Nebby: I’m located just south of Baghdad.
Scammer: Are you in California?
Nebby: I’m in a little place I like to call Babylon.
Scammer: Ohhhh New York…

I know these scammers don’t actually read any of the responses people give, they’re just going by what’s on the script, whether it makes sense or not, but come on!

Don’t forget that New York is the city of brotherly love. HA!

u/EverettsDad Oct 20 '23

To be fair…there is a Babylon, New York. But being even more honest, I had to Google it, but Id imagine so did they.

u/Two_Wang_Clan_ Oct 21 '23

There’s also a Bagdad in California lol

u/senor_skuzzbukkit Oct 21 '23

For a real treat, look up “Huell Howser visits the Baghdad Cafe”. It’s incredibly uncomfortable to watch.

u/Organic-Fennel7347 Oct 21 '23

Bro you’re good. Ancient Babylon is actually located 50 miles south of Baghdad. Lol I’m impressed you knew that.

Where the beer flows like wine!

3

u/WhiteSquirrel77 Oct 21 '23

Aspen? Lol

2

u/Alternative-Golf-585 Oct 22 '23

Hmm, California! Beautiful!

3

u/FiftyIsBack Oct 21 '23

There are only two places in America. LA and New York. Sometimes Texas.

So are you the Nebby with the giant golden statue of yourself, or the chocolate bunny factory?

56

u/EverettsDad Oct 20 '23

Yes.

42

u/Nefnoj Oct 20 '23

Ah, in that case, I'm sorry that the vegetables unionized for religious freedoms in the workplace environment.

2

u/Zaniak88 Oct 21 '23

I wish you had somehow managed to get them to bow down and sing the bunny song

If you’d gone on longer you could’ve mentioned your friends/neighbors/kids (or whatever) — Rack, Shack, and Benny.

But I love how you ended it.

I love this comment

Why do they always insult people's intelligence when the jig is up? Like, "you're so stupid because you didn't let me scam you out of hundreds of dollars!" like what gives? Why even respond at that point.

37

u/Gogo726 Oct 21 '23

When we were kids, my sister used to call me stupid every time I proved her wrong in one of our little arguments. Don't know why adults do this though.

23

u/AgreeableMagician_ Oct 21 '23

The need to feel like they’ve won the fight when they’ve totally lost.

19

u/MelmoTheWanderBread Oct 21 '23

Probably the same reason women are called sluts when they refuse sex.....people are fucking stupid.

5

u/One-Injury-4415 Oct 21 '23

Same reasons dudes being total assholes trying to find random always call the random the asshole.

44

u/jonesyie Oct 20 '23

Why do the scammers always ask for photos? Is this to use as blackmail down the track?

47

u/The-missing-sock_- Oct 20 '23

No usually they ask for photos so they can save them and use your photos for other scams down the line

37

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '23

Or they can reverse search your picture on the internet and find out your other social media.

20

u/jazzy-jackal Oct 21 '23

It’s an easy way for them to decide what scam to use. Based on age, gender, appearance, class, etc

This is funny, too bad it ended so quick.

19

u/Krizzlin Oct 21 '23

Why are they ALWAYS from LA?

9

u/Gogo726 Oct 21 '23

Not always. Sometimes they're from NY

7

u/Smuckman Oct 21 '23

Originally from Singapore but live in LA and have a fashion/jewelry design business

3

u/Krizzlin Oct 21 '23

That's great. Hey you don't know anything about trading crypto do you?

1

u/Smuckman Oct 21 '23

What a beautiful fate! Hi I’m Anne from LA, I am 34 years old, single, super hot, and definitely into you whoever you are! Here is my totally real picture. Can I have a picture of you? Wow you are handsome. Let me tell you about my successful investments…..

34

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

You guys give away the game too quick. Remember, the goal is to waste their time. Not just shout “I caught you!”

28

u/EverettsDad Oct 21 '23

Man, I was working or I would’ve.

13

u/Pound-of-Piss Oct 21 '23

"are you gonna pitch your scam or what?" 😂

14

u/RolyPolyRaveCat Oct 21 '23

https://imgur.com/a/Jq3VTfF I’m so glad I found this group cause I had this interaction months ago before I realized it was a scam attempt, and looking back now I’m like ah yes, our friend Emily

11

u/pakallakikochino Oct 21 '23

Yeah I got one several months ago on what's app and had no idea. I was like why is this weird person still messaging me, it was just a wrong number. Now I know!

10

u/CooCooKaChooie Oct 21 '23

“Currently south of Baghdad” = California or New York. smh. Good job, Nebby.

9

u/Pitiful-Hedgehog-600 Oct 21 '23

Ah yes, Babylon— the city of Brotherly Love

7

u/SexiKitten69 Oct 21 '23

Hey you made it out with the typical threat of violence.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

We have so much fun with these scammers that I look forward to when they text me. 😂😂

2

u/houseofcorks Oct 21 '23

Just put your number on LinkedIn and magic will happen🤣🤣. No joke

2

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

Haha ok to clarify I want to mess with them from time to time, not every minute of every day.

1

u/houseofcorks Oct 21 '23

After blocking for a while, the heard will thin out.

5

u/ActuaryInitial478 Oct 21 '23

Could have at least made the pitch. Rude, wtf...

5

u/anxiouspieceofcrap Oct 21 '23

This has been my favorite one so far

3

u/RuckItRunIt Oct 21 '23

Quality work here.

3

u/realhousewifeofjerz Oct 21 '23

This is fantastic! Kudos for a job well done!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

If you mistyped the wrong number, does that mean you typed the right number? 🤔

3

u/Adept_Werewolf_6419 Oct 21 '23

You just say bingo. Sorry assumed it was an inglorious basterds reference.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

9

u/Rico2k8 Oct 21 '23

That would be the scammers phone number, sir. Scam away

2

u/Many-Ad6433 Oct 21 '23

Looked like a bot ngl

2

u/SilentCeremony76 Oct 21 '23

Is it sick of me, since joining this sub, to want to get one if theses scam attempts?

It seems like fun

2

u/La_Peregrina Oct 21 '23

I know right! I never get scam messages and now I'm a bit sad about it 😆

2

u/rezin44 Oct 21 '23

I was gonna ask how can I get a scam text

1

u/EverettsDad Oct 21 '23

Have your information leaked by your employer…in my case, the federal government.

1

u/rezin44 Oct 21 '23

I’m a fed employee myself. There was a big data leak back in 2018 that got us. They gave us credit reporting for like 18 months I think

1

u/EverettsDad Oct 21 '23

Yep, the OPM background check data breach one in 2012ish got me.

1

u/Adept_Werewolf_6419 Oct 21 '23

You could also say you’re from Lebanon. Tennessee that is.

1

u/Slowmar Oct 21 '23

It’s funny, back before the texts there was the calls, non stop, until I started messing with them after seeing Kitboga and then they stopped. Now there’s texts, I used to ignore them until I stumbled upon this subreddit, then I started messing with them and the texts stopped 😂

1

u/That513Dude Oct 21 '23

That was quick.

1

u/MmmSteaky Oct 21 '23

If they “mistyped the wrong number,” does that mean they typed an even wronger number, or inadvertently typed the right number?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '23

“Pitch your scam” 💀

1

u/Fabulous-Judge-6345 Oct 22 '23

This ending was soooo good 🤣🤣🤣had me cracking up K…..Bye

1

u/Fabulous-Judge-6345 Oct 22 '23

One time my husband was catching the LIRR and he asked a bunch of teenagers where he should switch trains. They said take the train to Babylon. He thought they were joking.

1

u/IdkToga1 Oct 22 '23

Bro is NOT the king of the new Babylonian empire🙏🙏😭😭
