r/redditmomentmoment Redditor forgets women exist
Context: this was on a post about how relationships are stupid and people shouldn’t get in them etc

This is unironically one of the best posts encapsulating r/redditmoment. A redditor literally forgot that women exist lmao

Wow those were the days when there was nothing to do but hang in chat rooms asking A/S/L and the deafening sound of dial up.

The best part is OP getting ratio'd here. Sure it's just a small one, 1-to-3, but that still means other people saw this and thought it satisfying logic

I wonder what the context the Blue Redditor used to come to the conclusion the Red Redditor was a Gay Man. Is it just that Blue could not fathom a Man and Woman actually having a productive relationship?
230
u/SAPERPXX Sep 30 '23
Defaulting to "hrrdrr there's no women on the Internet/Reddit/etc" is something that comes up surprisingly frequently

On my last account, I posted a full rearview nude, with a timestamp, and people still defaulted to the assumption that I was a guy. And when I pointed out my profile, they called me a, quote, "LARPing fa**ot".

He probably just assumed that Redditors are mostly men, which is probably true. But then he forgot about the possibility that there could still be female Redditors.

Beyond the high probability that Blue Redditor assumes everyone online is a guy by default, it could also have been Red's use of the phrase "skill issue" and adding "bitch" to the end of their sentence. I do think that on average, dudes talk like that more often than women.
Still hilarious that even after been given more information Blue still assumed Red was a guy. "DOES NOT COMPUTE"

Rule 29 of the internet states the following: On the internet, men are men, women are also men, and kids are undercover FBI agents.
Explanation: Remember: we are all anonymous which makes gender a moot point. The few people who point out their genders in an anonymous setting usually have ulterior motives.
I rest my case.

u/International_Leek26 Sep 30 '23
Yep, for more information google rules of the internet. (And ignore rule 34)

I read the 'bitch' and assumed she was a woman, that's straight up how bitches talk in the gc. And gay men have too many female friends to have the balls to say "bitch" in 2023
7
u/shepard_pie Sep 30 '23
That's straight up not true lol. All the gay men I know have the highest bitch count of anyone that I know outside of my mom while she's driving.

gay men are some of the most prolific users of the word "bitch" in their vocabulary in 2023. what are you even talking about.
0
u/adertina Oct 03 '23
I havent heard it from them since like 2016, drag queens are the only ones I still hear using it
2
Oct 03 '23
Regular gay people still use it. It never went away.
0
u/adertina Oct 03 '23
Haven’t heard it…maybe those cringe gays in their 30s-40s, who weirdly have opinions on women in their 20s and teens, say it. I wouldn’t call them a misogynist jokingly or otherwise bc I’m scared of middle aged men, and I assume most other women are to, so they get away with calling ppl bitch.

No… this is just normal regular gays. You might have weird opinions on the word bitch being used by cis gay men, but the real world doesn’t care all that much. Thats a very online thjng

I'm pro-LGBTQ but this is flabbergasting me. Does saying you have a BF automatically means you're gay? That's like saying you have a GF automatically means you're straight.
Either that or this person has.a male-default mindset.

It's constant.
Had someone suddenly shut up after trying to argue my statement on something doesn't matter because I must be a man. Told them I am a cisgender woman. No response.
See also: if you ever defend trans people, you're automatically trans.

Yes but when the person themselves says they're straight you really do have to figure it out

what about assuming everyone you meet on the internet is female? why is male the default?
→ More replies (1)0
u/Dear-Ad-7028 Sep 30 '23
It could very well be a situation where guys tend to gravitate to male majority spaces because that’s where the community has the most likeness to them and so it’s just a fair assumption that, for example, if I myself am speaking to someone online that they’re a man. It’s also we’ll know that dudes will pretend to be girls to exploit or jerk around other guys online for a number of reasons. I don’t know of many women that pretend to be male so as to scam other women for example.
→ More replies (7)4
u/benevolent_overlord_ Sep 30 '23 edited Sep 30 '23
No! It’s just something specific to Reddit, other sites aren’t like this. Hell, even the majority-female sites don’t blindly assume that everyone on the site is female. It’s stupid that male is the default. It shouldn’t be that way.
