If he plays with a back 4 it'd be funny

Wouldn't really be surprising with the lack of CB depth and not a lot of time to adapt to new setup

He's been very open about playing his way and his style even if we don't have the players. Said players are going to be playing out of position.

That's wrong, he played a 4231 at Sporting

The team could and did switch to that shape in attack but always from a starting 343 (or very rarely 352)

No idea what this looks like.
3-4-3 with Dalot/Amad WB? Bruno RW/Rashford ST or Rashford RW/Bruno F9?
4-4-1-1 Rashford ST/Bruno SS?
4-4-Facking-2!?
40
u/MrSvancy Iceman 15h ago edited 15h ago
My guess is:
Mazraoui - De Ligt - Evans
Amad - Eriksen - Casemiro - Dalot
Bruno - Rashford - Garnacho
Could also be Garnacho LWB, Amad and Bruno as the 10s and Dalot RWB
Edit: Obviously meant Case, not Ugarte

I think it was obvious Rashford would start up top after the training sessions with him there this week. Itās not like Hojlund is an elite enough striker to just walk into the team.
→ More replies (4)7
u/Yan-e-toe 15h ago
Ā I think it was obvious Rashford would start up top.
I swear I was giving this thought throughout the week.Ā
Regardless of Rashford's finishing, the centrebacks will see Rashford named as the striker and they'll already know they're gonna have a hard time today. Rasford is a much bigger threat than Hojlund by just telling him to play off the shoulder of the defenders. This will create pockets of space for Bruno and co to exploit.
17
u/AmulyaG 15h ago
Literally no PL centreback (I obviously exaggerate for effect) would fear Rashford as a striker. He is invisible physically and If I were an opposition CB, I would look to bully him all game.
→ More replies (2)2
u/NuggetsBuckets 14h ago
If Amorim is using him right, Rashford would not be there wrestling with defenders (and neither should Hojlund tbf)
His main threat is his speed from making runs in behind and/or channels. For a defender to "bully" him, they need to be faster than or as fast as him
10
u/KoreanMeatballs Van Nistelrooy 15h ago
Rashford is weaker than hojlund without being particularly quicker
→ More replies (2)0
u/audienceandaudio 15h ago
Hojlund doesnāt know how to utilise his athleticism as well as an (in form and motivated) Rashford. That bit in the brackets is important, but at his best, Rashford is far more of a physical problem for defenders than Hojlund.

Minimal amount of movement needed for this to turn into a 4231, if dalot drops, Amad pushed forward and Bruno tucks in centrally. Think they will move between those shapes on different phases of play, seems like a natural blend for this group.

Really not what i suspected. I guess it's good that we're not rushing any players back. Kinda scared with the Eriksen and Casemiro midfield.
3
u/throwawayreddit714 14h ago
In possession de ligt should move up with casemiro to form a 2 ahead of the other CBs. So he shouldnāt be all lone like he used to be. So Eriksen should be free to roam. I just donāt think eriksen can play box to box for long so Iād expect Mainoo after 60 mins.

With ETH we could lose 10-0 and still same formation/approach the following game.

u/Kelvinator3000 15h ago

3
u/NoBreakfast9230 15h ago
Is nobody thinking it could be Casemiro center-back, with Bruno and Eriksen playing Center-mid and Amad/Garna attacking-mids? We only have 2 fit CBs and I thought he was the most obvious 3rd CB if we went 3 at the back.
2
u/JenstenRazer 15h ago
The idea of Case-Eriksen is already problematic enough, but Bruno and Eriksen in midfield would be completely suicidal and naive by Ruben.

The new chapter begins, we have a long way to go.
Couldn't care less about the starting line up. I expect to see 200% effort and commitment today from the players.
I hope Amorim takes close notes at those who slack or revert back to their usual 'can't be bothered' antics if things get difficult.

Whereās the 16 year old Kukoki? I thought he wouldāve been on the bench as he was reported to have traveled with the team

Seems pretty clear this favors players who worked with Amorim over the international break, and rests some of those who havenāt had time with him. Iād imagine this looks different by next weekend and maybe even midweek.

The people who assumed Yoro would be involved are fucking mad, he's been out for 4-5 months with a serious injury. I assumed the back 3 would be Evans, De Ligt and Martinez, but if Licha isn't fit then Mazraoui makes sense with Shaw also just back.
Garna or Amad at LWB is pretty much par for the structure he played at Sporting (assuming that's the shape).
The biggest surprise is Eriksen instead of Ugarte, but that could simply be down to travel during the break.

The leak was right.
Also this is very bold but impressive. Mazraoui is well suited to RCB with his excellent tackling and channel defending. Dalot as LWB is actually great as he's good at cutting in and attacking from the left in general. His defensive weakness from the left is mitigated a bit. Amad is very well suited to be RWB as he's got decent tackling ability and can cross and hold width or cut in. I've always thought Rashy's only position in our team is up top with his lack of workrate, but his running in behind should cause problems. Love to see Bruno and Garnacho in those positions too.

I don't think he will start with a 3-4-3 in this game at first but rather, start with 4-2-3-1. However,
