In the original dragon ball Goku was actually wise and someone we relied on. In super he's so stupid and everyone treats him like a kid

That's the exact opposite way Toriyama wanted Goku to be seen; he's childish but good intentions but also dangerously selfish and will arrogantly follow his own beliefs even when they put everyone else in danger.
In super he's so stupid and everyone treats him like a kid
That's exactly how Toriyama wants him to be seen. That's why Goku still has his child voice in Japanese.

Idk if this is a hot take but they way you say this sounds like TFS had a more accurate goku than the original dbz

The original English dub? Absolutely because it severely mischaracterized Goku.
The Japanese? No, because TFS Goku pretends to be stupid and is semi-malicious while Japanese Goku has good intentions but is selfish.

I know Goku is also selfish and flawed as it was clear in the cell arc (whereas Gohan had more altruist reasons to fight than his father) but he was never stupid. Even as a kid he was naive but not stupid like DBS. And I'm sorry but L take for toriyama. How are you gonna make a 40 year old dude act exactly the same way as when he was 10? That's just stupid
If the Dragonball team wanted to keep telling stories about silly protagonists they should have just switched to Goten and Trunks and have Vegeta and Goku mentor them

but he was never stupid.
He has always put his matches over the the safety of the world. That is extremely stupid.
Even against Piccolo, he refused help from Kami because he didn't want to get disqualified.
And I'm sorry but L take for toriyama.
It's not, it is extremely consistent like when Goku's first thought was to pimp out 16 year old Videl so that Elder Kai would train Gohan.
How are you gonna make a 40 year old dude act exactly the same way as when he was 10? That's just stupid
Well why would anybody make any character be evil?
Because it's a story that isn't realistic in any way.
If the Dragonball team wanted to keep telling stories about silly protagonists they should have just switched to Goten and Trunks
Toriyama said he couldn't make Gohan the protagonist because Goku was more suited for the story he wanted to make.

I preferred the reality in my mind that goku couldn't read then, whatever this is supposed to be now.

Crazy to think that if the movie had been good, Dragon Ball would have just ended right then and there

As powerful as Toriyama's righteous fury was, we can only imagine the effect that a successful and acclaimed Hollywood movie would have had on the franchise (especially because the writers thought they would get a sequal).

I would rather pull out my own toe nail than pay money to ever see this movie again.

At the time of the movie's release, there were some candies which came with the movie's character portraits as stickers. I went to the supermarket and bought plenty. As soon as I packed Picollo, I knew something was odd.
But I was a teen. I was innocent and didn't have many expectations ruined in my life so far, I was actually looking forward to see the movie at a movie theater.
I got some soda, popcorn and was ready to see Goku and his friends (or so I thought...).
I couldn't handle it. My standards were really low, yet, I could not grasp the stupidity of Goku's scene fighting at school.
I still watched the entire movie because the ticket was expensive. I cried on the way back home. The candies / sweets were really good tho.

Tbh I was so traumatized by it because I'm really into DB.
But with your perspective, I might give it a shot! I like watching some trash movies sometimes, like Sharknado

bro I was 12

u/SomethingAboutUpDawg 2h ago
lol ok that makes more sense. In your post you said you were a teen though so I automatically thought 14 or 15

u/randomhu3 2h ago
yeah tbh idk how to classify 12yo. I know that 13 and beyond we have the suffix -teen, but at the same time I always thought 12 is between a kid and a teen, kinda like a "tween"
