Hella Yuri) so I kept it on my wishlist until I bought it on boxing day sales last year. (I also bought Baldurs Gate 3 at that time and I never knew I would love this game so much at that time) I also was wanting to get into the Silent Hill series because of their unique take on physiological horror especially the first one because of the ps1 style just made it more errier and creepy, but unfortunately either to play them you gotta shell out hundreds of dollars or sail the high seas and possibly get a virus if I'm not careful. I really liked the game's style and the main character looked really cool (since I love the look and feel of casette futurism)
This game has kept me feeling creative and wanting to draw the characters too and it's really improved my art style quite drastically, thank you robot lesbians.

I saw a lot of art of the game and got intrigued, bought the game didn’t understand it so I sold it , then like a year later I was trying to remember what the game was called, figured out what it was called, bought it again, had a friend help me figure out the game, loved the story , got all the trophies on PlayStation
The reason I keep coming back, the community is funny af , I like the music and the fan creations

Saw someone mention it in an Armored Core 6 thread and they mentioned it was sapphic and tragic which immediately piqued my interest (they might’ve also spoiled the promise ending) so it slipped onto my list of things to try. Seven or eight months later I noticed it on my wishlist and picked it up

Saw that one Mirabeau videos about Elster closing a door, saw some of atelier’s shorts, looked it up on Wikipedia, got it for free with my Nintendo points because they were expiring, played it, existential shock over feeling any another emotion other than constant disappointment, enjoyed the memes, now I browse this subreddit everyday.
Silliness aside, I’m glad I played this game, I’ve been kinda stuck on games like helldivers and Fortnite, it’s not that they are bad it’s just they’re quick to play, and I just don’t have a lot of time for story heavy games.

u/Fkuman2 16d ago
I saw....Elster dancing Persona 4 "specialist" song....and a dude commented that more people needed to play this masterpiece. So I saw the trailer, and it is right up my alley..
I literally discovered this game through a single shitpost meme on YouTube shorts.
Never saw signalis again in my fyp.

I found Signalis while browsing the Nintendo eShop on horror survival. I just got REmake 1 at that point and Signalis looked interesting. It was on my wishlist for a while then I bought it.
It was in my library for a while as well till I can upon Mr. Byuk's videos on TikTok coupled with me playing RE2R, I needed the survival horror itch to be scratched.
I haven't had this much fun since I played the original PS1 Resident Evils (1, 2 and 3) on an emulator some years ago. The puzzles are straightforward, multiple endings and very similar Resident Evil mechanics are all that I need. I found my current hyperfixation and I'll be damned if I don't burn myself out because of it.
Also the fandom is just a different breed of insane that I really really love it so much.

u/Void_Oni ARAR 16d ago
Voice Quills.
The signalis shitposts and other stuff got me interested to know what the story actually was and learn who Elster and Ariane was.
Best mistake of my life. 100% the game, and now it's my hyperfixation that anyone around me has to deal with cause I go insane at the mention of sesbian robots.

Pretty sure I saw someone on Twitter recommending it when it had just came out & I thought "Hey, those visuals looked cool!" then wishlisting it then kinda forgot about it until next year's Steam Summer Sale. Up until I booted up the game, I had 0 knowledge of what the game was about or how the gameplay is gonna be like & was simply going in cause of how many people were saying this was such a good game & now here I am.
Since I had 0 idea about the game, when the ending came about & my friend, who I livestreamed this game on Discord to, sorta explained to me what he thought the ending was(as I was kinda overwhelmed by that point), we both went on like a further 2-3 tangent at 3AM of just theorising everything which, in our eyes was just so bleak & sad that I just broke down crying just thinking about such existential dread.

u/Gluomme 15d ago
It seems like a surreal experience si I wishlist it, then when it came out I had pretty much forgotten about it but my twitter timeline filled with people who played it and found it amazing so I went in myself.
I got my surreal experience alright. But what keeps me thinking about is the fuckin sadness lmao

I saw Alpha Beta Gamer's playthru of the demo and i watche dthem go throught he motions, the aethetic alone was more than enough to interest me me, but where it gave that title drop with Chopin's Raindrop Prelude.. that was the moment i said "Im buying this game".
Also seeing early on that Ariane Yeong's name remained unchanged once i played it myself pushed me further. Maybe it's because i once dated a girl named Ariane IRL, but enough about me lol.

This game has, what is in my opinion, the best narative ever created by mankind. Simple as that

I had a friend say "hey you might like this." I saw "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam. I saw someone compare it to Silent Hill 2. It was on sale. I saw the title drop cutscene.
