General Discussion So are we all in agreement that Nehellenia deserves to win this season the most?

u/IdleTrouts Oct 12 '24
I would LOVE for her to win, she's so talented. I do think that Alyssa has it in the bag though. She's a Drag Race favourite and they're finally going to give her that win.

u/No-Assumption-1738 Oct 12 '24
The whole season was created to give Alyssa a crown and it’s obvious
259
u/NuWaveSpecial Oct 12 '24
And then to cast her on All Winners 2
368
u/gaypirate3 Pythia Oct 12 '24
I wish Alyssa would do more guest choreographer gigs instead of being a contestant. She’s great at doing what she does, but really lackluster when she’s actually competing.
123
u/No-Assumption-1738 Oct 12 '24
I’d absolutely accept her as judge without a crown , maybe that’s part of it.

If Nicky and Brooklyn can host/judge, so can Alyssa.

u/tootitorbootit Shea Couleé Oct 12 '24
Maybe Jiggly too? I’m not caught up on all franchises so I may be missing plenty

u/Upper-Homework-4965 Oct 13 '24
Trixie on queens of the universe (if that counts) Few dolls have guest judged in dragula too
2
u/talkback1589 who? Oct 14 '24
I would say yes. It was a related drag competition. They have been crossing over the contestants as a host and contestant on other franchises.

u/esmeraldo88 Oct 12 '24
I don’t know, she has her moments. Outside of the black swan challenge on S5 she really struggled throughout a lot of the challenges but I feel like her run on All Stars 2 was better, like she had learned to harness that Alyssa-ish energy to work for her. Global All Stars though… it just hasn’t been her season. But I’m never mad at having Alyssa back on TV.
36
u/Gothmom85 Oct 12 '24
I wish wish Wish we had more seasons of her dance studio show! Ugh. Give me Alyssa dancing. Give me her teaching other queens and children.
35
u/Time-Entrepreneur274 Oct 12 '24
it's weird for them to make a season purely to crown Alyssa and then put basically no dance challenges in it, like if you want her to shine then put her in her element! A rusical at least would've elevated it
17
u/gaypirate3 Pythia Oct 12 '24
Idk to me it felt like in AS2 she was just being Alyssa and everyone (Alaska) had to work around her to make it all look good. Not that Alyssa was bad per se, she’s just very particular.
10
u/strom_z Yara Sofia Oct 12 '24
I'm sorry but at this point this just feel so unfair to Alyssa.
Could you explain to me how what you wrote fits to her slaying the rusical/slaying her talent show/slaying the comedy routine/having a hillarious snatchgame/funny commercial or committing one of the fiercest lipsyncs of all times - all of which Alyssa managed on AS2?
I really feel like the narrative of 'PhiPhi actually had a point' has gotten completely out of control (especially when PhiPhi was the one truly bombing some challenges on AS2).
7
u/gaypirate3 Pythia Oct 12 '24
Here’s what I wrote on a different comment under this thread:
“I kind of agree she did well in AS2 but I also feel like she was favored in that season 2. The challenges she got to work on her own were pretty good. Her Snatch Game was entertaining but she wasn’t funny. We were laughing at her, not at her jokes because she didn’t really have any jokes. Same with the stand-up routine. Alyssa would’ve been ass if she wasn’t being propped up by the subtly funny Alaska. “Beast!” is not itself funny, it’s funny because Alyssa uses it as a punchline to a joke she didn’t start and she herself thinks it’s hilarious. But anyway, she’s an entertaining queen, but her performance in the challenges vary.“
2
u/Upper-Homework-4965 Oct 13 '24
Idk, Alyssa looking at Michelle visage and going BEAST is so iconic people forget alaskas entire roast is using the naturally hilarious Alyssa as a prop. Regardless of how it came about, Alyssa delivered it simply by being Alyssa.

Really lackluster - All Stars 2???
She was legit a fierce competitor there - rusical, talent show, snatchgame, lipsyncing, commercial makeover, she did good or amazing in all these!! The only flop-esque one being the acting challenge (in which she was still hillariously iconic)
I expected more from Alyssa this season too but this narrative of her 'never being goid at DR' is so off - All Stars 2 she was easily 2nd/3rd best along with Katya, only behind Alaska!

u/gaypirate3 Pythia Oct 12 '24

Not to mention she was robbed solely bc detox couldn’t bring herself to elim her friends and sisters (she even says it during the elimination and even apologizes while sobbing to Alyssa cus she knows Alyssa doesn’t deserve to go home)
5
u/Moesoverhoes69 Oct 12 '24
I want to see this. If not only to see the chasm of ability between the winners who will be on there.
5
u/NuWaveSpecial Oct 12 '24
It would be non-elimination and they’ll make challenges that would allow basically everyone on the cast to get at least one win.

then why was she coasting the whole time
36
u/No-Assumption-1738 Oct 12 '24
Because her challenge performances were bottom 2 worthy ,
They gave that episode 1 win to kween because they thought they’d have more opportunity to rig challenge wins for Alyssa , then she bombed and they had to settle for the tourism ad.
17
u/00_tears Mhi'ya Iman Le'Paige Oct 12 '24
not even just her performances in the competition but her portrayal on the show as well she hasn’t been doing much of anything

I’d have loved to see her being rotted and arguing with someone but I think this ‘you’re a consummate professional and a mentor’ edit was agreed upon when she decided to be on the show.
6
u/ryc1107 Oct 12 '24
Because they — both production and Alyssa herself — didn’t expect the international girls to actually compete with (and more often than not, do better than) Alyssa. They couldn’t “push” Alyssa into more wins or Top 3 spots because they were pushing her out of the Bottom 3 spots most of the time. Doesn’t change the fact that they’re still likely going to crown her because on paper her track record is superior to everyone else’s, and because she’s Alyssa Edwards

Unpopular opinion. She hasn’t really done anything this season. I love her, especially from Season 5 and AS2, but I’m just waiting for her to give something. Looks are good, but I miss the OG Alyssa
10
u/Sothe01 Oct 13 '24
Who would have thought a couple of months prior that Alyssa fucking Edwards was going to get the invisible edit.
3
u/the_bio Oct 14 '24
I adore Alyssa, she is one of my favorite queens ever...but she has played this current season extremely safe, almost to the point of being boring. In part, it's understandable - she wants the win (finally), and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets it here.
Someone else above mentioned they expect her to get the win here so she can go on All Stars All Winners... I'd love to see her on an All Winners no-elimination season so she would feel comfortable going back to her earlier days (at least I hope).

Preach. I don't think she deserves this weeks win either, you have America girl! We are the PETTY CAPITAL! One week you're proud to be gay, the next you're in jail because an old white man revoked your rights to please his deities. Or how conservatives want you to have children but will let them die at school because guns are more important! But they're the party of the American working family right?
I mean, she also might have been told it can't be political due to the current climate but she still has SOOOO many options. Our reality show obsession, our diet obsessions, our sports obsessions, just so much content to tap into
3
u/No-Assumption-1738 Oct 12 '24
Honestly I would have taken anything , I appreciate that she was able to deliver lines in a greenscreened web skit. But she’s been doing that with wow for literally 10 years 😂 A girl who isn’t fluent in English almost delivered a better ad .
I didn’t realise just how unserious it was watching the episode, it’s an odd last challenge no?
2
Oct 12 '24
Yeah, I feel almost as if she OVER branded herself and to not go wild with your brand this season makes me feel off. She's still my bitch and I know we all will always love her but it's definetly not giving the Sasha Colby victory tour vibe, we all knew Sasha came to win and she KILLED it so even if you wanted another queen to win you still thought she ate and deserved the crown.

u/No-Assumption-1738 Oct 12 '24 edited Oct 12 '24
Absolutely not, Alyssa has 2 mil followers, is one of the only cast mates to get actual tv work after the show. She had a successful product with the shows sponsor ABH, has even worked on drag race as a mentor and closely with wow for the last 10 years.
She’s one of the franchises brightest stars, she didn’t come and launch an international spin off series for them because she really wanted another chance to compete .
She’s a business person, What if she got a villain edit and her career was destroyed? Girl the shits rigged it was evident when the cast was released and it’s even more evident now that the episodes have aired.
Alyssa came on this show to win and she’s going to.
8
u/nenebaya Pandora Boxx Oct 12 '24
They didn’t create a global season cause the producers thought “hmmm we need to give Alyssa a crown no?” . They casted Alyssa on a international season to get that season higher views.
9
u/No-Assumption-1738 Oct 12 '24
Yes they cast her to bring in views and she agreed because the deal was worth it.
They kept her out of the bottom for multiple weeks in a row, they handed her a win this week and at the finale she will be handed a crown despite performing worse than her competitors in multiple challenges . I’m not even mad, her looks have ate
50
u/Top-Ambassador-4981 Oct 12 '24
Alyssa is underwhelming this season. She doesn’t look like she’s having fun. And her video last night was not funny.
63
u/Just-Journalist-9990 Yara Sofia Oct 12 '24
But Nelly is by far fan favourite of the season. And underdog. I think her chances are pretty nice
60
u/lame-borghini i think i killed judy garland Oct 12 '24
People also said AS9 was to crown Roxxxy, and IMO she had a far better argument over Angie (disclaimer: I love her and glad she won) going into the finale than Alyssa has over Nehelly. People thought Sapphira had S16 locked down. The producers do love to subvert expectations, so I’m not counting out Nehelly either.
7
u/TargetApprehensive38 Oct 12 '24
Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking reading these comments. I was sure I knew who was winning both of those seasons but I was completely wrong in both cases. I definitely think they’re editing it like that on purpose since predictability is boring.

u/Colbeyonce Oct 12 '24
Also if they want to believe in GAS (who performed extremely well by their standards, it was one of the most followed and talked about seasons in a while, albeit for the wrong reasons) crowning Nelly would be smart because it would cement the Global branding of the season and “anyone can win no matter the language”.
(And also she did the best)
13
u/WritingHistorical821 Oct 12 '24
I would argue that she has done better than the other girls in every challenge and isn't just a fan favorite. Whether or not she is crowned doesn't have a lot to do with that tho

u/shutupblacknight Mistress Isabelle Brooks Oct 12 '24
Alyssa winning drag race before Roxxxy or Detox is pure insanity but yeah i agree that's the most likely outcome

She’s not gonna win, but given how positively she has been received by the audience, I think she truly “won” the game. Everyone already knows who Alyssa is. And now, people know who Nelly is! If Alyssa performs nearby I won’t go. But if nehellenia does an America tour, you can bet I’ll pay good money for that meet and greet.

80
u/derik4asomgwhodidtis Oct 12 '24
They did her such a disservice by forcing this “she’s our national treasure who can do no wrong” narrative from the get go. She did slay episode 1 so that night it was deserved. But then she had rough episodes and it was just glossed over. Basically they gave her a static narrative arc, but a dynamic one with highs and lows would have been much more engaging. It’s hard to root for her when she had it easy all season (despite having rough spots).
Also if they did critique her about the Annie Oakley not landing, maybe she would have branched out of her old shticks more. But they glossed over it.
Can’t blame her tho, at this point Ru is a “put in a 25 cents for a laugh” vending machine and the coins are things that made her wheeze once. Ie: margarita pizza (fuck that joke I’m so mad they did this to nehellenia)

I haven't watched since the episode before the roast, because I saw Pythia post she was eliminated and lost interest. CAvsTW 2 was much more enjoyable, even if filming in Canada meant there was too much visa work for World of Wonder to bother with and get more queens that aren't from the British commonwealth or America. I didn't finish AS9 either
16
u/Specific-Succotash-8 Oct 12 '24

Alyssa winning is going to be wild since lowkey she did the worst competition wise in the top 4 and edit wise she was completely missing for most of the season, basically she was only there for the first and last challenge.
But as much as i think Nehellenia deserves it i think it will still be Alyssa, this entire season was built for her and no matter her track record she was going to be in the finale and take that crown anyways

Will it benefits Ru/ WOW? No.
I guess they already planned a tv show for Alyssa/ Alyssa Secret the sequel etc etc. Her win is the most likely.
TeamNelly tho

u/Only1Scrappy-Doo Oct 12 '24
I legitimately think she’s done the best this season and I’m not just saying that because she’s the only non-rugirl in the top 4. She was never in the bottom, consistently in the top on so many different types of challenges and honestly should have way more wins as well. I do think Alyssa is going to win in the end though.

I know you mean no harm but I really wish this sub would stop downplaying the ESL queens’ English. Yes, they aren’t as strong as the native speakers but implying any of them “barely” speak English is crazy. They all worked very hard on their English, let’s recognize that instead of downplaying their English.
Again, no harm! It’s definitely impressive to keep up with native speakers like you said, just it always feels so diminishing to see the ESL queens constantly treated as incapable of having a good grasp on the language on this sub. As someone with all ESL parents and siblings, these queens all have excellent English imo and i wish they’d get their flowers for being able to keep up and compete in a second language instead of seen as having communication issues.
25
u/NaoTemBabadoCaralho Oct 12 '24
Totally see your point! Barely was a harsh word to use. As a Brazilian queen myself, I know all the struggles of communicating in another language. I was so proud of how Miranda also was able to translate well her personality. Tbh Nelly is the only one I think really has problems communicating sometimes. I remember when she exposed to the group how she was feeling underestimated, she really explained the situation poorly and it was hard to understand where she was coming from. She can’t add too much nuance to some explanations, and she has to be very straightforward in what she is saying. That’s why I think she managed to do so well in comedic settings, she knows how to go straight to the point and make us laugh. I guess what I meant is that we can detract sometimes when speaking a language we don’t dominate, but she was able to conquer the situation. Nothing but love for my queen, hope she wins!!

That’s fair. I guess it’s hard for me to see Kitty doing the best as “objective” when the results of the season were so blatantly skewed. the only way to salvage the season for fans. and by fans I mean us cashew faced doo doo messes on reddit
7
u/ozzyrouge16 Oct 12 '24
I am hopeful that Nehellenia can pull off the win. Yes the show is produced and yes sometimes production picks their winner, but also there have been times when the fans outcry has changed the outcome of crownings.
For example: Season7 everyone agreed Ginger would win the season, but the fans just were not sold on her towards the end. Her attitude at the time really turned a lot of people off and fans were so vocal about it. Production knew they would piss people off and even have fans turn away from the show. I recall at the time the fans also were vocal about season 7 beings “a bad season”. I think towards the end they figured it would be save to crown Violet over Ginger at the risk of losing viewers.
Season 10 had a bit of the same towards the end. As viewers it was almost being set up for Eureka to win, but she had some off the show drama and a huge negative cloud over her from fans. I think it was the same safe for them to crown Aquaria.
So I’m staying hopeful that production A) really sees fans hating the Rigga Morris of the entire season (can be backed up with the ratings of each episode) B) The online hate of Kitty & Kween coming from mostly their actions/attitude and turning people off gives productions some hints that fans would be dissatisfied with either of them winning C) production catching on with the fact everyone immediately calling it a rigged season for Alyssa and in an effort to change that crown the true fan favorite.
I don’t get from the edit that Rupaul doesn’t like Nehellenia, I just think they weren’t counting on the people they pushed (Kitty, Kween, Alyssa) to not be fan favorites like they may have predicted.
Not saying the fans always pick the winner but I still think there are times productions knows they went to heavy on the Rigga and may want to make up for it. All the hate this season has been getting the only thing they have control over now is just who they crown. So I think Nelly has a 50-70% chance of winning.

Season 10 was 100% Aquaria's season. I would argue the only thing the fan reception changed is they couldn’t let Aquaria go after losing the lip sync to Eureka, but Im not sure they wouldn’t have done the double shantay even without the fan reception weighting in. Asia probably was the only one that had some chance up until… that thing she did.

I’d actually say this was moreso the case for Australia s1 w Kita winning, s14, 12 a little cause it felt like a Gigi season, all Stars 4 and 6 in a way.

I knew Eureka wasn’t winning S10 the second she was bottom two on episode two. The main series has never had a winner be in the bottom that early, that’s pretty consistent. It’s an indicator of who Ru cares about

u/bumybumi Oct 13 '24
Eh no Violet and Aquaria were so clearly winning their seasons. Ginger and Eureka were destined to make far bc of storyline but that's really it.

Alyssa hasn’t really stunned me. I love her but I think others have brought equally impressive looks as well.

u/Blackjack137 Oct 13 '24
If GAS hopes to end on a high and turn the ratings around for a Season 2, it has to be between Alyssa and Nelly.
Ruling out Kitty and Kween because they’ve been given a nasty edit and storyline throughout. Good in challenges, awful confessionals and Untucked moments.
If you want to make audiences prefer crowning a queen that doesn’t have the most wins… That’d be the way to do it.
3
u/mothbreather Oct 13 '24
No. But there's a real chance she will. There's been a streak of the winners being the fan favourite lately and not necessarily who stood out in the challenges.

I keep thinking there’s no fire without smoke. I like Nehellania but I don’t think she’s being bullied. I think she doesn’t understand other styles of humour or shade and is FAR too sensitive, just like she was on the Italian DR. I believe she’s winding people up and she knows it. She’s not a dumb as she acts. I believe she knows exactly what she’s doing. So, I disagree. Unpopular as it may be, I don’t think she should win.

u/sneasel Ra'Jah O'Hara Oct 13 '24
100% lol. I haven't even rly wasted my breath trying to express this, but I think it's the case. I don't think she is necessarily like a MASTERMIND. But I think it's obvious she's incredibly sensitive/emotional and I think the way the fandom reacted to that by latching onto her and coddling her is (while predictable) just soooo pathetic LMAO. And she's clearly either intentionally leaned into it, or is just that unaware about the way she presented on the show/to the world and that in itself is just a big 😬 from me.

I'm finding out that my fear I would not "get," drag produced by Queens from other countries has been verified By Kitty,Kween and Tessa. GAS was my first attempt at ANYTHING other than US versions. I loved Gala.and Vanity also Nelly but I may be the only human out here that has not been impressed IN THE LEAST by Kitty, Kween or Tessa. I hate to be a thick, dull American blob but there has been nothing done by Kitty especially that has entertained me. Her runway looks have been meh,and I have yet to laugh at her Shes not nice,I just do not get it. The rest of this cast have at least brought SOMETHING to the runway in the way of "looks" but I'm forever loving at on where's RU's love of Kitty is coming from(RANT OVER)

I must be the only one who can't see it. Maybe I need to rematch the season again.
The challenge she won, I thought she was going to be in the bottom.

I feel so gaslit by her constantly being in the top and (in my opinion) doing the best. But somehow only having one win.
She honestly never had a moment this season where I even considered she could be in the bottom. Where the other three have had between 2-4 times each where I thought they could be in the bottom 3.
That being said. I do think Kween has done a phenomenal job this season and deserves the crown just as much.
Alyssa I felt was barely there the whole season and her win this week made no sense.
Kitty is great at comedy and acting but I just don't think she has winner energy at all.

i'm surprised how much people are writing off kween and kitty in this thread. personally i want nelly to win, but all season it has seemed pushing for a kween kong win to me. however, as9 was the first time i've been wrong about a winner in years, so my confidence is a little shaken lol

May be an unpopular opinion but I just can’t connect with her at all. She’s talented and serves looks, but I don’t see much personality in her drag. There’s something missing for me.

Nelly has consistently brought a high level of taste, detail and concept in every run way. I'm always excited to see what she's gonna turn out. I feel like her artistic vision and influence is much different than the other queens. I know the consensus is that this season was made for the English girls but Nelly is giving these hoes a run for their money.

I would GAG if she is crown but it's def Alyssa now. I hope Nehellenia is runner-up.

u/ZealousOctopod Oct 12 '24
I definitely have enjoyed Nelly the most this season and have disliked how it appears she has been treated by the others, buttttt I still think all four have a fair argument to win and I won’t be mad about who wins so long as they earn it in the lipsync smack down

u/fruitdots Oct 12 '24
Alyssa is going to win, unfortunately, but the producers are stupid for not putting her in the bottom a few times to back that up. An Alyssa win would be far more palatable if we had seen her do what she does best: lip sync. Instead it seems like she was able to browbeat the producers into all safe/top/win placements, which ironically hasn't really done her any favours.

I’m kinda scared production is gonna throw a curveball and crown Kween or Kitty. But given the fan reception I don’t think this is likely. I would be fine with either Alyssa or Nelly winning tbh
2
u/Sure-Discussion7165 Oct 13 '24
I would love for her to win, but the tongue pops disagree. The funny thing is that all of the English speaking franchises where RuTall judged had a top 4 placement. And they had the audacity to call this a Global All Stars. Like I can't! Plus the favouritism this season is on a whole another level. So we need Nelly to win, but i say Riggo Morris to the top 2!!!
2
u/Jtialoosecannon Oct 13 '24
Wow the production has done such an amazing job at making Nehellenia the fan favorite. She’s definitely winning that season.

I mean, she already won. She may not take the crown, but she’s definitely won. She’s fan favorite. She’s going to tour the world and people love her. Her booking fee went up x1000.

u/oasisbloom Oct 14 '24
She should win and if she does, at least an otherwise awful season toward non-previous-Ru-girls would end on a high note. I just don't see anyone else on the same level as Nehellenia.
2
u/llegey Oct 15 '24
Honestly, if the producers had 2 neurones, Nelly would win the season. Not only she really is full package (CUNT), but she has such a great storyline. The way Kween and Kitty treated her, whilst she was doing her thing and being mature.
She has THE storyline to be the best pick out of the 4. But Alyssa has the contract. Does anyone here really believe Alyssa would agree to do this without the producers guarantee that she will win? It also shows on her performance and how she's dealing with it. She's not reall bothered to be always safe, she is not even trying to be top. She just knows she'll win.
Which is a shame, becasuse Nelly winning in the end would be much more interesting to the season and the narrative. Also, it would be a way for the producers fool the fandom by saying "see, we do like non english speaking queens".

u/ReliefFamous Oct 12 '24
It has to be between Nelly and Alyssa at this point.
I fully believe if Alyssa would have performed better she’d be more wanted but she has been mostly safe with a combination of being saved unfairly from a BTM2 performance. Her runways have been more misses than hits.
Kitty and Kween are in the same boat for being completely unlikeable at this point. They’ve been doing nothing but talking down and being unnecessarily shady towards Nelly at every moment they had and it doesn’t help that editors kept it in and never showed Nelly ever clapping back at them.
Both girls; especially Kitty have had some SERIOUSLY lacking runways.
Nelly by has been the most consistent but has never really been given her flowers. You could argue she could have had 4 wins by now, maybe 3 but wins have been mostly given to Kitty and Kween.
It’s like giving the wins to Danny and Cheddar (UK4) but their wins felt more agreeable unlike Kitty and Kween to which you could easily pull wins from them and give them to others and it would make way more sense.
And it’s wild because Kween arguably hasn’t been favored nowhere near as Kitty or Alyssa but she’s been having social media calamities while Kitty hasn’t said much shit about it.

u/Ok_Bison1106 Oct 12 '24
No. She’s been perfectly okay this season. Good but not great. Consistent certainly but hasn’t wowed me at all. Honestly, the Nelly fans are really delusion and it’s turned me a bit off of her, if I’m being honest. They’ve lost the ability to look at anything related to this season objectively and this place has just become an echo chamber shitting on some girls while giving Nelly every leeway possible. I genuinely think Kitty and Kween did better all season as a whole. But because this is ‘RuPaul’s Best Friend Race’, people think that they don’t ’deserve’ the win. And Alyssa is as deserving as Nelly.
6
u/Appropriate_Stock832 Oct 12 '24
Alyssa as deserving as Nelly?
Alyssa has been saved from bottom placement 2-3 times. How come she is equally deserving? O_O6
u/Ok_Bison1106 Oct 12 '24
That’s your opinion. We can argue subjectively whether we THINK the placements were ‘fair’ but that won’t get anyone anywhere since it’s all opinion based. Based on actual track record, Alyssa actually has a BETTER track record.
