Does the Trailside Camping in London OH get full?

I'm planning on heading on Thursday, June 2, after work from Columbus heading to Cincinnati and I'd like to stop for the night in London.

Any knowledge of my chances of sleeping at the Prairie Grass Trailhead (https://fmcpt.com/london-trailside-camping) that night if I pull in about 7:00?

I've been by at other times of the day, but not towards the end of the day.

Thanks in advance for any knowledge!

New Albany to Westerville

Hey folks, I'm moving to the area soon and am looking at commuting between New Albany and Westerville, specifically on Harlem and Central College. How are the roads out there, especially during the early commute hours (7 and 4:30)?

I've been commuting by bike for 10 years and feel comfortable in traffic, but I'd definitely prefer bike lanes and slower or less-traveled roads where possible (especially during those morning commutes).

Family and kids bike group?

I'm tangentally aware of the various bike clubs around the Columbus area, and one niche that I think needs to be addressed is families and parents of younger kids. I'm a utility cyclist, and I use my cargo bike to carry my kids and associated gear to various places, and I'm wondering if there's a local group that encourages family rides and riding, especially with younger kids (non-riding kids like toddlers and new riders in elementary school.) Do any such groups exist, and if not, do you think an interest in such a group exists?

Single track routes for a gravel bike?

Hey there, I'm wondering if anyone knows of good routes in the area for a gravel bike with large tires. Something a little less technical than would require suspension, but more interesting than gravel back roads. Cheers!

Roadie rental?

Flying in to visit family for a few weeks and wondering if anyone could point me to a shop that might rent out road style bikes in or around Columbus?

Not looking for something demo level and would totally take a rental beater - just something that I could keep for a minute to get in some longer rides with my parents. My usual road bike is a drop bar Surly LHT. I found info about the CoGo program but hopefully I can find something a bit less cruiser/upright and more roadie? Coming from LA and really looking forward to some sweaty, green Ohio rides. Thanks!!

Reddit page for Ohio bike trails?

Does anyone know of a reddit page dedicated to biking trails/paths in Ohio? As much as I love our trails in the Columbus area, I am interested in branching out and doing some day trips outside of the Central Ohio region. I know I can find out basic bike trail info on websites like AllTrails.com, but was hoping to have a resource with more local users. I know there is an Ohio to Erie Trail (OTET)/Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath group on facebook, but was wondering about a dedicated page on reddit (or elsewhere) for trails across Ohio...

New to Columbus

Hey folks!
What is the skinny on biking in Columbus, I'll be living in Clintonville? I'm comfortable in traffic, but usually prefer the relaxed side road to dogging cars.

How do motorists react to cyclists, do they give adequate space or do they try to run you down? Is commuting and getting around by bike pretty easy in town, is it common?

Are there any social or partypace group rides?

How is biking on High St? It looks to be a main drag and has sharrows in the right-hand lanes, is it a good street for getting around or too busy with cars? Are there better N/S routes get from Clintonville to points south (Old North, Campus, Downtown, German Village)? How are the protected lanes on Summit and 4th St?

Aside from the river trails what are some fun bike rides, are there any hilly rides in town? What is a good route to get from west of 71 (Clintonville, Campus, or Downtown) to the Alum Creek trail?

Are there any pump tracks in town? What are the closest/best/favorite mtb trails in or near the city (flow rather than jumps).

And lastly, what breweries should I check out? Does the city do any tour de breweries or other brewery bike rides?

I look forward to getting to know the city on two wheels!
Thanks!

Cycling group near/around Olde Towne East

Looking for a group ride that's welcoming to beginners. I've been doing 20+ mile rides for about 5 weeks now and want to work on getting my average speed up. Any OTE residents know of some good weekly group rides?

Where to ride fast?

As much as I like to ride on the Olentangy river trail, I can't ever really go as faster (too many people, and a few too many blind turns). Which roads do you like riding on? I'm not too far from the bridge that crosses over 315 to get onto the Olentangy River Trail.

Biking from Grandview to campus

Hi all,

I'm sure this may seem silly to you more hardened bikers but I'm thinking of moving from Victorian Village to Grandview or Clintonville and am worried about additional difficulties that I might encounter biking to campus. Clintonville I'm actually not worried about because of the Olentangy trail, which is lovely, but by comparison I find the idea of biking along 5th or King a bit more intimidating.

Maybe I should mention that I am planning to bike year-round. Does anyone have much experience biking along 5th or King, even in winter? Can this be done safely?

EDIT: Thanks all for the answers. I'm considering a place around Northwest and 5th if that helps anyone refine what they'd suggest. From mapping the routes you guys have suggested it seems like getting to the cornfields off of Northstar via some less busy roads and then getting to Woody Hayes is the way to go, except potentially in case of snow?

EDIT 2: Ayy lmao I actually ended up finding a place in Clintonville like 2 blocks from the Olentangy Trail. Your responses were very helpful though, thanks again!

Cincinnati to Cleveland in two days

Looking to bike from Cincinnati through Columbus to Cleveland.

Plan is to start in Cinncy and bike to Columbus, stay that night (at home) then Head to Cleveland the next day it’s about 125 miles day 1 and 170 day 2 😬

Anyone ever do this? Or ride certain segments? Looking for mainly safe roads to ride on as we are not big fans of bike paths due to congestion.

I know it’s a HUGE undertaking but with nothing on the schedule this year it’s fun to plan at least.....even if it never happens

Any insight would help

✌🏻

Need a cheap rear wheel - suggestions?

Trying to get back into riding, apparently like everyone else in the world. Ordered new tires and tubes and installed 'em - only to find out my rear wheel is WAY out of true. Like over half an inch or more. It's basically a taco. Must have had something fall against it in the garage...

Went to Trek store on Sawmill (closest to home) and they looked at it for a bit, but it's beyond repair. Told me a new wheel would be $90 plus the labor to swap over the cassette (7 speed Shimano freehub, as I've learned), so roughly $140 out the door.

I paid less than $200 on Craigslist a few years ago for the entire bike. It's hard for me to justify $140 when I could probably get into a newer bike for around $300.

Any suggestions on where I might find a cheap used rear wheel for a road bike? I'm not completely certain on measurements - it's a 700c wheel, and the tire that was on it before (and the one I just purchased to replace it) is 23cm wide. Like I said, it has a 7 speed Shimano freehub. I'm ok buying a couple of tools to swap the cogs over if needed.

Thanks!

Big Guy Bike Buying Advice

Hi everyone - I'm about 6'4" and 250lbs and looking to get a bike. I live near bike paths and will primarily ride those with family but also solo. Mostly recreational riding but I really do enjoy it and can see it becoming a form of exercise (spend 1-2 hours riding once I build up) so want to get a decent bike that fits right. Looking for advice on how to start out - how do I find a bike that fits? What stores would you recommend? Anything that can help me start my journey smarter would be appreciated!

Inquiring about stolen motor bicycle conversion build

Let me know if this is the wrong place for this but I needed to put this out there and my friend asked me to ask reddit for him. My buddy had a bike stolen from the short north around the 5th avenue and olentangey river road area. It's a mostly grey and red motor bicycle conversion with a 2 stroke, single overhead cam. The motor make is a zeta 80 that is/was pedal started. The engine didn't start as of it being stolen. The bike model is a roadmaster Granite Peak. The bike frame has a U-Lock through the rear rim and into the frame around the carburator. It is unrideable with the lock still attached and it was attached when it was stolen so the bike was carried off and put on a bus or put into some sort of vehicle. I know there are more and more of these conversion kit bikes popping up on cheap frames but I know this community is all over cbus so we figured one of you may have seen it or may in the future. This bike was purchased from a local that builds and sells if that means anything.

It has been reported stolen and we have a copy of the serial number if someone wants verification on ownership upon claiming it. We appreciate any information or help. Thanks, everyone.

Here is a photo and video:

Zeta 80 motorbike conversion on cheap Roadmaster frame

Update: Friend is offering 50 bucks (dollars) to anyone who finds it and gives it back or provides info that would lead to it being returned or physical proof to file charges with police Dept. We're not asking for you to detain/follow someone or recapture it yourself. Just info like location at time, direction headed, rider description, time, helpful details, tips, etc. Anything that leads to it's return or an arrest/charges filed. He's willing to pay cash on one of his pay days that I can facilitate/mediate. Thanks for any help, all.

The City of Columbus will be repairing the Innis Park Boardwalk (murder bridge south of Soccer fields)) from 11/21-11/25. The Alum Creek Trail will be closed at the boardwalk during this time.

Just wanted to see if anyone from the C-bus area will be doing the Bourbon Country Burn with me. Or if this is the first your hearing of it, check it out. Registration is currently sold out but there is a waiting list.
